Abstract

A curved stick 2, a plate 3a and a treadle 4a are used to compress waste. Ideally the plate is rigidly connected to one end of the stick and the treadle is rigidly connected to the other. The curve between can be an inverted U shape so that the connected ends of the stick both point down, one into a wheelie bin 5b and one outside it. The plate 3a could include finger portions 3a to spread the pressure on the waste over a larger area. The treadle could be a foot pedal or merely a bent tube. The plate could be annular or square. The plate, the fingers, the treadle and the stick could be steel, aluminium or plastic. The treadle could be 25-30cm above ground.

Summary of the Invention
[0005] Problems with prior art include that these devices represent either a safety problem or are too complicated, not that easy to manufacture and/or install and are relatively expensive. In addition to this, force developed by hand pressure is about 20% of the force developed by foot pressure.
[0006] According to the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component.
[0007] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the plate is an annular plate, a rectangular plate, a square plate, a triangle plate or a plate of any other suitable shape, whereby the plate can be provided with fingerlike protrusions. The fingerlike protrusions may have an advantage that the device gets in touch and compresses a larger amount of waste and is able to reach farther sections of the container.
[0008] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the plate is an annular plate.
[0009] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the plate is an annular plate with fingerlike protrusions.
[0010] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the plate is located at the end of the curved stick and the treadle component is located at the end part of the curved stick which opposes the end of the curved stick provided with the plate.
[0011] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the plate is located at the end of the curved stick and the treadle component is located at the opposite end of the curved stick.
[0012] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the treadle component is a foot pedal or a bent tube.
[0013] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container. The device comprises a curved stick provided with a plate and a treadle component, whereby the treadle component is a foot pedal.
[0014] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a waste collection container provided with the device described above, whereby the treadle component is located above the ground.
[0015] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a waste collection container provided with the device described above, whereby the treadle component is located above the ground, preferably 25-35 cm above the ground, most preferably 25-30cm above the ground.
[0016] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a waste collection container provided with the device described above, whereby the waste collection container is a bin.
[0017] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a waste collection container provided with the device described above, whereby the waste collection container is a wheelie bin [0018] Embodiments described herein may have an advantage that the device is easy to manufacture and install and is relatively inexpensive.
[0019] Embodiments described herein may have an advantage that the device does not represent a safety risk arising from contact of hands with broken glass, tin cans and other sharp objects.
[0020] Embodiments described herein may have another advantage that the force generated by foot is about five times bigger when compared with force generated by hand.
[0021] Another advantage is that the device can be operated by people who find it hard to compact the waste by hand or to use a device operated by hand, including children, elderly users and users with disabilities.
[0022] Other aspects are as set out in the claims herein.
Brief Description of the Drawings
[0023] For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, there will now be described by way of example only, specific embodiments, methods and processes according to the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: [0024] Figure 1 illustrates a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container with a curved stick, an annular plate and a foot pedal at one end part of the curved stick.
[0025] Figure 2 illustrates a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container with a curved stick, a square plate and a bent tube at one end of the curved stick.
[0026] Figure 3 illustrates a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container with a curved stick, an annular plate with fingerlike protrusions and a foot pedal at one end of the curved stick.
[0027] Figure 4 illustrates a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container with a curved stick, a triangle plate and foot pedal at one end of the curved stick.
[0028] Figure 5 illustrates a waste collection container comprising the device of figure 1.
[0029] Figure 6 illustrates a bin comprising the device of figure 2.
[0030] Figure 7 illustrates a wheelie bin comprising the device of figure 3.
[0031] Figure 8 illustrates a wheelie bin comprising the device of figure 4.
[0032] Figure 9 illustrates an operator operating the device of figure 3 comprised by a wheelie bin.
Detailed Description of the Embodiments
[0033] There will now be described by way of example a specific mode contemplated by the inventors. In the following description numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding. It will be apparent however, to one skilled in the art, that the present invention may be practiced without limitation to these specific details. In other instances, well known methods and structures have not been described in detail so as not to
unnecessarily obscure the description.
[0034] There will now be described several different embodiments and variations of a device for compacting waste in a waste collection container.
[0035] In this specification, the term "wheelie bin" is used to describe a bin provided with wheels.
[0036] At Figure 1, there is shown a device (1) for compacting waste in a waste collection container, comprising a curved stick (2), an annular plate (3a) and a foot pedal (4a) at one end part of the curved stick.
[0037] At Figure 2, there is shown a device (1) for compacting waste in a waste collection container, comprising a curved stick (2), a square plate (3b) and a bent tube (4b) at one end of the curved stick.
[0038] At Figure 3 there is shown a device (1) for compacting waste in a waste collection container, comprising a curved stick (2), an annular plate (3a) with fingerlike protrusions (3a') and a foot pedal (4a) at one end of the curved stick.
[0039] At Figure 4 there is shown a device (1) for compacting waste in a waste collection container, comprising a curved stick (2), a triangle plate (3c) and a foot pedal (4a) at one end of the curved stick.
[0040] At Figure 5 there is shown a waste collection container (5) comprising the device for compacting waste of figure 1.
[0041] At Figure 6 there is shown a bin (5a) comprising the device for compacting waste of figure 2.
[0042] At Figure 7 there is shown a wheelie bin (5b) comprising the device for compacting waste of figure 3.
[0043] At Figure 8 there is shown a wheelie bin (5b) comprising the device for compacting waste of figure 4.
[0044] At Figure 9 there is shown an operator operating the device for compacting waste of figure 3, the device being comprised by a wheelie bin (5b).
When a waste collection container is approaching near full, downward foot pressure on the treadle component (foot pedal) is transferred to the plate, compresses the waste and gives more space to add more waste. This is being repeated by moving the device over different parts of the waste collection container. When the waste is compressed, more waste can be added and the operation repeated.
[0045] The material from which said curved stick (2) , said plate and said fingerlike protrusions (3a, 3a' 3b, 3c) or said treadle component (4a, 4b) are made is stiff and/or flexible. Materials known in the art may be used, such as steel, aluminium or plastics.
