A STORAGE FRAME
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a storage frame for valuables, more particularly to a disguised storage device for valuables.
Background and Prior Art
Discrete storage of valuables in the home is often a priority so as to reduce the likelihood of theft. In particular it is often desirable to keep valuables out of sight so as to not be visible.
A number of secure storage devices are available to try and address this problem.
Commonly people have a safe in the home or a place of work in which items of value can be stored, however this may not always be convenient, may require specialist fitting and may be restrictive, requiring time to access the safe.
Other storage devices such as jewellery boxes have been developed for storing valuables, however these are often clearly identifiable and can be easily moved and thus may be an easy target for a thief.
Also such storage devices often take up a lot of space in the home for example on a dressing table and people may not have space to display other items such as pictures and ornaments.
In contrast the present invention provides a means of hiding valuables in a commonly used format that will not attract attention.
Summary of the Invention
* According to the present invention there is provided a storage frame comprising: a mount adapted for displaying an image; a container; and at least one removable panel.
In preferred embodiments the container forms a storage area wherein valuables such as jewellery or cash can be stored. Ideally the container includes adapted storage solutions for jewellery in particular.
Furthermore, in preferred embodiments the mount is mounted on the container so as to allow disguised or discrete storage, wherein typically the mount supports, covers, encloses or displays an image such as photograph so as to give a standardised appearance of a picture mount. Advantageously therefore the mount can act as a door to the container.
The storage frame can be therefore adapted or adaptable for male, female, adult or child usage, with a plurality of uses in various embodiments, and accordingly a plurality of storage panel solutions.
Typically the box is cuboid, square or rectangular and includes a base, sides and a lid. It is envisaged that one or more of the sides or base or more preferably the lid functions as the mount for displaying the image and consequently may include glass or transparent plastic.
In some embodiments in addition or the alternative, at least one of the sides or the lid of the container is further a removable, detachable or displaceable panel so as to provide, an opening through which the container may be accessed by a user.
Said displaceable opening or door may connect to the container by means of robust fastening such as a clip, latch, male and corresponding sections, hook or magnetic sections so as to ensure the storage frame remains securely closed when not in use and unauthorised and undesired movement or displacement is minimised.
In all preferred embodiments the container is lockable and/or provided with a resilient catch, typically wherein the door may be locked by means of a lock and key. In all such preferred embodiments the lock and/or hinges are discrete and/or disguised so as to not appear to be obvious or give an impression that valuables may be enclosed.
Preferably the container includes at least one panel mounted on at least one internal face of the container, which panels provide hooks, hangers or locations for hanging items such as rings or bracelets.
In this way the panel or panels may be doubly used as means of holding or maintaining valuables in place, so as to avoid alerting potential thieves of an internal container and may in some embodiments include insulation or padding to further aid said purpose.
Said panels may be displaceable or hinged in order to allow plural panel layers and additionally or in the alternative allow confined or restrained storage so as to aid in concealing of valuables.
In some embodiments therefore more than one panel may be mounted on the same internal face of the container, typically one panel in front of another, Panels may be hinged so as to be displaceable in order to reveal rear panels. Preferably hinged panels are double sided so that both sides may be used for storage.
In preferred embodiments the panels are predominantly planar and/or shaped to fit the internal face of the container and includes a plurality of hooks, loops, nodules or indents on which valuables such as jewelry can be held or hung.
In further embodiments it may be envisaged that the panel or panels may also include, provide or support transparent or meshed pouches to hold items and allow them to be clearly identifiable, ring rolls to hold and display rings and apertures for earrings or cufflinks.
In other embodiments the panel or panels may be moulded or shaped to include shelves or raised and lowered parts in order to support and display small items such as stud earrings.
Preferably the panel is formed of a lightweight, durable material such as synthetic plastic or injection moulded polymer. In some embodiments the panel may be formed from lightweight rigid material such as aluminium or wood.
In some embodiments the panels may have a soft outer coating such as fabric that does not tarnish precious metals or stones. It is envisaged that panels may be available in various colours, patterns or textures.
In preferred embodiments panels may be adapted for vertical or horizontal planes.
For example the vertical panels may include a plurality of hooks to allow items to be hung in a vertical orientation, such as necklaces. Horizontal panels typically may include indents in which stud earrings or cufflinks can be mounted or rings may be slotted.
Typically said panels may be fixed in position by adhesive and/or other permanent mechanism such as stapling or pins, where it is not necessary to move the panel(s).
In some preferred embodiments the panels are removably attached by means of clip, magnet or latch so as to be able to be replaced or exchanged and in some embodiments provide a yet further disguised and/or concealed storage area.
In further embodiments the internal face of the container may be adapted to include individual hooks, loops indents or shelves to store jewellery in addition or as an alternative to panels.
Said loops may be individualised for storage of specific items of jewellery, for example wherein there may be provided a plurality of hooks for tidy storage hanging items such as necklaces, which may be situate above or over transparent, translucent or mesh pouches for storage of the chain.
Velcro (Trade Mark) loops may be used to clasp rings, and a mesh or grid or perforated screen may be included for mounting earrings. Preferred embodiments may also or alternatively include rolls for rings, which may be comprised by elongate members, wherein said members may be hinged or otherwise displaceable so as to permit addition of rings onto the member.
In yet further embodiments the panel(s) may be integrated with the wall of the container so as to form part of the container as opposed to being an additional or independent part.
Additionally or alternatively the base of the display mount may include additional storage, such as a drawer or tray which may be concealed behind or on a panel.
Said drawer is advantageously concealed so as to prevent visibility or notice of further purposes for the storage frame, and may extend from the storage frame solely under defined conditions to limit unauthorised or undesired tampering.
In some embodiments the drawer is spring loaded or otherwise automatically extendable when a concealed mechanism is operated.
In further embodiments the base may be rotatable wherein the box and mount can be turned to allow the user view it from another angle, and for example said rotation may enable opening of the drawer. The mount can rotate on a spindle that is fixed to the base drawer unit.
In further embodiments the at least one panel may include a mirror with a reflective surface so that the user can try on and view their jewellery.
In other embodiments panels may be covered by a curtain of material typically fabric so that when the lid is opened the contents are not immediately obvious, and wherein for example the panel muffles sounds and movement of the container contents.
In some embodiments the mount may be available in various shapes for example a rectangular, square, heart shaped, or circular. Alternative bespoke shapes or multi-angled shapes may also be available for example a pyramid shape.
In some embodiments the storage frame may be adapted to be wall mounted so that it has the appearance of a picture mount, disguising its storage properties.
In yet further embodiments the storage frame may include a light so as to enable the user to be able to see the contents of the container when opened and/or general illumination or illumination of the image. It is envisaged that the light is a light emitting diode (LED) so as to have low energy consumption and low heat generation.
Preferably the light is powered by a battery although some embodiments may include wired mains electrical provision. The light may illuminate an image whilst in the storage frame, or to show a clock in darkness, for example should the storage frame be used on a bedside table.
It is envisaged that such a light may be activated by opening of the box.
Some further embodiments of the storage frame may include a mirror or a clock face which may comprise the image instead of a photo mount, or may be an additional image, internal to the storage frame or in a different area. In this way the storage frame may be used as a mirror or comprise a mirror.
Yet further embodiments may provide a digital display for images, for example wherein the storage frame includes data processing means, energy source such as a rechargeable battery, and liquid crystal display.
