Abstract

A device that is capable of recognising a person, retrieving information regarding said recognised person and relaying all or part of the information to the user. The device is for use with a mental cognitive condition such as alzheimers, and provides the user with information to whether the person that is recognised is a friend, relative or a carer. Preferably the device uses a camera 225 which is connected or integral to the device and face recognition software to identify a person; information regarding the person is partly or wholly relayed to the user by audio means such as an ear piece 255 or coded vibration and/or visual means such as a screen or display which may be embedded into the lens of glasses 280, 285. The device may be in the form of a mobile communications device, and information may be relayed to the device via the internet. The device may be worn or carried by the user, and may allow the user to sound and/or raise an alarm.

Description

DEVICE
The present invention relates to a device and to a method of using same. The present invention also relates to the use of said device and/or said method. In particular, the present invention relates to a device and/or method and/or use that is of benefit to persons having visual and/or cognitive impairments.
People who suffer from visual and/or cognitive impairments can become agitated when they do not see and/or recognise a person who is trying to talk to them or help them. This can also be hurtful for the person if that person is, for example, a close relation. So as to avoid such situations, it is then not uncommon for people to start to distance themselves from people who suffer from visual and/or cognitive impairments.
The present invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
In a broad aspect, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user.
In one aspect, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein said device comprises computer implemented software; wherein said information about said person has been generated by said user or by someone who knows said user; wherein said information about said person includes information if said person is a friend or a relative or if said person is a carer for said user.
In a broad aspect, the present invention also provides a method of aiding a user by relaying information to said user about a person; said method comprising using the device according to the present invention to recognise said person and to retrieve information regarding said recognised person and to relay part or all of said information to said user.
In a broad aspect, the present invention also provides a method of alleviating concern about a person to a user by relaying information to said user about said person; said method comprising using the device according to the present invention to recognise said person and to retrieve information regarding said recognised person and to relay part or all of said information to said user.
In a broad aspect, the present invention also provides a method of relaying information to a user about a person; said method comprising using the device according to the present invention to recognise said person and to retrieve information regarding said recognised person and to relay part or all of said information to said user.
In a broad aspect, the present invention also provides a device according to the present invention for use in aiding a user suffering from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
The present invention has a number of benefits. For example, it aids (helps) a user by relaying information to said user about a person. By way of further example, it alleviates concern about a person to a user. By way of further example, it relays useful information to a user about a person.
The present invention is particularly useful for people who suffer from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
The present invention is particularly useful for people who suffer from dementia.
According to the Oxford Dictionaries, dementia is defined as "a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning".

