250,740. Gledhill, A. H. March 27, 1925. Factory and like time recorders, card-type. - In apparatus provided with an arresting mechanism for preventing movement of the operating lever or impression hammer until a card is correctly placed in its holder the arresting mechanism is so constructed that the card automatically releases it when the operating lever is manipulated. The card acts as a stop to arrest a member which would otherwise actuate an intercepting member to prevent movement of the operating lever or impression hammer. As shown applied to a recorder with clipper mechanism the plunger C is formed with a passage c' to receive a slidable member D on which the portion of the card to be cut rests. The member D has a forward abutment d and a rear arm d<1> and is maintained in position on the plunger C by the cutter c<2>. Bearing against the arm d<1> is a spring-controlled lever d<3> having a forked end d<5> engaging a bail d<6> pivoted to the side frames. If a card is not in correct posit.ion in the card holder the lever d' during the initial movement of the operating lever A rocks the bail d<6> so as to move a depending arm d' with teeth d<3> thereon into the path of movement of a toothed projection d<9> on the operating lever A to arrest its movement. When the card is placed in its proper position the abutment d on the member D is arrested by the card and the lever d<3> is not rocked sufficiently to move the arm d<7> to the intercepting position. According to the Provisional Specification, the bail d<6> carries a finger adapted to engage a tumbler lever on the operating lever and to move it against the action of a spring to a position to engage an abutment on the frame. In the form as applied to a recorder with a vertically movable card support the operating lever A, Fig. 9, carries a pawl e<6> for co-operation with a fixed serrated abutment e<7>, the movement of the pawl being controlled, through a link e<5>, plate e<4>, and bail e<3>, by a bell-crank member e, Fig. 10, pivoted on the card support. When the card is correctly inserted movement of the member e is arrested thereby to prevent the engagement between the pawl e<6> and abutment e<7>. In a modification wherein the printing hammer is prevented from making an impression when a card is not present or incorrectly positioned, the plate e<4>, Fig. 12, is connected by a link f<4> through a spring f<5> and pin and slot connection f<6>. to an interceptor member F which is rocked into the path of a tappet f<1> on the printing hammer shaft f<2> between it and a spring plunger f.
