Abstract

An endotracheal tube or tracheostomy tube with a side wall(s) and a distal end, the distal end is closed and the side wall has one or more apertures near the distal end of the tube which allows gases to flow through the tube and into the patient via these side apertures. The closed end prevents trauma that can occur during intubation or ventilation. The apertures may be oval shaped. The cross section of the tube may be circular proximate to the distal end and oval at the distal end i.e. tapered.

Description

DESCRIPTION
The new invention TNT endotracheal tube and the TNT tracheostomy tube, is a totally non traumatic, much saver, quicker and life saving new endotracheal tube and tracheostomy tube used for intubation and ventilation during General Anaesthesia (endotracheal tube) and tracheostomy tube as an alternative way of ventilation for certain condition. Both newly invented tubes have closed and smooth ends to prevent any trauma that's usually occurs during intubation or ventilation. The unique new invention is totally non traumatic due to closed end and in addition to their closed ends, there are two oval shaped holes with inward turned edges on either side just above the terminal ends of each of the said tubes for the delivery of the oxygenation and ventilation.
The reason for the closed ends of the TNT endotracheal tube and TNT tracheostomy tube were order to protect the mucosa or lining of the upper aerodigestive passages, (in case of endotracheal tube) or the tracheal wall (in case of the tracheotomy tube) which usually traumatised, through which the endotracheal tube pass through without creating any damages to the mucosal lining of any structure.
The damage to the upper aerodigestive tract caused by nearly all currently used endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes which is not the case in the TNT tubes. In addition the risk of blockage of the said invention is much less than the current one. The comfort, speed and safety of intubation is far much better in the TNT endotracheal tube than the currently used tubes.
The shape of both tube(endotracheal or tracheotomy tubes) and the materials used in this new tubes is the same like any other currently used tubes accept the following fundamental differences and as follows:
1- The terminal end is closed (Fig. 1) and not open like the current tubes in order to avoid any trauma to the lining of the upper aerodigestive tract or tracheal wall.
2- The diameter of the last 3 cm of the terminal ends of both endotracheal or tracheotomy tubes are 2-3mm less diameter less than the current used tubes(fig. 2) for easy passing through the nose in case of using the nasal intubation or through the space between vocal in case using the oral intubations.
1
3- The last 3 cm of the terminal ends have two oval shaped holes on either side of the terminal ends(Fig.3) The lower edge of each hole are about 5mm proximal from the very end of the distal end. The longitudinal axis of the hole is approximately 0.5-1.5 cm (depending on the size of the tube). The transverse axis is about 0.4-lcm ( depending on the size of the tube).
4- The two oval shaped holes on either side of the terminal ends(Fig.3) is for the standard delivery of oxygenation or ventilation for the maintaining of the breaching during the General Anaesthesia.
5- The edges of each of the oval shaped holes on either sides of the endotracheal or tracheostomy tubes is bevelled, smooth with tuned in edges in order to maximized the prevention of any trauma when the tubes passed through the upper aerodigestive tract during the intubation.
6- The tubes will have different sizes depending on the age of the patient that need to have the intubation according to the standard sizes already being in practice internationally for all the currently used endotracheal or tracheostomy tubes.
7- The area below the oval holes is closed to prevent any air entrapment, in this way the air or oxygenation passing down the tube will pass directly through the oval shaped boles without reaching the terminal end because it is closed area up to the lower edge of the holes.
8- The diameter of the of the endotracheal or tracheostomy tube in the last 5cm of the terminal end (in case of endotracheal) or last 3cm (in case of tracheostomy tube) will change from circular to oval shape (Fig. 3).
9- The entire inside edges of each oval shaped holes on either side at the distal end of the tube( fig.2) are turned inside to become very smooth in order not to cause any injury when it come in contact with the lining of the upper aerodugestive tract during intubation.
10-The exit of the oxygenation, aesthetic gases and the whole ventilation during the spontaneous or he artificial ventilation will be only through the oval shaped side holes because terminal end is closed. The closed terminal end will not affect the ventilation at all because the two side way oval shaped hole will direct the ventilation out side the tube in almost vertical direction down the trachea and straight to the carina due to the obliquity of the direction of the holes in down ward direction.
2
11-The total size of the two oval shaped hole just above the terminal ends is almost equal or slightly larger in diameter of its counter part terminal hole in the currently standard endotracheal tracheostomy tube use in intubation. In this way the closure of the terminal end in both the TNT endotracheal tube and the TNT tracheostomy tube will not affect the current of the ventilation passing through the newly invented tubes.

Claims (1)

1- The new invention , the Non-Traumatic Endotracheal & tracheostomy tubes are a uniquely invented endotracheal tubes which are life saving, totally non traumatic in the professional hands due to the close end of the said tubes.
2- It is the first time in the history of General Anaesthesia and since the invention of the endotracheal or tracheostomy tube, THERE IS NOW A NEW INVENTION with closed ends Endotracheal & tracheostomy tubes.
3- The new said invention have much less risk of blockage of the tube by thick secretions or blood clot because there is two holes for ventilation in the TNT endotracheal or TNT Tracheostomy tubes rather than one hole in all the currently in practice the endotracheal and Tracheostomy tubes.
4- The new invention will save life of the patients from the risk of blockage of the tube and will ease the delivery of the ventilation.
5- The cost of the TNT endotracheal or TNT Tracheostomy tubes is the same cost of any currently used the endotracheal and Tracheostomy tubes.
6- The new invention will make intubation easier, saver and faster.
