Abstract
A docking station 10 for a mobile telephone X with security includes a base member 12 for connection to a mobile telephone through which media can be downloaded, a first identification reader 15 on the base member for reading a first identification device 20,21 (e.g. chip and PIN card), a memory device 30 for storing media downloaded through the mobile telephone, the memory device having a second identification device 33 to be read by a second identification reader 16 on the base member, and means to allow media to be downloaded on the memory device when the first and second identification devices are read and a verification signal generated by e.g. reference to a PIN entered on the keyboard of the mobile phone. The docking station may include a screen 14 for displaying video.
Description
Title: Docking station For a Mobile Tekohone with Security The present invention relates to a docking station for a mobile telephone with security, especially with capabilities to download media through the mobile telephone.
According to the present invention there is provided a docking station for a mobile telephone with security comprising: a) a base member for connection to a mobile telephone through which media can be downloaded, b) a first identification device to be read by a first identification reader on the base member, c) a memory device for storing media downloaded through the mobile telephone, said memory device having a second identification device to be red by a second identification reader on the base member, d) means to allow media to be downloaded on the memory device when the first and second identification devices are read and a verification signal generated.
Preferably the first identification device is a card with chip and pin card, and the first identification reader is a pin and chip card reader.
Preferably the second identification device is a chip and pin on the memory device and the second identification reader is a chip and pin reader.
The docking station may further comprise a screen for displaying video.
The docking station base member may form part of a docking station with screen for mobile telephone as described in my co-pending application no. the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a docking station 10 for a mobile telephone X. Docking station 10 has a base member 12 with a recess 13 for receiving mobile telephone X, and a screen 14 which may be used to display images displayed on the mobile telephone screen. The docking station base member may fonn part of a docking station with screen for mobile telephone as described in my co-pending application no. the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference.
Base member 12 can be connected to mobile telephone X so media can be downloaded. This can occur either through 3G or 4G networks, through the internet, or through cable or satellite connections.
A first identification device is provided in the form of a chip and pin card 20 with a chip 21 similar to credit card. A first identification reader in the form of a card reader 15 is provided on the base member 12. When the card 20 is inserted into reader 22, a user can enter into a keyboard on the mobile telephone a PIN number to identiii a user.
A memory device in the form of a solid state memory plug 30 is provided for storing media downloaded through the mobile telephone. Plug 30 has a projection 31 with contacts 32 and a second identification device in the form of a chip and pin 33 which engages a socket 16 with a second identification chip and pin reader 16A on the base member 12. When the card plug 30 is inserted into socket, a user can enter into a keyboard on the mobile telephone a PIN number to identi& a user.
In order to media to be downloaded onto memory plug 30, both the card 20 and card reader 15 and plug 30 and reader 16A need to have identified a user. Once identified, the user can start to download media through the mobile telephone. If desired a catch may be provided to prevent the plug 30 from being withdrawn from socket 16 whilst media is being downloaded. A label area 34 may be provided to label the content of media downloaded onto the plug 30.
The use of both a card and chip and pin on the media storage plug helps ensure media is downloaded only to authorised persons.
It is envisaged for example that a user may subscribe to a media library and be issued with a card which can be personalised with a user's secret PIN. The media library will also issue the media storage plug 30 which can be personalised with a user's secret PIN. This gives double security to help prevent media being downloaded to an unauthorised person.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention. -4,