According to MedicineNet, Alzheimer's disease is "a progressive degenerative disease of the brain that leads to dementia. On a cellular level, Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the finding of unusual helical protein filaments in nerve cells of the brain. These twisted n filaments are called neurofibrillary tangles. In the brain, Alzheimer's disease involves degeneration of the cortical regions, especially the frontal and temporal lobes" (see http:ttwwwxnedterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=221 3).
According to Alz.org, Alzheimer's disease can be classified as having the following seven progressive stages: Stage 1: No impairment (normal function) -The person does not experience any memory problems. An interview with a medical professional does not show any evidence of symptoms of dementia.
Stage 2: Very mild cognitive decline (may be normal age-related changes or earliest signs of Alzheimer's disease) -The person may feel as if he or she is having memory lapses -forgetting familiar words or the location of everyday objects. But no symptoms of dementia can be detected during a medical examination or by friends, family or co-workers Stage 3: Mild cognitive decline (early-stage Alzheimer's can be diagnosed in some, but not all, individuals with these symptoms) -Friends, family or co-workers begin to notice difficulties. During a detailed medical interview, doctors may be able to detect problems in memory or concentration. Common stage 3 difficulties include: * Noticeable problems coming up with the right word or name * Trouble remembering names when introduced to new people * Having noticeably greater difficulty performing tasks in social or work settings Forgetting material that one has just read * Losing or misplacing a valuable object * Increasing trouble with planning or organizing Stage 4: Moderate cognitive decline (Mild or early-stage Alzheimer's disease) -At this point, a careful medical interview should be able to detect clear-cut symptoms in several areas: * Forgetfulness of recent events * Impaired ability to perform challenging mental arithmetic -for example, counting backward from 100 by 7s * Greater difficulty performing complex tasks, such as planning dinner for guests, paying bills or managing finances * Forgetfulness about one's own personal history * Becoming moody or withdrawn, especially in socially or mentally challenging situations Stage 5: Moderately severe cognitive decline (Moderate or mid-stage Alzheimer's disease) -Gaps in memory and thinking are noticeable, and individuals begin to need help with day-to-day activities. At this stage, those with Alzheimer's may: * Be unable to recall their own address or telephone number or the high school or college from which they graduated * Become confused about where they are or what day it is * Have trouble with less challenging mental arithmetic; such as counting backward from 40 by subtracting 4s or from 20 by 2s * Need help choosing proper clothing for the season or the occasion * Still remember significant details about themselves and their family * Still require no assistance with eating or using the toilet Stage 6: Severe cognitive decline (Moderately severe or mid-stage Alzheimer's disease) -Memory continues to worsen, personality changes may take place and individuals need extensive help with daily activities. At this stage, individuals may: * Lose awareness of recent experiences as well as of their surroundings * Remember their own name but have difficulty with their personal history * Distinguish familiar and unfamiliar faces but have trouble remembering the name of a spouse or caregiver * Need help dressing properly and may, without supervision, make mistakes such as putting pajamas over daytime clothes or shoes on the wrong feet * Experience major changes in sleep patterns -sleeping during the day and becoming restless at night * Need help handling details of toileting (for example, flushing the toilet, wiping or disposing of tissue properly) * Have increasingly frequent trouble controlling their bladder or bowels * Experience major personality and behavioral changes, including suspiciousness and delusions (such as believing that their caregiver is an impostor)or compulsive, repetitive behavior like hand-wringing or tissue shredding * Tend to wander or become lost Stage 7: Very severe cognitive decline (Severe or late-stage Alzheimer's disease) -In the final stage of this disease, individuals lose the ability to respond to their environment, to carry on a conversation and, eventually, to control movement.
They may still say words or phrases. At this stage, individuals need help with much of their daily personal care, including eating or using the toilet. They may also lose the ability to smile, to sit without support and to hold their heads up. Reflexes become abnormal. Muscles grow rigid. Swallowing impaired.

For example, according to Frisoni eta/(2010) Nat Rev Neurol vol 6 pages 67-77: "Clinical and neuropathological studies have greatly advanced our knowledge of the pathophysiology and progression of Alzheimer disease (AD). This disease is associated with progressive accumulation of abnormal proteins (amyloid-13 [A] and hyperphosphorylated tau) in the brain, which leads to progressive synaptic, neuronal and axonal damage. Neurobiological changes occur years before symptoms appear, with a stereotypical pattern of early medial temporal lobe (entorhinal cortex and hippocampus) involvement, followed by progressive neocortical damage. The delay in emergence of the cognitive correlates of these changes suggests that the toxic effects of tau and/or A13 progressively erode brain reserve' until a clinical threshold is surpassed and amnestic symptoms develop. For example, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI)-memory disturbance in the absence of dementia-is followed by more-widespread cognitive deficits in multiple domains until a disability threshold is reached and traditional diagnostic criteria for probable AD are fulfilled. In their paper, Frisoni et at (thid) propose a methodology for the realy detection of Alzheimer's disease, By way of example, the Abstract of Frisoni eta! (ibid) reads as follows: Structural imaging based on magnetic resonance is an integral part of the clinical assessment of patients with suspected Alzheimer dementia. Prospective data on the natural history of change in structural markers from preclinical to overt stages of Alzheimer disease are radically changing how the disease is conceptualized, and will influence its future diagnosis and treatment. Atrophy of medial temporal structures is now considered to be a valid diagnostic marker at the mild cognitive impairment stage. Structural imaging is also included in diagnostic criteria for the most prevalent non-Alzheimer dementias, reflecting its value in differential diagnosis. In addition, rates of whole-brain and hippocampal atrophy are sensitive markers of neurodegeneration, and are increasingly used as outcome measures in trials of potentially disease-modifying therapies. Large multicenter studies are currently investigating the value of other imaging and nonimaging markers as adjuncts to clinical assessment in diagnosis and monitoring of progression. The utility of structural imaging and other markers will be increased by standardization of acquisition and analysis methods, and by development of robust algorithms for automated assessment." At the 2012 AAJG, Dr Giovanni Frisoni said: "The availability of a standard and shared protocol for hippocampal volumetry measured on magnetic resonance images provides researchers with an international standard of measurement that will help validate the new Alzheimer's diagnostic criteria and encourage their use in clinical settings, enable comparisons of the effect of disease modifying drugs, and represent the gold standard for automated segmentation algorithms".

