Abstract
A hand held device for threading a duvet cover into a quilt comprises a tube 1 with a front feeder head 2, 3 at one end for gripping textiles and a handle 5 and trigger 6 at the other end. The front feeder head 2, 3 may be movable against a stationary fixed tooth (8 fig. 5) at the end of a rod for gripping textiles by pulling the trigger 6 against spring pressure. The front feeder head 2, 3 may be rounded and bevelled. The device can also be used for other house chores such as dusting and cleaning in high and low places. Also it can reach the removal of moisture and condensation in kitchens, bathrooms and windows.
Description
Duvet/Quilt Threading/cleaning/ousting Device This invention is a hand held device primarily used for combating one of the most challenging and difficult, of household chores. That is replacing a quilt and duvet cover.
Most people do this chore on a weekly fortnightly, and even a monthly basis.
The most hardest part is, getting the corners of the duvet to the inside corners of the quilt cover, because the human arm is just not long enough to conquer this ongoing problem.
In figure 1 This is a hand held device is approximately 2ft long, an invention for allowing the human being to have that extra arm length to deal with the threading. Figures 4 -5 number 2 with its semi round design front feeder heads with piping bevelled edges that is kind to fingers, and also quilt friendly. That helps for easy gliding allowing a zero chance of causing any internal damage e.g. (rips) . In figures 1 -3 numbers 6,5 the device's handle has a quality design firm grip that you can still hold it firmly after the device trigger is released. It is also kind to people with long fingernails to prevent further damage.
In figure 1 The device comprises of a plastic tube 55cm long (diameter 21.5 mm). In figures 1 - 3 number 5 a plastic/resin handle that fixes neatly into the end of the plastic tube, with a 6mm bore.
Inserted is a spring (12mm x 57mm 1.2mm galvanized wire) In figures 1-3 number 6 is followed by the trigger in-cased in plastic/resin, also with a 6mm bore hole and a 3mm steel rod 52 cm with a 3cm 90-degree bend. In figures 1-2-4-5 number 4 the internal rod is attached to the front clamp bolt aluminium and plastic/resin and again with a 6mm bore. In figure 1-2-5 number 1-4-7 cut slots x2 either side 2cm -20mm. A self-tapping screw (with a plastic washer optional) is inserted through a cut slot 2cm run; to secure the trigger and give the front head feeder it's needed stability while grip and threading operations are taking place.
In figures 1-2-4-5 numbers 2,3 the plastic/resin front threaded heads have an opening feeder 20 mm x 50 mm for textiles. There are in two parts the upper and the lower part, where the clamp bolt is firmly attached to the aluminium supporters.
In figures 5 number B The final part is a 4mm steel rod 59cm with a plastic tooth firmly inserted at one end.
This is inserted through the 6mm bore right through all 55cm to the internal casing of the handle, and is secured with self-tapping screw (with a plastic washer optional) The device is also designed for easy assemble and unassembled.
The trigger is set for 2cm/2Omm clearance for operation.
How it works Figures 1-3 numbers 6 the trigger is squeezed against the retractable spring. In figures 5 number B The internal tooth/rod stays stationary, as the front feeder clamp is pulled back. Figure 2-5 Pushing the textile into the front internal crevice, this is where the grip action strength takes place.
This device is designed to handle all sizes of duvets, from single and double right up to king-size.
All thickness fron the thin summer tog 4.5 to medium 9.5 and the winter tog to 13.5 plus.
In figures 1-3 numbers 9 The device can also be easily stored away without taking up hardly any space in the home.
There are two options from the front feeder by a nail/hook on a wall into the internal crevice. Or second option by a hole in the handle for allowing a piece of string, and again a nail/hook.
This device has two methods of threading.
The first method is at the rear end of the bed.
Lay out the fresh quilt over the bed, followed by folding the duvet cover so all-corner are facing each other e.g. (like a square shape) . Then placed it onto the laid out quilt, and in half way inside. The next step is that the device is now ready to use, as you place the first duvet corner into the front opening feeder from the underneath the device, then by squeezing the trigger, placing it into the quilt. Then by aiming it for the first corner, and dragging the quilt across the arm. Rapidly gliding, whilst threading a duvet to it's corner location with ease. Release the trigger, and pull the device out. Then repeat process for the other side, followed by tucking in the rears then shake out the duvet, and press studs/buttons (on the duvet cover) if required to complete.
The second method can be used where beds are situated in confined and restricted areas where there is little surround space.
By adopting a different method, by the side of the bed place the duvet cover on the floor in a neat coil or ripple fashion with top corners facing upwards. As before the device is now ready to use, as you place the first duvet corner into the front opening feeder from the underneath the device, then by squeezing the trigger, placing it into the quilt. Then by aiming it for the first corner, and dragging the quilt across the arm.
Rapidly gliding, whilst threading a duvet to its corner location with ease. Placing it downwards across the bed then releasing the trigger, and pulling the device out. Simply repeat process for the other side, followed by gripping both threaded corners with hands and raising it above your head, in a shake down manner. Now all that is left to do is to tucking in the rears then simply place the duvet onto the bed, and press studs/ buttons if required to complete.
Note if there is enough space, you can adopt the first method.
There is however a small number of other devices available on the worldwide market such clips, internal buttons, laces, and also to add clips that attach to certain types of headboards. This method is the dragging down way. It can also lead to a number of difficulties during the replacing process. The first issue it will cause maximum crease up of the quilt cover to obtain the corner to corner. The second issue is that thicker duvet's, can lead to the whole quilt /duvet pulling away as the dragging down proceeds. Clips however can be used to combat this problem. Now comes the third issue that clips can be attached to headboards with certain types of designs to hold the clips for attachment.
The forth issue is with exclusive manufactures producing duvets and quilts equipped with internal laces and buttons etc, restricting the consumer's choice of any textile of design size and price.
With the consumer in possession of this device, will no doubt achieve cost savings with zero restrictions.
Cleaning/Dusting This device can also be used for another household chores other than bed threading.
That is dusting cleaning and the removal of condensation and moisture in the most hard to reach places of the home.
By simply placing a duster or water absorbing cloths through the opening feeder either end.
Now it can now reach the most difficult of high places such as walls wardrobes bookcases light fittings etc, where a lot of dust/cobwebs dwells.
Also can be used for removing of condensation and moisture, from bathrooms/kitchens tiles etc and inside and outside windows with the use of water absorbing cloths. The grip and strength of this device, achieves that cleaning process with an excellent effective results.
The use for chairs or stepladders, at times frequently can causes accidents. With U.K statistics show it can run into the hundreds even thousands each year. Serious falls are also caused by using substitutes, such as stepladders etc. Placing them in precarious positions around the home where space is sometimes very restricted. The use of chairs with weak legs etc, seem to attract the house-occupant who desires to reach up on a high shelf, with a sort of fatal lure. Its also known that middle-aged people seem to like to want to do, is to get up on a table.
This requires considerable acrobatic skill, even in a young person. For a middle-aged or elderly person to do it is a real feat, and unless one likes to run a definite risk of fracture or dislocation, or both, it should be avoided.
Standing on the ground, with this device achieving that 4ft arm extra length reach is by far a much safer option.
The device is very handy in lower areas also of the home where much dust settles over period of time. In awkward places e.g. such as the back of beds, and near electrical equipment such as T.V Hi-Fi and computers etc once again where much dust/cobwebs dwells over time. This can also prevent the straining of backs and pulled muscles etc to reach.
