Description
A ROLL OF ALUMINIUM FOIL SHEET. A METHOD OF MAKING A COOKING DEVICE. AND A COOKING DEVICE The invention relates to a roll of aluminium foil sheet, a method of making a cooking device, and a cooking device.
In UK patent application publication number GB2364772 (by the applicant for the present invention), a cooking device comprises an upper perforated layer 11 of foil, and a lower (non perforated) layer 13 of foil, which sandwich a midWe layer 12 of absorbent material. It is necessary to obtain two separate sheets of foil, i.e. the upper perforated layer 11 of foil, and the lower (non perforated) layer 13 of foil, from different sources, in order to make the cooking device.
In UK patent application publication number GB2295308, again, an upper aluminium sheet 13 and a separate thwer aluminium sheet II sandwich a absorbent layer 14.
In US patent application publication number US4394410, the perforated layer 12 and the non perforated layer 32 each come from separate rolls 1 0 and 30 (see Figure 1).
An aim of the present invention is to provide an improved, or at least an alternative, roll of aluminium foil sheet, a method of making a cooking device, and a cooking device.
According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a roll of aluminium foil sheet in accordance with Claim 1.
The roll of aluminium foil sheet in accordance with Claim I is advantageous because a person can obtain all of the foil required to assemble the cooking device from a single roll of foil, in other words source.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a method of making a cooking device in accordance with Claim 9.
According to a third aspect of the invention there is provided a cooking device in accordance with Claim 12.
Other opfional and preferred features of the cooking device, and advantages of said features, are set out in the dependent claims, and the description and drawings below.
Features of the cooking device disclosed in the claims, description and drawings can be combined in any complimentary manner, where such a combination of features would provide a working embodiment of the invention.
A roll of aluminium foil sheet in accordance with the invention, a method of making a cooking device in accordance with the invention, and a cooking device, will now be dcscribcd, by way of cxampc only, and with rcfcrcncc to thc accompanying drawings, in which, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll of a'uminium foil in accordance with the invention,
I
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a piece of foil removed from the roll of Figure 1, Figure 3 is a perspective view of a piece of absorbent material installed on the piece of foil of Figure 2, and Figure 4 is another perspective view showing how the piece of foil of Figure 3 is folded to encapsulate the piece of absorbent material.
Referring to Figure 1, a roll of aluminium foil sheet for cooking 10 comprises an elongate aluminium foil sheet 12 wound about its shorter side into a roll.
The sheet 12 is typically wound about a cardboard tube or other suitable substrate, but that is not essential.
The roll 10 comprises a longitudinal axis X, and a first end 14 of the roll 10 along the longitudinal axis X, and a second end 16 of the roll along the longitudinal axis.
In accordance with the invention, the aluminium foil sheet 12 comprises perforations 18, and about hail of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis X is not perforated.
More specifically. the about half of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis which is not perforated extends from one end (for example first end 14) of the roll along the longitudinal axis X. The perforations 18 extend for about half of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis X. The about half of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis which is perforated can extend from one end of the roll along the longitudinal axis. However, in a prefened embodiment of the invention, the about half of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis which is perforated is about adjacent one end of the roll along the longitudinal axis. The about half of the length of the aluminium foil sheet on the roll in the direction of the longitudinal axis which is perforated is between about 1 mm and 50 mm from one end of the roll along the longitudinal axis, more preferably between about 5 mm and 25 mm from one end of the roll along the longitudinal axis.
The roll 10 comprises lines of weakness A that run, periodically, from one end of the roll to the other, allowing pieces of foil 12 to be removed from the roll iii series.
The roll 10 can comprises a line of weakness B, which runs substantially along the length of the elongate aluminium foil sheet approximately half way between ends 14, 16 of the roll or unfurled foil.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a piece of foil 20 is removed from the roll 10 of aluminium foil sheet 12 by tearing or cutting along a line A, transverse (or perpendicular) to the length of the unravelled foil from the roll (in other words, tearing or cutting from one end of the roll to the other).
The pieces of foil can be removed more easily when the lines of weakness are present.
Referring to Figure 2, the piece of foil is folded around the mid point of the piece of foil 20, where there can be a line of weakness B. Referring to Figure 3. a piece of absorbent material 30 is arranged within one half of the pieceoffoil2O.
Alternatively the piece of foil 20 can be folded about line of weakness B after the piece of absorbent material 30 is arranged within one half of the piece of foil 20.
It will be noted that the piece of absorbent material 30 is framed around the edges by material from the piece of foil 20.
Referring to Figure 4, the perforated half of the piece of foil 20 is folded with respect to the non perforated half of the piece of foil 20, about the mid point of the piece of foil 20, so as to encapsulate the piece of absorbent matenal 30.
A line of weakness along Line B or other characteristic can make folding about the mid point easier.
Still referring to Figure 4, once the perforated half of the piece of foil 20 and the non perforated half of the piece of foil 20 come into contact with each other, the material which frames the piece of absorbent material 30 is folded (once, twice, or several times as desired), or otherwise fastened so as to seal the perforated half of the piece of foil 20 and the non perforated half of the piece of foil 20 together, so as to make a cooking device 40.
In use, a person manually arranges food on the upper perforated surface of the cooking device, so that liquid fat or the 111cc from the food can drain through the perforations and be absorbed by the absorbent material 30.
An advantage of the invention is that a person can obtain all of the foil required to assemble the cooking device from a single roll of foil, in other words source.
The Applicant has noted how a cardboard box of tissues allows tissues to be easily dispensed through an opening in the box, one at a time.
According to a fourth aspect of the invention there is provided a dispenser of aluminium foil sheet for cooking in accordance with Claim 16.
The aluminium foil sheets can be arranged in the box or receptacle, and interleaved, in a manner similar to one of many known tissue box arrangements which allow removal of one sheet of tissue from a box at a time. It is known for interleaved tissues to be folded in half and the two parts on either side of the fold sandwiching half of the adjacent folded tissue. In accordance with the invention, one of the two parts on either side of the fold can be (at least partly) perforated and the other part can be non perforated. This arrangement reduces the number of folds in the foil and allows the interleaving fold to be used as a guideline when the aluminium foil sheet is folded in use to make a cooking device.
Due to the different material properties of foil and paper, the opening in the box or receptacle can be approximately the same or in excess of the width of the aluminium foil sheets. In this way, excessive creasing of the foil is avoided.
