Description

Title: Docking Station with Screen for Mobile Telephone The present invention relates to a docking station with screen for a mobile telephone.
According to the present invention there is provided a docking station with screen for a mobile telephone comprising: a) a base member having a recess to receive a mobile telephone, and b) a screen member connected to the base member having a first closed position to cover a mobile telephone in the recess, and at least one second position exposing the mobile telephone in the recess, in use said screen member being adapted to display images displayed on the mobile telephone screen.
Preferably the footprint of the screen member is substantially identical to the footprint of the base member and the screen member covers the base member when in the first closed position.
* Preferably the base member and screen member are substantially planar housings.
Preferably the base and screen members are substantially rectangular.
In one embodiment the screen slides relative to the base member from said first position to said second position and vice versa with the bottom of the screen member sliding adjacent the top of the base member. A pair of tracks may be provided in the bottom of the screen member or top of the base member which receives a pair of projections in the top of the base member or bottom of the screen. Releasable locking means may be provided to hold the screen member in the first or second position relative to the base member. The bottom of the base member may support a stand to angle the screen member relative to a surface on which the base member is placed.
In another embodiment the screen member is pivoted to the base member to adjust the angle of the screen member relative to the base member. The screen member may be pivoted to base member by a link member pivoted at one end to the back of the screen member and pivoted at an opposing end to the front of the base member. The link member may include friction pivots holding the screen member in any orientation relative to the base member. The link member may allow the screen member to pivot from facing one direction to facing an opposing direction. The screen member may include a gyro sensor to orientate images displayed on the screen in opposite directions as it pivots from facing one direction to facing an opposing direction.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure IA and lB show a first embodiment of the invention, and Figures 2A,2B and 2C show a second embodiment of the invention.
Referring to Figures IA and lB there is shown a docking station with screen 1 for a mobile telephone X. A base member 2 with a rectangular footprint is provided having a recess 3 to receive a mobile telephone X. A screen member 4 with a rectangular footprint, identical to the footprint of the base member 2, is connected to slide relative to the base member. Screen member 4 has a first closed position (see Figure IA) to cover a mobile telephone in the recess, and a one second position (see Figure 1B) exposing the mobile telephone in the recess. Screen member 4 is adapted to display images displayed on the mobile telephone screen. Screen member 4 covers the base member 2 when in the first closed position.
The base member 2 and screen member 4 are substantially planar housings.
The screen member 4 slides relative to the base member 2 from said first position to said second position and vice versa with the bottom 4A of the screen member 4 sliding adjacent the top 2A of the base member. A pair of tracks 5,6 provided in the bottom of the screen member (or top of the base member) which receives a pair of projections 7,8 in the top of the base member (or bottom of the screen). Releasable locking means such as a spring loaded ball and recess may be provided to hold the screen member in the first or second position relative to the base member.
The bottom of the base member may support a stand such as a pivot plate 9 to angle the screen member relative to a surface on which the base member is placed.
Referring to Figure 2A to 2C there is shown a docking station with screen 10 for a mobile telephone X. A base member 12 with a rectangular footprint is provided having a recess 13 to receive mobile telephone X. A screen member 14 with a rectangular footprint, identical to the footprint of the base member 2, is connected to pivot relative to the base member. Screen member 14 has a first closed position (see Figure 2A) to cover a mobile telephone X in the recess 13, and at least two second positions (see Figure lB and IC) exposing the mobile telephone in the recess. Screen member 14 is adapted to display images displayed on the mobile telephone screen. Screen member 14 covers the base member 12 when in the first closed position.
The base member 12 and screen member 14 are substantially planar housings.
Screen member 14 is pivoted to the base member 12 to adjust the angle of the screen member relative to the base member. The screen member 14 pivoted to base member 12 by a link member 15 pivoted at one end iSA to the back of the screen member 14 and pivoted at an
I
opposing end 15B to the front of the base member 12. The link member includes friction pivots holding the screen member in any orientation relative to the base member. The link member 15 allows the screen member to pivot from facing one direction (see Figure 2R) to facing an opposing direction (see Figure 2C). In the position shown in Figure 2C one person can view images on the screen on the phone X and another person can view images displayed on the screen member 14.
The screen member may include a gyro sensor to orientate images displayed on the screen in opposite directions as it pivots from facing one direction (Figure 213) to facing an opposing direction (Figure 2C) The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
