Description
Angle adjustment device for a back rest of a car seat The invention relates to an angle adjustment device adapted to pivot a back rest of a car seat and to said car seat.
Back rests of car seats are in case of certain car models not only simply foldable, but also movable between two inclination positions, wherein the back rest is still in an upright position. In a first inclination position, a so-called comfort position, the back rest is inclined in a certain angle, wherein seating is comfortable for an occupant. In a second inclination position, so-called cargo position, said back rest is inclined in a steeper angle than in the comfort position, gaining more cargo space behind the car seats while retaining seating accommodation for the occupants.
Several adjustment devices are known as e. g. the one disclosed in the EP 1 604 863 A2 * which shows a device for supporting a back rest of a car seat, wherein a coupling element is provided, which connects to a vehicle-lateral attachment location and is in an overhung a position. The coupling element is formed as a one piece striker plate with milled-in slots for a pin locking and is axially elongated wherein it has a turned end, which cooperates with a closing element, in particular with a closing handle. The nearly horizontal aligning of said coupling element is adverse in this case, as said coupling element reaches into the cargo space behind the back rest and reduces the same.
* The WO 2006/079300 A2 discloses a backrest unit for a motor vehicle seat, in particular a rear seat comprising a backrest and a support connected thereto. A guide rail is arranged on the rear surface of said backrest on an x-z-plane. A slide is movably mounted on said guide rail and is lockable therein in different positions, When a control device associated with the slide is actuated, it brings the slide from a normally blocking position into a released position. A support comprises a near end that is hinged on the slide and a distant end, which is fixable to a bodywork part. Disadvantageously said backrest unit is located behind the backrest and therefore occupies non-neglectable space in the cargo area.
From patent application DE 199 15 315 Al an inclination adjustment for a rear seat with a device using two interlocking cams is known. One of said cams is aligned as such that it is pivotable around a horizontal axis, being attached to a carriage part of a car. A release device is provided for releasing fixable connection parts, which can be locked in place in different inclination positions. Between said fixable connection parts and a back rest a connector part is provided which interacts with said back rest. This inclination adjustment arranged horizontally reaches from the C-Pillar into the rear part of the car behind the rear seat row, reducing cargo space as such.
US 4,900088 shows a back rest for a vehicle seat, which is adjustable in its angle of inclination about a pivot axis lateral to the rear side direction. Such a back rest has two folding locks on each side of the back, wherein each folding lock is provided with a locking member movable between a locking position and a release position. The locking members are each connected with an end of a cable, the other end of which is connected with an activating device arranged on the supporting portions of the back rest. The activating device is located on the rear side of said back rest and comprises a support for a bolt, wherein a double-armed pivot lever is arranged on the bolt and the arms of the lever are connected with respective cores of the cables. The back rest is disadvantageously only adjustable in a normal position for seating and a folded position, wherein the back rest folded down completely for loading cargo in the car-Moving the back rest between two seating positions in order to gain cargo space and simultaneously allow seating is not * intended. * * .
Based on this state of the art, it is an object of the invention to provide a device for back rest adjustment, which has a small fitting dimension and is easy to use. *
This object is solved by the angle adjustment device adapted to be used with a car seat C" having the features according to claim 1. *.
S
A further object of this invention is to allow an angle adjustment without de-latching a car seat as such.
This object is solved by a car seat having the features according to claim 5.
Preferred embodiments of the device and the car seat each are shown by the dependent claims.
According to the invention, an angle adjustment device comprises a back rest of a car seat, at least one striker plate, a mounting bracket and a pull strap assembly. Preferably said mounting bracket is mounted at its full length lengthwise to an inner side of a car via fasteners, wherein one end of said striker plate is pivotably mountable to a lateral side of said back rest via a striker and another end of said striker plate is pivotably mountable to said mounting bracket. Further on said pull strap assembly is mounted between said mounting bracket and a cam mounting bracket is adapted to pivot said striker and said striker plate. A cargo area of a car is increased, as the device according to this invention is small in size and can be packaged on the inner side of said car, such as a C-pillar area, nearly vertically without occupying cargo space-Said device can be facilitated from a trunk or a side door with ease-Also, the device can easily be packaged inside a rear side trim resulting that only the striker, which holds the back rest in an upright position, is visible, A link plate is provided linking a middle part of said striker plate with an upper part of said mounting bracket! wherein said link plate is pivotably connected to said striker plate and said mounting bracket-This ensures a stable and reproducible movement of the device.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, said striker is adapted to be engaged with holding means connected to the lateral side of said back rest-These holding means can be designed on various ways, but should provide hold of said striker by clamping orjamrning. Herewith an occupant can release the striker from said holding :. means for folding down said back rest in order to increase the cargo space for bigger * * loads * * *
S
Preferably said mounting bracket and said cam mounting bracket each are provided with at least one guiding mechanism comprising at least one guidance rail and at least one *.**** guide pin, said guide pin being in particular a rod actuator pin, wherein said guide pin is located between said mounting bracket and said cam mounting bracket and is operably connected with said guidance rail. Herewith a stable and repeatable movement of the back rest is provided.
