Abstract

A large area programmable sewing machine comprises a traversable support tray 1 which may support asymmetrical and difficult to handle work-pieces without mechanical clamping. Multiple traversable sewing machine units 2 may be included. The support tray may comprise multiple slots or other opening allowing free passage of the sewing needle through the work-piece. A lower bobbin plate may be shaped to allow free passage of the support tray and may have a clearance slot to avoid shearing action with the support plate (figures 7 and 8). Tables (13, figure 9) and corresponding trays may allow offloading of finished work-pieces whilst loading and preparing second work-pieces for quicker production.

Description

Method of stitching large irregularly shaped materials without the need for mechanical clamping This present invention relates to a large area programmable sewing machine capable of stitching together large fabric articles which are difficult to support securely during the sewing process. The object of this invention is to provide a large area programmable sewing machine that is capable of handling asymmetrical and difficult to handle materials.
In recent years there have been many new high tech materials introduced, that, during the manufacturing process require stitching together, including, but not limited to: Textiles, composites, geotextiles, and natural goods.
This invention also allows multiple webs to be laid out in a staggered or feathered orientation due the materials being supported by the supports tray as it passes through the sewing unit. The traditional method for sewing these items would to clamp them around a square framework that has no central support surface. This would mean that a special shaped framework would be needed for each work piece, which would be impractical as well as being cost and time prohibitive.
Description
1. (Figure 1) Shows the transferable work piece support tray (1) and the sewing machine framework.
2. (Figure 2) Shows a large area programmable sewing machine incorporating either one or multiple sewing machine units (2).
3. (Figure 3) Shows the needle (3) on sewing machine (3) passing freely through transferable 4. (Figure 4) Shows different styles and shapes of work pieces (4) which require no mechanical clamping once positioned onto the transferable work piece support tray (1).
5. (Figure Sand figure 6) Shows transferable work piece support tray (1) support by front support table (5) and rear support table (6), where transferable work piece support tray (1) can travel freely under the sewing heads (2). The transferable work piece support tray (1) can move in either direction (7 & 8).
6. (Figure 7) shows a specifically shaped lower bobbin plate (9) to allow for easy passage of the transferable work piece support tray in both directions (10 & 11) and avoid any possible jamming or clashing.
7. (Figure 8) shows a specifically shaped lower bobbin plate with a clearance slot (12) to allow the thread from shearing when the transferable work piece support tray passes over it.
8. (Figure Sand figure 10) Shows two additional support tables (13) to allow for the offloading of finished work pieces whilst loading and preparing a second for quick production. Both additional support tables able to traversable from side to side (14). There is also an additional transferable work piece support tray (15) to allow the layup operation to be performed in conjunction with the sewing operation.
9. (Figure 11) shows the main body of the machine with an unobstructed pathway (16) to allow the free passage of the transferable work piece support tray.

Claims (10)

  1. Claims 1. A large area programmable sewing machine incorporating a traversable work piece support tray.
  2. 2. A large area programmable sewing machine encompassing either one or multiple stationary or traversable sewing machine units.
  3. 3. A large area programmable sewing machine where the support tray has multiple slots or other openings which are positioned over the area to be sewn allowing a sewing needle to freely pass through the work piece.
  4. 4. A large area programmable sewing machine support tray wherein the work piece requires no mechanical clamping.
  5. 5. A large area programmable sewing machine where in the sewing heads are stationery or movable and the work piece supported via a movable support table passes freely underneath.
  6. 6. A large area programmable sewing machine where in the sewing machine lower bobbin plate is shaped in a way to allow the free passage of the support tray.
  7. 7. A large area programmable sewing machine wherein the lower bobbin plate has a clearance slot to avoid a shearing action with the support plate.
  8. 8. A large area programmable sewing machine with movable support tray that is able to traverse in either direction through the sewing unit.
  9. 9. A large area programmable sewing machine wherein the sewing unit is able to be fed by more than one mobile table to allow the support trays to be easily loaded onto the mainmachine table.
  10. 10. A large area programmable sewing machine where there is an unobstructed pathway allowing the support tray to pass through the main body of the sewing unit.
