Description

1 Description of Invention
1.1 Background
Global System for Mobile Communications -Railway (GSM-R) is an international wirclcss communications standard for railway communication and applications. A sub-system of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). This technology is used to communicate voice and data to the train drivers and now become Global System for Mobile communications for Railway radio system. This supports data rate up to 100kbps maximum. USM technology benefits from the economies of scale of its OSM technology heritage, aiming at being a cost efficient digital replacement for existing incompatible in-track cable and analogue railway radio networks.
British Network Rail is now implementing such technology in the UK. The British GSM-R rollout includes the whole of the rail network on the UK. In the UK, over 14,000km of GSM-R enabled railway is planned.
In UK there arc total around 8000 Train Cab comprising of approximately 78 vehicle classes, with various fleet sizes giving approximately 128 classes / Train Operating Companies (TOC) combinations. GSM-R cab radios are being installed in all Train classes.
Siemens has developed the Siemens SVR-401 mobile cab radio system. Multipulse is supplying installation kits to meet the requirements of the UK Railway market to install the GSM-R Radio, Handset, Driver Control Panel (DCP), Loudspeaker and UPS etc. The GSM-R Radio kits are under process for operation and commissioning.
During installation of GSM-R Radio and associated kits, it was found that in case of faulty GSM-R Radio, DCP, Handset, Loudspeaker and UPS, it was very much difficult to test and diagnose the causes of faults in the field. There was no as such diagnostic test unit/facility available to test these items/components in integrated form in the filed which was costing additional cost for no fault found. To overcome this problem in the field, Multipulse has designed a GSM-R Radio Test Unit which allows testing the operation, functionality and diagnoses the fault of the following GSM-R components: * GSM-Radio * Driver Control Panel * Handset * UPS * Loudspeaker
1.2 Statement of tnvention/Brief Summary
