Abstract
A rigid protracted geophysical equipment, for example a streamer 50, lead in cable 70 or source cable 35, which comprises a length to maximum height or width ratio of at least 1000:1 and comprises control surfaces (figure 8: 110) to enable control when towed through a body of water. Rigid is defined as being substantially inflexible over at least a 25m length or deforming as a beam would. The geophysical equipment may comprise a plurality of spacers 60, within an outer covering, which are configured to align in a rigid line. The control surfaces (figure 8: 110) may be wings and may additionally be stowable in a cavity (figure 8: 130), within the geophysical equipment, and extended when in use. A sleeve may be slidably movable on the geophysical equipment to cover each wing cavity (figure 8: 130). The geophysical equipment may have a bending stiffness of at least 700Nm2 over a distance of at least 25m. The geophysical equipment may have a maximum width/height of 100mm and length of at least 100m.
