Abstract
250,262. International General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitdts Ges.). April 2, 1925, [Convention date]. Insulating coverings for cables and conductors; cables and conductors, machines, apparatus, and processes for making.- Apparatus for uniformly coating conductors with a flaky fibrous insulating material such as asbestos, comprises rollers by which the material is thrown on to the conductor and a circulating air current which maintains a constant supply of the material to the rollers. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the conductor a is led from a drum b over a guide pulley c through a container d provided with adhesive into the chamber v between two spiked rollers e which throw the flaky material on the wire. The material is whirled around in a closed circuit comprising the passages h, k, l by means of a fan g. In the passage k two rollers i serve to disintegrate the mass of material, and in the passage l the material is taken up by spiked rollers f and delivered in a regular stream to the rollers e. The wire then passes round pulleys n to press the material on all sides and provide time for drying. Rotating brushes o remove surplus material which passes again into circulation by the fan g. A rotating device u consolidates the material on wire, which is then impregnated with bakelite &c. in the container p, smoothed in devices q<1>, q<2>. heated in a furnace r, smoothed again at q<3> and passed by way of the pulley s to a winding-on drum t.