However, none of these journalist reports provides any technical information about how the help would be delivered and/or in what form it would be delivered.
As indicated above, the present invention concerns a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user.
In a preferred aspect, said device comprises computer implemented software. The computer implemented software may be in the form of one or more software applications (sometimes referred to as app(s). The computer implemented software may be included in the device or at least a part thereof may be delivered via the internet.
In a preferred aspect, said information about said person has been generated by said user or by someone who knows said user. This aspect is particularly advantageous as the information can be tailored to suit the needs of the user. For example, the user may just need help in knowing if the person is a friend or a relative. For example, the user may just need help in knowing if said person can be trusted or not. For example, the user may just need help in knowing if said person is a carer for said user. In a preferred aspect, said information about said person includes the name of said person.

In a preferred aspect, when said information about said person is repeated when it is relayed to said user. This is of particular benefit if the user suffers from a cognitive impairment, such as dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease. This may be important when a user is met by a person and that person leaves the room and returns again. Here, the user may benefit from a repeat of the information.
The information about said person can be stored on said device, even temporarily. The information may be relayed to said device, such as via the interent.
In a preferred aspect, said person is recognised by a camera operably connected to said device. In one aspect, the camera is integral with said device. However, for some embodiments, the camera may be remote from said device. By way of example, if the device is a device that is to be hand held and/or to be kept in a pocket, then the camera may be mounted on or near to the users face, such as over an ear or on the head by means of a headband or attached to a hat. For some embodiments, there may be two or more cameras pointing in different directions.
In a preferred aspect, said person is recognised by said device by use of facial recognition software.
The camera can be operated by the user and/or it can be automatically turned on when a person is on front of or near to the user. If the camera is automatically turned on when a person is on front of or near to the user, then preferably the device further comprises a sensor for detecting a person near to said user.
In a preferred aspect, said information about said person is relayed to said user by visual means and/or audio means and/or electrical means and/or mechanical means and/or physical means. Examples of relaying information may be audio, preferably with the user having an ear piece. Examples of relaying information may be visual, preferably with the user seeing text on a screen. Examples of relaying information may be electrical, preferably with the user receiving a coded electrical stimulus to a part of the body, such as the leg or arm. Examples of relaying information may be physical, preferably with the user receiving a coded vibration to a part of the body, such as the leg or arm. Examples of relaying information may be a combination of one or more of visual means and/or audio means and/or electrical means and/or mechanical means and/or physical means. Examples of relaying information may be at least using visual means and/or audio means. In one aspect, examples of relaying information are at least using visual means and audio means.
In a preferred aspect, said device is a portable device capable of being worn or carried by said user. In a preferred aspect, said device comprises a mobile communications device.
For some embodiment, preferably, the device is a mobile phone In a preferred aspect, said device uses one or more software applications (sometimes referred to as app(s)) for recognising said person and/or retrieving information about said person andlor relaying said information about said person to said user.
In a preferred aspect, said device uses one or more software applications (sometimes referred to as app(s)) for at least two or more of: recognising said person and/or retrieving information about said person and/or relaying said information about said person to said user.
In a preferred aspect, said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment. The present invention is of particular help to a user suffering from dementia.
Examples of dementia include any one or more of Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, semantic dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies. In a preferred aspect, said user suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
If the person is not recognised by the device andlor there is no available information regarding that person, then the device may provide a prompt for appropriate information to be inputted at a suitable time.
The device may have the option of allowing the user to convey to a person that he/she needs help.
The device may have the option of allowing the user to convey to a person that he/she has a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
The device may have the option of allowing the user to sound and/or to raise an alarm.

