Description

Easy Access Dog Waterproof Sheet Coat.
This invention relates to rain protection for a dog.
Dogs love their walks but most dogs do not like the rain.
Dog rain coats do offer some protection.
However, when the elements are unpredictable & you do not have your dogs rain coat out with you, not to mention the situations when there is no immediate shelter. To overcome these obstacles, the present invention proposes a convenient way to carry and store a dogs rain sheet within the dogs collar, thus being available when needed.
The compartment storing the waterproof sheet jacket would preferably be incorporated within the layers of the dogs collar at the rear neck side & covered out of sight when it is not being used The storage compartment encompassing the waterproof sheet jacket may also be accessed from the shoulder side of the dog collaG thus deploying the rain protector in a lateral direction.
An individual storage compartment or bag that encompasses a waterproof sheet jacket may be supplied as a stand alone part that can be attached &detached to most conventional dog collars.
There are two preferablytwo lead attachments located on this dogs collar. The main lead attachment On the outside of the collar would be favoured when the rain protector is not required, but must give way to allow access to the rear compartment. The second lead attachment is located within the rear neck compartment itself and would be favoured when the rain protector is in use.
The lead attachment may be within an additional strap that is attached to the inside (proximal) of the dogs collar in the central neck position of the collar. This will be attached to the collar in a way which allows the lead attachment (ring) to rotate behind the collar & reside at the opposite axis (top or bottom) of the dogs collar. Thus, providing access to the water proof sheet whilst retaining its functional purpose therefore a second lead attachment would not be necessary.
The water proof rain sheet is preferably deployed for use & retracted easily by using the aid of elastic string fed through the parameter hem of the water proof sheet.
The water proof rain sheet may be deployed for use & retracted for storage manually without the additional aids.
The design of the waterproof sheet may match the pattern and colour of the collar.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 is a rear view of the water proof sheet extended from a designated section within the neck side of collar. The jacket is deployed in the caudal direction from the residing position within the on board compartment. Neck side being just above the withers Figure 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view with parts broken away illustrating how the collar will accommodate the storage compartment within the membrane of collar layers, whilst remaining inconspicuous.

Figure 24 is a diagrammatic illustration of an alternative storage method for the waterproof sheet jacket. The compartment bag arrow 27. It being understood that the drawing of the dog head is for illustration purposes only & form no part of the claimed design.
Figure 25 is a cross sectional perspective view of the storage compartment bag arrow 27 FIG 24, illustrating the compartment as an individual part that can be attached to the collar by hook & loop fasteners arrows 28 & 29.
Figure 26 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the alternative basic waterproof arrow 31, emergingfrom the openingarrow 30, of the independentstorage compartment bagarrow 27.
In figure 1, a standard dog collar arrow 1 with fastening buckle! clasp arrow 18 located on the shoulder side of the dog. The dog collar arrow 1, has two or more layers arrows 1 being the outer layer & arrow 3 being the inner layer. As preferred in my design, the outer layer of the dog collar arrow 1, will incorporated a section, cut into the rear middle neck side of collar 1 & will act as the storage compartment arrow 2, for the waterproof sheet jacket arrow 9 to reside, & in which will be supported between inner layer 3 & the circumference of the compartment being that of outer layer 1, which will be enclosed and out of sight when not in use by way of cover flap material arrow 4.
Additional cushioning could be added for the dogs comfort. Figure 24-26 illustrates an alternative method to storing & accessing a waterproof jacket as to the incorporated one just described. Arrow 27 is an independent storage compartment that can be mounted onto most standard collars & harnesses by using the preferred hook & loop fasteners arrows 28 & 29. The waterproof arrow 31, is accessed by the opening arrow 30, of the compartment 27. As the compartment 27, is independent from the dogs collar, it can be attached & detached at any given time.
The compartment cover arrow 4, is fixed to the dogs collar on one side axis. Access cover flap arrow 4, by detaching hook & loop 7 from 8. Cover flap 4 will now reside against the dogs neck whilst adding further protection from the rain. Alternative fastening methods could be used throughout, such as the snap clasps / poppers illustrated in FIG 17 arrows 24 & 25, or the zipper illustrated in FIG 16 arrow 23.
The waterproof jacket arrow 9 is secured within the compartment arrow 2, with two small popper& straps arrow 6, located on the neck side waterproof sheet Jacket and will fasten onto the larger of the elastic rings located by arrow 15, fixed within the compartment arrow 2.
The Snap clasps & material rings are the preferred method for attaching & detaching the waterproof sheet but other methods may be used instead such as hook & loop etc. The waterproof jacket 9, will deploy & retract easier using the aid of the elastic string arrow 12, which passes through the hem of three parameter sides of the jacket 9, & each end of the elastic string 12, will emerge from either side of the posterior end of arrow 9, & connect through the toggles arrow 11. The toggles will further aid in retracting the waterproof sheet 9 & will hold in the contained storing position within the compartment arrow 2.
When the waterproof jacket arrow 9, is deployed & in position over the dogs back, it will need to be secured using the two ties arrow 3 -which are fixed onto both lateral sides of the waterproof jacket arrow 9, and should be connected together at the medial point of the dogs chest.
There is the option to further secure the posterior end of the waterproof jacket 9, by way of attaching each elastic string arrow 12, into the small elastic rings arrow 16 located on the same lateral side. Each elastic string must pass via the inside of the dogs thigh as illustrated in FIG 22. This would be advisa ble to help prevent the wind lifting the rea rend of the waterproof jacket.
There are two lead attachments on the preferred design. The main lead attachment arrow 5, is favoured when the waterproof jacket arrow 9, is not in use. The additional lead ring arrow 17, is favoured when the waterproof jacket arrow 9, is in use. lead attachment 17, is located within compartment arrow 2, & visible once the waterproof jacket arrow 9, is deployed for use, or removed. Arrow 5 -The main lead ring, if left in its central position would restrict access to compartment 2, & prohibit the deployment of the waterproof arrow 9.
lead attachment arrow 5, can be reposition by sliding away from compartment 2 of the rear central position of the dogs collar, to the side of the collar. This movement is limited by confining the lead attachment within a tab section arrow 21 which is attached to the inside of the dogs collar arrow 3, as demonstrated in FIG 12. Arrow 22 tab section, is of similar purpose as of arrow 21, this too secures the lead attachment 17, to the inside compartment 2, whilst facilitating the dorsal & ventral movement required of lead attachment 17.
Figure 19 & 20, illustrate an alternative lead attachment method. This option requires the one lead attachment arrow 5 FIGURE 19 & 20. The lead attachment 5, is encompassed within an additional strap arrow 26, which extends slightly past the collar in the caudal direction, with one end of the strap 26, attached to the inside layer 3 at top of the collar & the other end of the strap 26, is attached to the inside layer 3 at the base of the collar. This enables the lead attachment to swing in a reverse rotational direction behind the dogs collar & reside at the opposite side being top or base of collar, thus giving accessible entry to compartment 2 via cover 4 when required.
The neck size of the dogs collar can be easily adjusted slightly to suit the size of the dogs by feeding the excess collar strap through size clasp 19. The excess feed will be held against the dogs collar by hook & loop fastener arrow 14.
