Abstract

An Exhaust Baffle Insert to reduce the engine noise produced by vehicles through the exhaust system in a simple and convenient way. It works in a similar way to conventional exhaust baffles in that it uses a series of holes to interrupt the gas flow and attenuate the noise produced by combustion. This product can be installed or removed from the exhaust system by inserting into the exhaust tailpipe. The baffle does not require holes to be drilled in the exhaust and can be used as an add-on to OEM exhaust systems (for example sports cars) in motorsport and road applications. The product is inserted into the tailpipe so that an end flange abuts the end of the tail pipe with an optional gasket to preventing scratching of the tailpipe tip and is held in place with two compression screws that grip the inside wall of the tailpipe tip.

Description

Description
The exhaust baffle insert is a product that can be quickly and easily added or removed from the vehicle tailpipe using simple tools (such as a screwdriver, hex nut key or similar) and is designed to reduce vehicle exhaust noise without the need for holes to be drilled into the tailpipe.
Used as a quick and convenient method of reducing the noise level of a vehicle from the exhaust in order to comply with race circuit or road noise level restrictions. Intended for use in motorsport (competitive and non-competitive), road and other off-road purposes. The vehicle may be any type of vehicle with an internal combustion engine and exhaust system, but the product is primarily aimed at cars and motorcycles.
Can be used in race vehicles, trackday vehicles, rally vehicles, custom vehicles and other motorsport vehicles, road vehicles and off-road vehicles on race tracks, airfields, trackdays and other off-road applications. Can also be used on the road.
The product is inserted into the tailpipe (see typical drawing) and is fixed by adjusting the screws so that the inside wall of the tailpipe is gripped by the product (in contrast to using threads or screw holes in the tailpipe). Removal is the reverse of installation and the product may be used once or multiple times.

Claims (9)

Claims
1. Product is designed to fit inside tailpipe and reduce exhaust noise of a vehicle.
2. Product does not require holes to be drilled or be present in the tailpipe tip and is held in place by a compressing action to grip the tailpipe inner or outer wall (depending on application).
3. The fixing method may vary between different applications (eg by different tailpipe designs and sizes) and may use various methods to achieve grip of the tailpipe, (for example screws,
pressure plates, magnets, adhesives or by a combination of these or others)
4. The product may utilise the design and shape of the tailpipe depending on application to aid in the grip and fixing to the tailpipe, (for example screws to lips or contours of the tailpipe or by brackets outside the tailpipe)
5. The product may have an end flange in an orientation that is dependent on the specific application to prevent unwanted movement of the product.
6. A gasket can be used with the product optionally by the user to reduce the risk of scratching on the vehicle tailpipe.
7. Size and shape of the exhaust baffle insert is influenced by the size and shape of the tailpipe in each application, so may vary in each application.
8. The size, position and number of baffle holes may also vary in each application.
9. The material used for the product including any fixing materials, flanges and gaskets may vary in each application.