Furthermore according to the invention said pull strap assembly comprises at least a pull strap, a locking cam, and a locking cam guide pin. Via the pull strap, occupants can simply pull to aèhieve an angle adjustment, as there no wasted motion to be done.
At least one part of said device is made out of metal, in particular aluminium, which is a light weight material and thus advantageous for light weight build, and which is nevertheless stable and durable over time.
A car seat according to the invention comprises a back rest, wherein said back rest on at least one lateral side comprises a device for angle adjustment. Said back rest is movable around a pivot point between at least two positions, a comfort position, wherein said back rest is locked in a first angle, and a cargo position, wherein said back rest is locked in an second angle, by an angle adjustment by said angle adjustment device. The angle in the comfort position is wider than the angle in the cargo position, so that a back rest in the cargo position is nearly completely upright positioned in order to gaincargo space behind the car seat. The lengthsof the different linkages and parts named above define the actual possible angle. By adjusting the lengths of the different linkages, different angles for said back rest could be achieved.
For a good fixture of the device to the inner side of said car, said cam mounting bracket is arranged between said mounting bracket and said inner side of said car, while said fasteners connecting said mounting bracket and said inner side of said car are rivets or screws. Also said guide pin and/or said locking cam guide pin are rivets, for an easy r assembly. The guide pins can also be small actuator rods whichever is simpler to construct. * * * **.
Embodiments of said invention facilitate angle adjustment without completely de-latching a back rest of a car seat. Also the device has a small fitting dimension, so that said device can be mounted on for example on a C-pillar in an angle parallel to the angle of the back * * * *. a * * rest in the comfort position. In the comfort position the device is covered completely by the lateral side of the back rest. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the device be fully integrated into the interior paneling, wherein only the striker is projecting in order to be held on the lateral side of said back rest.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of embodiments of the present invention will be readily appreciated and become better understood by reference to the following more detailed description of preferred embodiments in connection with the accompanied drawings. Features that are substantially or functionally equal or similar will be referred to with the same reference signs. The Figures show: Fig. 1 an exploded view of a angle adjustment device according to the invention; Fig. 2 a side view of a car seat in a comfort position; and Fig. 3 a side view of a car seat in a cargo position.
The herein disclosed invention refers to an angle adjustment device for a back rest of a car seat as well as a car seat as such.
Such a device 1 is shown in Fig. 1 in an exploded view. Said device 1 comprises a mounting bracket 2, which is mounted for example on a C-pillar of a car to hold the device 1. To illustrate the arrangement of the mounting bracket 2 on said C-pillar, Fig. 2, 3 show place markers 3, which resemble the C-pillar of the car. While said mounting bracket 2 is held by fasteners, such as rivets, screws or else, in fastening bores 4a, 4b, to the C-pillar, its position is an parallel arrangement to said C-pillar in this way that said mounting bracket 2 is mounted at its full length onto said C-pillar. No part of said mounting bracket 2 * protrudes sideways into a cargo space.
In a first link bore 5a of the mounting bracket 2 a link rivet 6a is insertable into a econd link bore 5b and connects one end of a link plate 7 pivotably to the mounting bracket 2.
The location of said link rivet 6a is also a pivot point for the link plate 7. The other end of *:... said link plate 7 has a third link bore Ba, which is pivotably connected to a fourth link bore 8b located on a corresponding middle part of a striker plate 9 via a link rivet 6b. Said striker plate 9 has a step like form with at least two steps, wherein on each step means for fastening, in this case two bores Sb, 13 and a striker 10, are formed on said striker plate 9.