In a preferred aspect, the device comprises a camera and utilises camera recognition software to recognise a person. Examples of camera recognition software may be found in the scientific literature and in the patent literature. Examples of camera recognition software include OpenBR, Sony's Picture Motion Browser, Google's Picassa and Identix's Facelt.
In one aspect, at least part of the camera recognition software is operably stored in the device. In one aspect, all of the camera recognition software is operably stored in the device. If all of the camera recognition software is operably stored on the device, then the device does not have to rely on additional relaying of software, such as over the internet.
Also, if all of the camera recognition software is stored on the device, then this aspect lends itself for simplicity in the design of the device and also means that the user does not need to connected to, say, the internet -thereby giving the user total flexibility of use. The camera recognition software may be sent to the device by means of wireless connectivity. In one preferred aspect, the device is "dockable" with a computer -such as by means of a docking port or a connecting lead -and camera recognition software can be transferred from the computer to the device. This latter aspect also allows for simplicity of design and means that the user does not have to have Internet connectivity to populate or update the device with camera recognition software.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein the device comprises a camera; wherein said device utilises camera recognition software to recognise the person.

Accordingly, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein the device comprises a camera; wherein said device utilises camera recognition software to recognise the person; wherein all of the camera recognition software is operably stored in the device.
Information associated with the person may be stored on the device and/or may be accessible remotely by said device, such as via the internet. In one preferred aspect, at least some of the information associated with the person is stored on the device. In one preferred aspect, all of the information associated with the person is stored on the device. If all of the information associated with the person is stored on the device, then the device does not have to rely on additional relaying of information, such as over the internet. Also, if all of the information associated with the person is stored on the device, then this aspect lends itself for simplicity in the design of the device and also means that the user does not need to connected to, say, the internet -thereby giving the user total flexibility of use. The information; which may be additional information, about that person may be sent to the device by means of wireless connectivity. In one preferred aspect, the device is "dockable" with a computer -such as by means of a docking port or a connecting lead -and information can be transferred from the computer to the device. This latter aspect also allows for simplicity of design and means that the user does not have to have internet connectivity to populate or update the device with information.

As indicated herein, information regarding the person may be relayed to the user by any suitable means. Examples of such means include by audio means, such as by audio signals or the spoken word or combinations thereof; visual means, such as by text or symbols or combinations thereof; physical means such as by vibration or electrical stimulus or combinations thereof; and any combinations thereof. In one aspect, information regarding the person may be relayed to the user by audio means and/or visual means. In one aspect, information regarding the person may be relayed to the user by at least audio means. In one aspect, the information is relayed to the user via a speaker and/or an ear piece. The speaker may be integral with said device or the speaker may be operably connected to said device -such as by a lead and/or by means of wireless connectivity. In one aspect, the information is relayed to the user via an ear piece. The ear piece may be integral with said device or the ear piece may be operably connected to said device -such as by a lead and/or by means of wireless connectivity. For simplicity of design, the ear piece may be operably connected to said device by a lead.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user: wherein information regarding the person is relayed to the user by at least audio means.
In certain preferred aspects, the present invention provides a device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein the device comprises a camera; wherein said device utilises camera recognition software to recognise the person; wherein at least some of the information associated with the person is stored on the device, preferably wherein all of the information associated with the person is stored on the device.

