Flanging; welding.-A flange is welded on to a pipe or tube by forming a collar on the end of the pipe and the flange with a recess to fit the collar and also with a boss on its other side, then placing the pipe and flange in a hole in a die and welding by a roller or rollers which press against the bore of the pipe and against the end of the collar. The pipe is formed, preferably by upsetting, with a collar i<2> having an inclined outer face i<4> and an inclined inner face i<3>, and is placed loosely in a slightly shallower recess j<3> in a flange j which has a tapered boss j<4> to fit in the flared end a<3> of the die a. Welding is performed by a roller or rollers d mounted on an inclined axis e on an adapter which is secured to a rotating face-plate g. The face-plate and die are moved relatively towards each other during operation.