Said striker 10 has a U-like shape and is adapted to engage with holding means 11 connected to a lateral side of a back rest 12 (see Fig. 2,3). These holding means 11 can * * be of different construction, but provide a hold 01 the striker 10 by clamping, jamming or else. The striker 10 is pivotably connected to said holding means 11, rotatable around a pivot point iDa which coincides with the part of the striker 10 where it is pivotably held in said holding means 11.
The striker plate 9 is further on pivotably connected to said mounting bracket 2 via a fifth link bore 13 and a guide pin 14, which itself reaches through a first guidance rail 15 formed in a middle part of said mounting bracket 2. In this embodiment, the guide pin 14 is a rivet, but can also be a short rod. For a stable movement of said guide pin 14, a cam mounting bracket 16 with a corresponding second guidance rail 17 is pressed to the C-pillar by fastening the mounting bracket 2 to said C-pillar. The guide pin 14 is also operably connected to said second guidance rail 17. the guidance rails 15, 17 together with the guide pin 14 serve as a guiding mechanism, wherein between said mounting bracket 2and said cam mounting bracket 16 at least one guide pin 14 is operably connected with said guiding mechanism.
To enable a movement of the above named parts, a pull strap assembly18 is provided, comprising a pull strap 19, a locking cam 20, a locking cam guide pin 21 and at least one spring 22. Said pull strap assembly iBis connected to the mounting bracket 2 and the cam mounting bracket 16 each by being fastened in corresponding bores 23a,23b, which are located on a middle of an axis parallel to a longitudinal center line through the guidance rails 15.17. The pull strap 19 is connected to said locking cam 20, which is adapted to engage onto the guide pin 14. Said spring 22 is a spiral ring or a circlip, and provides means for a needed reset force inside the device 1.
The device 1 is mounted between a C-pillar (place holders 3) and a lateral side of a car seat 24 comprising the back rest 12 and a head rest 25, as shown in Fig. 2 and 3, wherein said back rest 12 is foldable around a pivot point P1. The back rest 12 adopts two different positions. In a first position, shown in Fig. 2, the car seat is in a comfort position, wherein said back rest is locked in an first angle X, dispositive to an axis A and a pivot point P2. In a second position as shown in Fig. 3, the back rest 12 is in a cargo position, wherein said back rest is locked in an second angle Y, dispositive to said axis A and said pivot point : ... P2. The angle V is according to the invention steeper than angle X, wherein in said cargo position the back rest 12 is more upright and a cargo space behind the car seat 24 as a whole is increased. Still it is possible for occupants to be seated in the car seat 24. The : device 1 is mounted on the C-pillar in an angle parallel to the angle X of the back rest in * the comfort position. Therefore it is completely covered by the lateral side of said back rest 12.
In principle the device 1 works similar to a crank and slider linkage, wherein rods (here depicted by link plate 7 and striker 9) move forwards and backwards in a slider, in this embodiment the guidance rails 1517. Fixed pivot points (striker pivot point ba, link rivets 6a,6b) anchor the linkages to each other. The lengths of the different linkages and pads named above define the actual angle V. By adjusting the lengths of the different linkages, different back angles can be achieved.
-The device 1 in interaction with the back rest 12 works as follows. In Fig. 2 the comfort position is depicted, wherein said device 1 is folded. All parts are in a vertical alignment between C-pillar and lateral side of the back rest 12. The guide pin 14 sits in a lower region of the guidance rail 15,17.
When an occupant actuates the pull strap 19 the locking cam 2Ois loosened such that the guide pin 14 is released. Pulling forces cause the striker plate 9 to turn in their pivot points 1 Oa on striker 10 and the moving of guide pin 14 in guidance rails 15,17, so that the guide pin 14 moves upwards. The link plate? is pivoted outwards in direction of the striker plate 9. Via striker 10 forces are transmitted to back rest 12 via fastening means 11, whereupon said back rest 12 eventually pivots around pivot point P1 into the cargo position as seen in Fig. 3. During this whole movement, the mounting bracket 2 is fixed in its position, so that none of the device parts protrudes into the cargo space behihd the back rest 12.
For reset to the comfort position, the movement functions vice versa. The pull assembly 18 transmits forces to the guide pin 14! which moves downwards in the guidance rails 15, 17. The link plate 7 pivots back into a nearly vertical position around its pivot point 6b and ". : the striker plate 9 pivots around the striker pivot point lOs. Eventually, back rest 12 is * pushed backwards until the guide pin 14 reaches the end of said guidance rails 15,17 and angle X and therefore the comfort position is reached.
