Given the arrangement of the pluggable connectors 18a, 20a, 22a, 24a of the electrical power connection device 18,20 and the communication signal connection device(s) 22, 24, no manual connection between the electrical power connectors 1 8a, 20a or data communication signal connectors 22a, 24a is required. The pluggable connectors iSa, 20a, 22a, 24a of the electrical power connection device 18,20 and the communication signal connection device(s) 22, 24 are aligned and fixed in place such that the first member 14 and electronic display 12 are simply mounted to, or "docked", with the second member 16 to create the electrical power connection and the data communication signal connection.
As illustrated in figures 1 to 3, 6 and 7, the electrical power connection device 20 of the second member 16 has an electrical power cable 20b that runs inside the frame member 16a. The electrical power cable 20b exits the frame member 1 6a at a bottom portion thereof and has a pluggable connector 20c. The pluggable connector 20c may be plugged into a source of electrical power, such as a battery (not illustrated).
Similarly, the communication signal connection device 24 of the second member 16 has a communication cable 24b that runs inside the frame member 1 6b. The communication cable 24b exits the frame member 1 6b at a bottom portion thereof and has a pluggable connector 24c. The pluggable connector 24c may be plugged into communication signal source, such as a DVD player, a personal computer, a portable computer, a laptop, a tablet, an audio player, a digital media player, or the like (not illustrated).
The second member 16 includes a source of electrical power (not illustrated), such as a battery, or the like. The source of electrical power provides power to the electronic display 12 when the first member 12 and the second member 16 are connected.
The second member 16 also includes a communication signal source, such as a DVD player, a personal computer, a portable computer, a laptop, a tablet, an audio player, a digital media player, or the like (not illustrated).
The second member 16 may also include one or more audio speakers, inverters and amplifiers (not illustrated) attached thereto.
In the embodiment illustrated and described here, the second member 16 is wearable by a user. As illustrated in figures 1, 2, 3 and 6, the frame members 16a and 16b are configured to be wearable by a user. The frame members include a yoke 1 6c, the yoke 1 6d being configured to be attachable to the wearer's shoulders. The yoke 16c is attached to the frame members 16a, 16b. As illustrated, the frame members 16a, 16b are configured such that, in use, the frame members 16a, 16b extend from above a wearer's head towards a wearer's torso.
The frame members 16a, 16b extend from above the wearer's head, towards the wearer's shoulders, where the yoke 16c is attached, and then towards a torso support (not illustrated), the torso support being configured to extend, in use, around the wearer's torso. The yoke 16c and the torso support are configured to bear the weight of the first member 14 and electronic display 12 and second member 14. The torso support is typically a belt, the belt is, in use, worn by the wearer of the second member 16. The belt may house the battery, communication signal sources, speakers, amplifiers etc. In use, the apparatus 10 is worn by a user. Typically, the apparatus 10 may initially be in the configuration illustrated in figure 6, where the first member 14 and electronic display 12 are not mounted to the second member 16. The wearer then dons the second member 16, in the manner described above. Once the second member 16 is on the wearer, the belt and yoke are adjusted to ensure a secure and comfortable fit. The pluggable connectors 20c and 24c of the electrical power connection device 20 and communication signal connection device 24 are then connected to the battery and communication signal sources in the belt.
The first member 14 and electronic display 12 are then mounted to the second member 16, in the manner described above, to make the power connections and the communication connections, as described above.
The wearer of the apparatus 10 is then free to walk around with the apparatus 10 securely and comfortably attached.
Given that the first member 14 of the apparatus 10 is detachably mountable to the second member 16 of the apparatus 10, the apparatus of the present invention allows the electronic display 12 to be easily removed from the second member 16. This is useful when, for example, the electronic display 12 malfunctions or there is a problem in communicating the data signals to the electronic display 12. If the electronic display 12 malfunctions the first member 14 and electronic display 12 are simply detached from the second member 16 and a new first member 14 and electronic display 12 is attached to the second member 16. In the embodiment where the second member 16 is worn by an individual, this means that the whole apparatus 10 (i.e. belt, frame members 1 6a, 1 6b etc.) does not need to be taken off the wearer. The new first member 14 and electronic display 12 is simply mounted to the second member 16 and connected to the power supply and communication signal source.
Modifications and improvements may be made to the above without departing from the scope of the present invention.
For example, although the second member 16 has been illustrated and described above as being a frame member which is worn by a wearer, it should be appreciated that the second member 16 may be a floor mounted member. The second member may be a free-standing, floor mounted member. In this arrangement, the second member may situated on a surface, for example, a floor, or the like, and the first member and electronic display, when attached, is mounted to the second member, as described above. In this arrangement, the second member may be connected to a mains source of power. However, the floor mounted member in this arrangement may additionally or alternatively include one or more portable power sources, such as batteries, or the like.
Also, although the apparatus 10 has been illustrated and described above as having a source of electrical power and a source of communication signals being located in the second member, it should be appreciated that the first member 14 and/or the electronic display 12 may include one of, or both, a source of electrical power and a source of communication signals.
In this arrangement, the second member 16 may solely provide support to the first member and the electronic display 12, when attached.
Furthermore, although not illustrated or described above, it should be appreciated that the first member 14 may be rotatable relative to the second member 16. Similarly, the first member 14 may be extendable relative to the second member 16. The first member may be telescopically extendable with respect to the second member 16.
