Abstract

A kit of parts suitable for repairing the recesses that are left behind when door hinges are removed from a frame. The kit comprises two equal sized pieced of pre-scored wood. The wood is scored with the sizes of common hinges and hence can be cut to size and glued in place using the glue provided in the kit. The kit also comprises a pack of filler material.

Description

Description
Door hinge recess filler pack This invention relates to a pack put together to make light work of filling holes in doors, door frames and window frames after hinges have been removed.
When changing doors or moving them over o the other side of the frame, you are left with holes in the wood from the hinges. These can be quite tricky to fill in and at present you need a selection of tools and equipment to do this. People often call in tradesmen which can be extremely expensive for such a small job.
The door hinge recess filler pack contains everything you need to fill these holes on a low budget and in a very short space of time. The holes can be filled in minutes by either a tradesman or a D.I.Y novice, hence a product within itself.
current methord for fixing hinge recesses consists of expensive tradesmen. This niethord is costly as it requires additional equipment and is not very efficient due to the continuous call out of tradesmen for each recess, therefore basic solutions are hard to come by. Our hinge recess fixing pack does not require skilled tredesmen in the process of hinge recess filling, further more OU( package does not require additional equipment hence keeping costs low and that is effective enough for even the novice or skilled tradesmen to use thus becoming a product of its oWn.
Another strategy involves the use of fillers or putties.
unfortunately these will crack and yellow over time. Thus the surface to render is less susceptible to the holding of paints and varnishes, for example: the finish that you would find on most hinge recesses would be white or a dark brown in colouration due to a thin membrane over the surfice instead of penetrating the wood. characteristics of the varnish or paint membrane surface over fillers can be mottled or cracked and discolouration occurs due to uncompatable textures that are not the same as the grain of the wood surface, ie; fillers and putties are not wood, so effective prevention of such discolouration occuring would b to use the currently provided package we are claiming to have produced.
Our package will serve as part of each process needed to complete the job at hand, positively changing*the way this process is done, enabeling the tradesmen or novice to complete the job at hand within minutes rather than extended time periods due to cuttihg, spliting and plaining the wood recess patches, clamping, drying times, and waiting periods before painting, IE; preparation.
Our pack will have the.job completed. and will be ready to paint or varnish in minutes! Thus to date there has been no report on the use of a packaged fixing implement for the prevention of mottling, cracking and discolouration or processes or treatment of these hinge recess areas presently on the market to overcome the obstacles at hand making this an efficient solution for the problem at hand.
The pack will now be described as in contents and then the use for each item.
Figure A 1 shows the clear plastic zip lock bag which contains the pack.
Figure 8 2 shows a piece of wood; this can be any type of wood as we would offer different varieties the cheapest being balsa wood and going up in price for other veneer woods. The wood has been pre scored with the most common EU hinge sizes which are G4mm,75mm and 100mm tall. Further more it can be cut to any size needed.
Figure C 3 shows a smaller plastic zip lock bag. (quick mix) which contains Sg powdered filler.
Figure D 4 shows a small Sml bottle of contact adhesive glue.
To use this kit you must take 1 piece of wood (figure b2,' check the size of the wood by putting next to hinge hole and then snap the wod along the pre scored line at the correct size to fill your hinge hole.Once you have snapped away the excess wood, check that the wood fits into the hinge hole shugly. If the wopd is still to big, take a pair of scissors and trim until the wood fits snug. once the wood. is trimmed to correct size, take the contact adhesive glue (figure d4)', remove the lid and and squeeze bottle lightly to appl' small amount to one side of the trimmed wood (if the whole length of wood is being used then apply glue to the side with the scored lines in so that when applyed to hinge hole you will have a smooth finish), also apply the same amount of glue into the hole left from the hinge. now put the wood into the hole so that the glued side of' the wood is touching the glued side of the hinge hole, apply light pressure to thG wood for.
approximately 20 seconds. Now while you are waiting for the glue to set, take the small bag of quick mix powdered filler (figure c3), apply a teaspoon of water to the bag, close the bag tightly, and rub the bag with your fingers until a sthooth putty like consistancy is formed with the filler, now trim a small corner, off of the bag and squeeze filler into any gaps around the wood you have just placed into hinge hole. Leave for an hour or so to allow filler and glue to dry, and then you can sand down if needed or simply paint sraight over.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. A small affordable fixing kit to fill in hinge holes left in door frames when changing door to other side of frame.
  2. 2. A kit which contains all essential items to complete the above task, comprising of a 5g bag of quick mix powdered filler, 5ml contact adhesive glue and 2 equal sized pieces of wood that have pre scored measurements that coinside with the standard and most common uk house hold hinge sizes which are 64mm, 75mm and 100mm tall, and further more can be cut to any required size, Also contains full instructions on how to use this kit quickly, safely and correctly with minimal waste, therefore in minutes can be completed in minutes instead of extended tim eperiods.
