Abstract

The invention presents a method for employing a human fingerprint to authenticate contactless transactions between a Contactless Transaction Device and a Touchscreen Device equipped with a Contactless Transaction System and Fingerprint Acquisition System. The steps of the method are: (i) The pre-conditions are set; (ii) The human digit is applied to the touchscreen of the touchscreen device; (iii) The human fingerprint is acquired by the touchscreen device; (iv) The touchscreen device validates the human fingerprint; (v) The touchscreen device transmits the transaction authorisation to the contactless transaction device; (vi) The contactless transaction device processes the transaction authorisation; (vii) The contactless device approves the transaction; and (viii) The contactless process continues.

Description

Human Fingerprint Authentication System For Contactiess Transactions
Field of the Invention
The invention presents a method for employing a human fingerprint to authenticate contactless transactions between a Contactless Transaction Device and a Touchscreen Device equipped with a Contactless Transaction System and Fingerprint Acquisition System.
Background of the Invention
The current means of contactless transactions, particularly financial, are restricted due to the nature of not present' authentication concerns. In a financial transaction situation a Contactless Device can easily be used by an unauthorised party as no authentication is required when presenting the Contactless Device to another Contactless Device that is authorises the transaction. For this reason the major credit card organisations have implemented safeguards to limit their exposure to unauthorised transactions, for example to a maximum number of small transaction amounts within a set period such as 3 transactions of no more than £15 per transaction within a 60 minute period.
(\i This fundamental barrier is preventing the growth of contactless methods of 1 payments being adopted and used in various alternative devices in addition to the regular credit card'. Although it has never been verified that a human fingerprint is unique (as there are potentially over 50 billion fingerprints available with no single O catalogue) the likelihood of two people having the same fingerprint are extremely low with no recorded cases on record.
O A Touchscreen Device can encompass numerous devices -for example, a smartphone, a tablet computer, a wristwatch. All of these devices have one thing in common -they are operated by a human being who in the vast majority of cases has at least one finger print.
Pressing a human digit onto the touchscreen is a natural behaviour, and one which is becoming more and more common in a digital age dominated by touchscreens operated by digits rather than the traditional keyboard and mouse. By using the human finger print as an authentication method opens up the possibilities of this becoming the de facto means of personal authentication for all transactions.
Summary of the Invention
The invention allows the human fingerprint to be used to authenticate the transaction made by a Touchscreen Device equipped with a Contactless Transaction System and Fingerprint Acquisition System.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments
Referring to Figure 1, the process for authenticating a Contactless Transaction using a human fingerprint according to a given condition comprises the following steps: Step 101: The pre-conditions must be met before the invention begins: there is a Transaction requiring a Contactless Authorisation, the Contactless Transaction Device is ready to accept the transaction, the Touchscreen Device is ready to authorise a transaction, the Touchscreen Deive has not been authorised to transmit a transaction and the conditional value for activating the contactless transaction is set Step 102: The human digit that is associated with the authorisation is presented to the touchscreen of the Touchscreen Device Step 103: The Touchscreen Device acquires the fingerprint using the Fingerprint (\i Acquisition Unit Step 104: The Touchscreen Device validates the human fingerprint for authorisation 0 Step 105: The Touchscreen Device transmits transaction authorisation using Contactless Transaction System to the Contactless Transaction Device with transaction nietadata Step 106: The Contactless Transaction Device processes the transaction Step 107: The Contactless Transaction Device approves the transaction Step 108: The Contactless Process continues Referring to Figure 2, the Contactless Transaction Device receiving the contactless transaction and the Touchscreen Device authenticating a contactless transaction using a human fingerprint requires the following components 201: Contactless Transaction Device that can process Contactless Transactions 202: Touchscreen Device 203: Contactless Transaction System within the Touchscreen Device 204: Fingerprint Acquisition System within the Touchscreen Device Referring to Figure 3, the human digit is presented to the device touchscreen in the same manner as any present invention for finger print scanning. This figure serves as an illustrative example for a Touchscreen Device