The present invention will now be described by way of Examples only in which reference to the accompanying Figures: Figure 1 is a representation of a device according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a representation of a user with the device of the present invention; Figure 3 is a representation of another device according to the present invention; and Figure 4 is a representation of another device according to the present invention.
Referring to Figure 1, the device (1) comprises a body (5) that houses a screen (15). The body also houses computer hardware (not shown) and computer software (not shown) for the operation of the device (1). The screen (15) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of text. The device (1) comprises a camera (25) operably connected to the body (5) by means of a lead (35) that is inserted into a pod (not shown) at a location (45) on the body (5). The camera (25) can be operated by the user and/or it can be automatically turned on when a person is on front of or near to the user by means of a sensor (not shown). The device (1) comprises an ear piece (55) operably connected to the body (5) by means of a lead (65) that is inserted into a port (not shown) at a location (75) on the body (5). The ear piece (55) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of spoken word or by audio signals.
Referring to Figure 2, a user (101) is facing a person (not shown). The user (101) is carrying the device (5) in a pocket (not shown) or in his/her hand (not shown) on his/her body such as by means of a belt (not shown). The user (101) has the camera (25) positioned above the ear (105). The camera (25) relays images of the person to the device (1) by means of the lead (35). The user (101) has the ear piece (55) positioned in the ear (105). Information regarding the person is relayed to the user (101) via the ear piece (55) by means of the lead (65). Information regarding the person may also be relayed to the user (101) via the screen (15) of the device (1). In the alternative and/or in addition the camera (25) may be integral with the device. In the alternative and/or in addition, the camera (25) may be operably connected to said device (1) by use of signal transmission techniques, such as wift, BluetoothTM etc. In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (55) may be integral with the device, In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (55) may be operably connected to said device (1) by use of signal transmission techniques, such as wifi, BluetoothTM etc. In use, the device (1) relays information to the user (101) about a person (not shown). The device (1) is capable of recognising the person by means of the camera (25). The device (101) is capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person and then relaying part or all of said information to said user via the ear piece (55) and/or the screen (15) Information regarding the person that is r&ayed to the user may be short pieces of information, such as: Friend -name is Chris Robinson -here to help you" or information such as "Relative -your sister -her name is Lizzie Mae". The device may be capable of relaying information -such as spoken word -to the person and/or prompting the user to speak to the person.
Referring to Figure 3, the device (100) comprises a body (105) that houses computer hardware (not shown) and computer software (not shown) for the operation of the device (100). The device (100) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of audio signals or spoken word. The device (100) comprises a camera (125) integrally connected to said body (105) at position (145).
Alternatively, the camera (125) may be operably connected to the body (105) by means of a lead (not shown) that may be inserted into a port (not shown) at a location (145) on the body (105). The camera (125) can be operated by the user and/or it can be automatically turned on when a person is on front of or near to the user by means of a sensor (not shown). The device (100) comprises an ear piece (155) operably connected to the body (105) by means of a lead (165) that is inserted into a port (not shown) at a location (175) on the body (105).
The ear piece (155) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of spoken word or by audio signals. The body (105) has a surface (115) configured to snuggly fit around a user's ear (not shown) so that the camera (125) is pointing in front of or-in some instances -behind the user. In some embodiments, the user may have two devices (100) one on one ear pointing in one direction; and another on the other ear pointing in the other direction. In the alternative and/or in addition the camera (125) may be operably connected to said device (100) by use of signal transmission techniques, such as wifi, BluetoothTM etc. In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (155) may be integral with the device. In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (155) may be operably connected to said device (100) by use of signat transmission techniques, such as wifi, BluetoothTM etc. In use, the device (100) relays information to the user (not shown) about a person (not shown). The device (100) is capable of recognising the person by means of the camera (125). The device (100) is capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person and then relaying part or all of said information to said user via the ear piece (155).
Again, information regarding the person that is relayed to the user may be short pieces of information, such as: Friend -name is Rodney Stewart -here to help you" or information such as Relative -your sister -her name is Maggie May". The device may be capable of relaying information -such as spoken word -to the person and/or prompting the user to speak to the person.
Referring to Figure 4, the device (200) is similar to a pair of spectacles. The device comprises two lenses (280, 285) retained in place by structure components (202, 203 and 290). The device comprises a body (205) that houses computer hardware (not shown) and computer software (not shown) for the operation of the device (200). The device (200) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of audio signals or spoken word. The device (200) comprises a camera (225) integrally connected to said body (125) at position (245). Alternatively, the camera (225) may be operably connected to the body (205) by means of a lead (not shown) that may be inserted into a port (not shown) at a location (245) on the body (205). The camera (225) can be operated by the user and/or it can be automatically turned on when a person is on front of or near to the user by means of a sensor (not shown). The device (200) comprises an ear piece (255) operably connected to the body (205) by means of a lead (265) that is inserted into a port (not shown) at a location (275) on the structural component (202) of the device (200) that in turn is operably connected to the body (205) such as by means of wires (not shown) inside the frame of the structural component (202). The ear piece (255) is capable of conveying information to a user about a person facing or near to them, such as by use of spoken word or by audio signals. The body (205) is configured to snuggly fit around a user's ears (not shown) so that the camera (225) is pointing in front of the user. In some embodiments, the device (200) may have an additional camera (not shown) located on or near to structural component (203) wherein that other camera (not shown) is operably linked to said body (205) and wherein said other camera can point in the same or different ditection (such as behind the user) as the direction of camera (225). In the alternative and/or in addition the camera (225) may be operably connected to said device (200) by use of signal transmission techniques, such as witi, Bluetooth etc. In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (255) may be integral with the device. In the alternative and/or in addition the ear piece (255) may be operably connected to said device (200) by use of signal transmission techniques, such as wifi, BluetoothlM etc. In use, the device (200) relays information to the user (not shown) about a person (not shown). The device (200) is capable of recognising the person by means of the camera (125). The device (200) is capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person and then relaying part or all of said information to said user via the ear piece (255).
In some embodiments, in addition or in the alternative the device (200) is capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person and then relaying part or all of said information to said user via one or more screens (not shown), such as screen(s) embedded in one or both of the lenses (280, 285). Again, information regarding the person that is relayed to the user may be short pieces of information, such as: "Friend -name is James Morrison -here to help you" or information such as "Relative -your sister -her name is Maggie Mcgill". The device may be capable of relaying information -such as spoken word -to the person and/or prompting the user to speak to the person.
Although the invention has been described above with respect to a preferred embodiment and various modifications thereof, it is apparent that the forgoing and other changes in form and detail may be made therein by one skilled in the art while still remaining within the spirit and scope of the invention.

