Abstract

A disc for a disc screen, includes attachment means for attaching the disc to the shafts of a disc screen and has a removable wear portion which allows for the wear part to be replaced with the shaft in operational position and without removing the disc from the shaft.

Description

DISC FOR DISC SCREEN
This invention relates to a disc for use in a disc screen.
A disc screen is a series of parallel shafts mounted at each end by fixed bearings. The shafts are driven at one end by a series of motors with each motor driving a multiple number of shafts. Each shaft has discs mounted across its length at specified distances. The discs are mounted by sliding them onto the shaft with shrouds between them to regulate the distance between discs; each shaft is assembled from one end to the other.
Every other shaft has an offset disc pattern to allow the disc to run inside the previous shafts discs when operational. Disc screens can be used in a number of applications, one of which is the separation of household and commercial waste in a material recovery facility. When the screen is operational the waste is carried over the screen by the disc, different types of waste will be carried over the screen to be processed whilst other types will fall through onto a lower conveyor where they will be carried and processed in another part of the facility.
Due to household and commercial waste being extremely abrasive the discs become worn and do not perform efficiently. In order to change a disc or a series of discs it is necessary to de-activate the disc screen and lift the shafts from their operational position. The discs and spacers must then be removed and then reassembled with new discs as and where necessary. Such maintenance is extremely time consuming.
To overcome the problem the present invention proposes a new type of disc whereby a wear part of the disc can be removed and replaced whilst the disc screen is de-activated but the shaft remains in operational position and the discs and shrouds will not need to be removed.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: * Figure 1 shows a fixed side plate Figure 2 shows a retaining cap Figure 3 shows a split wear part Figure 4 shows a split side plate FigureS shows an assembled disc In figure 1, the fixed side plate has internally threaded locating pins and a central spacer ring on the inner face. Weights will be added to ensure an even balance around the circumference of the disc.
The plate is slid along the shaft to a shroud at a said position.
In figure 2, the retaining cap is slid along the shaft up to the central spacer ring of the fixed side plate in figure 1. The plate of the retaining cap faces out and a further shroud is slid along the shaft up to the retaining cap.
Tension is then applied to the disc by a shroud slid against the retaining cap and tension is maintained by a shroud located at the outer face of the fixed side plate, which also holds the disc in position.
In figure 3, the split wear part has holes which the locating pins on the fixed side plate in figure 1, locate through.
In figure 4, the split side plate has holes in the same position as the locating pins on the fixed side plate in figure 1,the split side plate is used to hold the split wear part in figure Sin position by bolting through the holes into the internally threaded locating pins on the fixed side plate in figure 1.
In figure 5 the disc is shown assembled as described in the figures above. * . * * ** * * . * . . * . *** 0e. * * *.
