Abstract
A reusable fastener for fastening signs to wire mesh fencing includes attachment means D for attaching a sign to the fastener. The fastener takes the form of a clip which is fixed to a fence and comprises a base I and a lid J connected by a hinge F. The clip is held closed by means of hook B engaging with teeth A to ensure the fastener remains securely closed around the mesh fence spoke which is sited in channel E within the base of the fastener. The clip can be released by depressing a hook release C. The attachment means preferably comprises an adhesive pad with a peel off backing.
Description
Mesh fencing signage fastener.
This invention relates to a product for installing signage to wire mesh fencing.
Traditionally site signage is installed to wire mesh fencing by cable ties. However, signage is not produced to be compatible with this type of fixing method. To attach the cable tie to the sign the sign is either hole-punched or drilled to produce a hole for the cable tie to pass through prior to being attached to the wire mesh fence. Once the sign has been hole-punched or drilled it is damaged. Water ingress occurs through the hole rendering the sign unreadable or the area where the sign is drilled fractures causing the sign to become detached from the cable tie and fence. This method of installation is also considered tricky by construction site operatives as the task has to be undertaken whilst wearing task specific gloves as part of the mandatory PPE requirements.
Signage which is not secure, clear or properly displayed is in contravention of the 0DM Regulations 2007. It does not promote the installing companies corporate image and is not sustainable due to wasted materials.
To overcome these issues this invention proposes a specific design to allow the site signage to be easily secured to the wire mesh fencing whilst wearing gloves and without any tools.
The invention is placed over a wire section of fencing in its open state. It is then closed by means of a live hinge around the wire tightly where it is gripped in a specially designed cut out section to ensure maximum contact with the fence. The invention can be used on both horizontal and vertical wire mesh fence sections. Positioning guides have been incorporated into the inventions design to ensure it closes correctly and tightly offering maximum grip to the wire fence. The sign is secured in place by means of hook and teeth components' and once closed can only be opened by applying force to the hook section to detach it from the tooth section. A very high bonding adhesive pad is incorporated into the base of the invention. The adhesive pad has a protective peel back film which is removed prior to the sign being attached. Internal ribbing ensures the invention is robust. The ribbing ensures the invention remains rigid and will not twist.
The invention will ensure site signage is secure and remains undamaged thus complying with 0DM Regulations 2007.
Because the invention will not damage the installed sign the installing company's corporate image is maintained / protected.
The invention will greatly reduce waste in the form of cable ties and damaged signs.
The invention will allow site signage to be attached to a variety of different gauges of wire mesh fencing.
The invention will allow signage to be securely attached to wire mesh fencing without the need of removing mandatory PRE (gloves).
No tools are required to securely attach the signage to wire mesh fencing.
Unlike the traditional cable tie method of installing site signage the invention is reusable and recyclable.
The invention will reduce costs associated with signage installation and improve productivity of site logistics operatives.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the invention in its closed state as it will be when attached to the mesh fencing.
Figure 2 shows the invention in its open state as it will be prior to being installed to the mesh fencing.
In figure 1 A shows the teeth of the invention. The teeth are used to grip the hook B which ensures the lid of the invention J is held securely in place. The lid J is attached to the base of the invention I by a live hinge F. The live hinge F allows the lid J of the invention to be opened and closed by depressing the hook release catch C. The base of the invention I has a channel E formed in it. The channel E is where the spoke of the mesh fencing will be housed when the invention is in its closed state.
In figure 2 D indicates the location of the very high bonding (VHB) adhesive pad which will be used to attach the base of the invention Ito the sign. L shows the hook guide which will ensure the hook B is correctly aligned to the teeth A. The internal ribbing K is designed to strengthen the invention. There are guides G incorporated into the lid J of the invention.
When the lid J is closed to grip the mesh fencing spoke which will be housed in the channel E the guides 0 will be housed in the cavities of the base I as shown by lvi.