Claims (22)

  1. CLAIMS1. A device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein said device comprises computer implemented software; wherein said information about said person has been generated by said user or by someone who knows said user; wherein said information about said person includes information if said person is a friend or a relative or if said person is a carer for said user; wherein said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
  2. 2. A device according to claim 1 wherein said person is recognised by said device by use of a camera operably connected to said device.
  3. 3. A device according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein said device is a portable device capable of being worn or carried by said user.
  4. 4. A device according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said device uses one or more software applications (sometimes referred to as app(s)) for recognising said person and/or retrieving information about said person and/or relaying said information about said person to said user.
  5. 5. A method of aiding a user by relaying information to said user about a person; said method comprising using the device according to any of claims I to 4 to recognise said person and to retrieve information regarding said recognised person and to relay part or all of said information to said user; wherein said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
  6. 6. A method of alleviating concern about a person to a user by relaying information to said user about said person; said method comprising using the device according to any of claims 1 to 4 to recognise said person and to retrieve information regarding said recognised person and to relay part or all of said information to said user; wherein said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
  7. 7. A method according any one of claims 5 to 6 wherein said user suffers from dementia.
  8. 8. A method according any one of claims 5 to 7 wherein said user suffers from any one or more of Alzheimers disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, semantic dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies.
  9. 9. A method according any one of claims 5 to 8 wherein said user suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
  10. 10. A device according to any of claims 1 to 4 for use in aiding a user suffering from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment.
  11. 11. A device according to claim 10 wherein said user suffers from dementia.
  12. 12. A device according to claim 10 or claim 11 wherein said user suffers from any one or more of Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, semantic dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies.
  13. 13. A device according to any one of claims 10 to 12 wherein said user suffers from Alzheimers disease.
  14. 14. A device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein said device comprises computer implemented software; wherein said information about said person has been generated by said user or by someone who knows said user; wherein said information about said person includes information if said person is a friend or a relative or if said person is a carer for said user; wherein said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment; wherein said information is relayed to said user by audio and/or by visual means; wherein the user has Alzheimer's disease and is suffering from being at least at stage 5 of said disease wherein said stage is as defined herein according to Alz.org.
  15. 15. A device for relaying information to a user; said device capable of recognising a person; said device capable of retrieving information regarding said recognised person; said device capable of relaying part or all of said information to said user; wherein said device comprises computer implemented software; wherein said information about said person has been generated by said user or by someone who knows said user; wherein said information about said person includes information if said person is a friend or a relative or if said person is a carer for said user; wherein said user suffers from a visual impairment and/or a cognitive impairment; wherein said information is relayed to said user by audio and/or by visual means; wherein the user has Alzheimer's disease and is suffering from being at least at stage 6 of said disease wherein said stage is as defined herein according to AIzorg.
  16. 16. A method of conveying to a user information about a person, said method comprising said user using a device according to any one of claims 1 to 15, wherein said user is a user as defined in any of claims ito 15.
  17. 17. A method of assisting a user with information about a person, said method comprising said user using a device according to any one of claims 1 to 15, wherein said user is a user as defined in any of claims ito 15.
  18. 18. Use of a device according to any one of claims I to 15 to conveying to a user information about a person, said method comprising said user using said device, wherein said user is a user as defined in any of claims Ito 15.
  19. 19. Use of a device according to any one of claims 1 to 15 to assist a user with infomiation about a person, said method comprising said user using said device, wherein said user is a user as defined in any of claims ito 15.
