Abstract

A roller banner system that comprises two roller banner posts 106 which are telescopic so as to be height adjustable. The posts support two spindles around which a banner 109 is wound. This arrangement means that the height of the banner above the ground may be adjusted. The distance between the supporting roller banner posts can be varied according to the space available and length of the banner. The roller banner post system may be easily and conveniently collapsed into a storage space no bigger than the two posts. The spindles are preferably spring biased so as to wind the banner onto the spindle and to tension the banner. Guy ropes may be used to hold the posts in place.

Description

Patent Application Dated 28th February 2013 Horizontal Roller Banner Post system
Field of Invention
This invention relates to a horizontal roller banner post system, in particular to a height adjustable, retractable horizontal roller banner post system usable with various graphic display banner materials.
Disclosure of Invention
A first aspect of the present invention provides a horizontal roller banner post system which includes two roller banner posts. Each post includes: (i) a telescopic pole with an interior pole which slides relative to an exterior pole whereby a distance said inner pole may extend from said exterior pole is adjustable by means of a twist locking device within the exterior pole; (ii) a spindle with an internal spring mechanism around which the banner is rolled and (iii) two brackets which are mounted on the exterior pole, the purpose of which is to provide support to the spindle. The banner is rolled up equally around each of the spindles and extends from the spindles but is held under tension from the internal springs.
The height of the banner above the ground may be adjusted by unlocking the twist locking device and extending the interior pole to the required height and relocking the twist locking device. The width of the banner can also be adjusted according to.
the space available. The horizontal roller banner may be easily and conveniently retracted into a storage space. This ensures that the horizontal roller banner is stored compactly and protected from damage during storage.
The means for locking the interior part of the pole comprises a twist grip locking mechanism similar to a walking pole or telescope. This arrangement is simple, robust and light. It also enables the height of the horizontal roller banner to be set precisely.
The means for locking the interior part of the pole locks the pole against both extension and retraction relative to the exterior pole, or it only locks it against retraction.
The spindle contains a spring mechanism which pulls the spindle and horizontal roller banner in an outward direction thus exerting a tension on the horizontal roller banner which keeps the banner taut when extended and stops the banner from unwinding when it is stored on the spindle and not in use.
A second aspect of the invention provides a method of adjusting the banner of the first aspect of the invention. The method includes sliding said interior pole relative to said exterior pole to adjust the height of the banner; locking said interior pole in a desired position with said locking means; and pulling said banner so that it unrolls from the spindles.
Each roller banner post is supported by an adjustable nylon guyline and pegged to the ground by aluminium ground pegs.
Brief Description of Drawings
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with referenceto the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a roller banner post according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Embodiments of the present invention and their technical advantages may be better understood by referring to Figure 1, which shows a horizontal roller banner system.
The horizontal roller banner system has two posts (106) which support a banner (109) between them. Guy ropes hold the roller banner posts in place.
The banner is attached at both ends to spindles which contain spring mechanisms.
The user pulls the roller banner posts apart to unroll the banner to the length required, and then secures the roller banner post in place. The height of each roller banner post is adjusted by the twist grip releasing and then locking as much of the internal telescopic pole as is required. During use the spring mechanism pulls on the banner, keeping it in tension between the roller banner posts. Guy ropes hold the roller banner posts in place and stop them from falling inwards under the tension of the banner. When the user is packing away the banner, the spring mechanisms automatically pull the banner back around the spindles. -3

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A roller banner post system comprising two roller banner posts; each of which includes: (i) a telescopic pole with an interior pole which slides relative to said exterior pole whereby a distance said inner pole may extend from said exterior pole is adjustable by means of a twist locking device within the exterior pole; (ii) a spindle with an interior spring mechanism around which the banner is rolled; (iii) two brackets which are mounted on the exterior pole, the purpose of which is to provide support to the spindle.
  2. 2. The roller banner post of claim 1 is height adjustable by means of adjustment of the telescopic poles and the internal locking devices contained in the poles.
  3. 3. The roller banner post of claim 1 is length adjustable by means of spring mechanisms contained in each of the spindles which biases said spindle in a direction which tends to roll said banner onto said spindle.
  4. 4. The roller banner post of any of the preceding claims including one or more guy ropes attached to said roller banner post to hold it in position vertically.
  5. 5. A method of adjusting the banner of any of the preceding claims, the method including sliding said interior telescopic pole to adjust the height of the banner; locking said interior part in a desired position with said locking means; and pulling said banner so that it unrolls from said spindles and remains in place due to the spring tension exerted on the banner by the spindles.
