Abstract
Disclosed is a notebook, laptop type portable touch screen computer 1 with a detachable keyboard 2 and an adjustable stand 4. The keyboard and the stand are stored inside the computer. The stand may be telescopic and also be moved to a required angle by rotating hinges. The stand may be detachable. The keyboard may have a built in pointing device, and linked to the computer by wireless or wired means. The detachable keyboard and stand allow the computer to be used in a more ergonomic manner.
Description
Title: Ergonomic Portable Computer
Background:
This invention relates to an ergonomic portable computer which does not cause bad posture.
The positioning of current laptop keyboards causes instability and rounding of the shoulders through reaching forward for typing. The positioning of current laptop screens causes kyphosis (slouching) of the spine as the display is significantly below eye level. To avoid eye strain it is best not to sit too closely to the screen; yet the further you distance yourself from the laptop and its keyboard, the worse your posture becomes. This problem is illustrated in figure 14.
Current tablet computers are too small to be used as a replacement for laptops or desktop computers and lack an integral stand and keyboard, unlike this invention. Desktop computers, although purchasable with separate keyboards and monitors, cannot easily be stored securely or transported, unlike this invention.
This invention improves posture and serves as a replacement for tablet, laptop and desktop computers in both commercial and domestic contexts.
US2001000447 (stand) is substantially different to this invention as it is just a stand and is unsuitable for most laptops as their screens do not have the ability to rotate through 1 8O as required.
W0002851 0 (z computer) is also substantially different to this invention as it consists of three panels rather than just one. W00028510 is also of entirely different appearance and structure as it has no detachable parts.
US5729429 (laptop with adjustable screen) is different to this invention as crucially its keyboard and computer form one unit and the display another, unlike this invention in which the display and computer form one unit and the keyboard another. The stand designed in US5729429 is not detachable unlike this invention and is comprised of four pieces rather than one. The stand in US5729429 is not as adjustable as the one in this invention and is therefore less ergonomic. This invention allows the screen to be positioned at eye height unlike US5729429, casting doubt on the ergonomic effectiveness of the prior art. This invention is also of a completely different appearance to a traditional laptop and has three main detachable parts unlike US5729429.
US2009231795 (laptop with adjustable screen) is also different to this invention as it is essentially a laptop with a display which can be adjusted along they axis to position it at a more ergonomic height; unlike this invention in which the display houses the main body of the computer, unlike a laptop, and the entire computer consists of three distinct pieces as opposed to one.
US8295652 (laptop with adjustable screen) and W02009036763 (large laptop) are substantially different to this invention as they again consist of a single laptop piece as opposed to the three pieces which form this invention. This invention improves upon the prior art by presenting an invention that is ergonomic, fully adjustable, portable, lightweight and storable.
Statement of invention:
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes an ergonomic portable touch screen computer with an adjustable stand and a detachable keyboard, both of which can be stored inside the computer.
The combination of the detachable keyboard and fully adjustable stand allows the user to: * set the screen to eye level to prevent kyphosis; * position themselves at an appropriate distance from the screen to avoid eye strain; and * place the keyboard close to the body to avoid rounding of the shoulders and wrist strain; and * yet still be able to easily transport the computer.
Advantages: This invention improve the user's health, quality of life, comfort, and reduce employer's costs resulting from postural injuries (personal injury claims, sick pay, reductions in output).
The invention can be folded into a single piece which makes it easier to transport and store securely than a laptop, a screen and a keyboard.
The invention (which will have a touch screen) removes the need for employers to provide employees with a desktop computer (with a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse), a laptop computer (with a monitor attachment for office use), and a tablet computer. The invention can be used as a replacement for all three, saving money and space.
The stand enables the computer to be positioned in the air, away from a hard surface, which aides cooling and prolongs the computer's life.
Preferably, the computer will have a CD/DVD drive and sufficient other drives (USB) for practical usage.

Detailed description:
Annotation List: 1. touch screen; 2. keyboard; 3. attachment socket for stand; 4. stand (stored in Figure 2, screwed into touch screen in Figure 13); 5. power button; 6. drive sockets (USB, CD, etc.); 7. power cable socket; 8. keyboard keys and pointing device; 9. stand leg; 10. stand hinge (which rotates a limited number of degrees dependent upon the hinge); 11. telescopic tube; 12. attachment screw; 13. note the angle for improved stability.
The touch screen 1 may house both the keyboard 2 and stand 4 by slotting both items into the screen's back side. The touch screen 1 may be attached to the stand by the attachment screw 12 and socket 3. The stand may be extended by moving the telescopic tubing 11 to the desired height. The stand hinges 10 may rotate to set the invention in a stable and suitable position. The keyboard 2 may be unattached for use. The invention may also be used as a large tablet computer when keyboard 2 and stand 4 are stored.
Claims (8)
- Claims: 1. A ergonomic portable touch screen computer with an adjustable stand and a detachable keyboard, both of which can be stored inside the computer.
- 2. A computer according to claim 1, in which the stand is telescopic.
- 3. A computer according to claim 1, in which the stand is detachable.
- 4. A computer according to claim 1, in which the stand is attached to the computer.
- 5. A computer according to claim 1, in which the stand has hinges which allow it to be positioned at different angles.
- 6. A computer according to claim 1, in which the detachable keyboard has a built in pointing device.
- 7. A computer according to claim 1, in which the detachable keyboard is linked to the computer by wireless connection.
- 8. A computer according to claim 1, in which the detachable keyboard is linked to the computer by wired connection.
