Abstract

A relay solar switch 1 has a housing 8 and a solar panel 10 to provide power to a low voltage converter and storage capacitor. A switch 26 is used to power on or off a receiver 2 in a receiver unit 6. Transmitter 4 sends a confirmation signal back to housing 8 to activate an LED 12 or a motor to act as confirmation to a user. The switch 26 may be replaced with a card reader.

Description

1
Relay Solar Switch
A Relay Solar switch device and method, the present invention relates in general to a radio transceiver powered by a Solar cell/panel fitted into a wall mounted or portable switchable device that opperates in a wireless manor and the switch will confirm a radio-signal has been achieved by activation of an LED or a vibrating electronic motor from a receiver unit.
Battery and mains powered wall and portable switches are well known and are used in a variety of applications such as home automation. It is our intention to have a switch that also lights or vibrate when you activate the switch.
The Aim of the present invention is to have a transciever fitted in a switch and the switch is to have a Solar panel that send power to the altra-low DC/DC converter and a storage capacitor provides power when the unput voltage source is unavailable, this transciever will confirm a radio-signal has been sent to a receiver-unit and activation has been achieved by having the housing flash with an LED or vibrate to confirm the activation. Where the wireless communication is employed, the wireless communication is selected from SMS, GSM, GPRS,SRD(short range devices), low power radio, infa-red or bluetooth communication.
According to the first aspect of the present invention there is provided a transciever fitted inside a plastic or metel housing, which is wall mounted of portable, the transciever is powered by a Solar panel, preferably the panel is fitted on the housing of the switch or onto the rocker switch or onto a see through plastic switch cover.
The switch will store energy using a super capacitor when the input voltage source is unavailable. The Solar panel will top up energy to be stored in the capacitor and discharged when the switch is activated, this in turn will send a radio-signal to a reciever-unit, the aim of the invention is to have the reciever-unit confirm activation by returning a radio-signal back to the switch (this is called a hand shake)
The transciever in the wall or portable switch is designed to activate an LED light mounted on the housing, this will happen as a signal from a reciever-unit is sent back to the tranciever in the housing, for instance the switch can be some distance from the reciever-unit and the LED will give you coformation that the activation has taken place.
The present invention therefore provides conformation to a wall or portable switch that the radio-signal has activated wirelessly and remotely using Energy Harvesting Solar power.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a miniture electric motor fitted into the housing. The motor is arranged fitted whith an offset disc, when the switch recieves conformation of activation of the reciever-unit the motor will activate and rotate, this will cause the housing to vibrate for a short period of time, this is used for yet another conformation that
2
the radio-signal has been achieved.
According the a third asspect of the invention, there is provided a wall mounted card reader switch, when a card is plased in the switch it will activate a radio-signal to a receiver-unit and once again an LED or motor will activate on the housing, this in turn confirms activation of the receiver-unit.
The invention is for the Domestic and industrial applications and explaining the embodyment of the present invention in detail, is to be understood that the invention is not limited to its applications since the invention is capable of other embodyments. Also terminology used herin is for purpose of discription and not limited.
REFERRING TO FIG 1, a relay solar switch 1 according to a first, embodyment of the present invention comprises a housing 8 Solar panel 10 is to power the low voltage converter and capacitor(not shown). On the housing is a switch 26 that is used to power on or off the receiver 2 in the receiver-unit 6 transmitter 4 is to send signal back to housing 8 to activate LED 12 or motor (not shown) to confirm. Power line 14 is the power into the receiver-unit and power line 16 is the radio control side of the receiver-unit, where the communication is by wireless means the medium of communication can be SMS, GSM,GPRS,SRD(Short Range Devices), Low power Radio, Infa-Red, or Bluetooth communication. An internal power supply such as a battery(not Shown) is connected to the receiver-unit to be used when there is a power break and can power for sum days. The receiver-unit is a programmable microprocessor and can comprise a Random Acces Memory(RAM) and none-volatile memory. The programmable microprcessor can be programed prier to use to carry out a number of predetermined tasks or can be updated through the transciever switch from a gateway application sending a mesage to the switch as a relay point.
REFERRING TO FIG 2, a relay Solar card reader switch 2 according to a second, embodyment of the present invention comprises a housing 8 with a protruding slot with a Solar panel 10 fitted, this is for a card 24 to fit into, when the card 24 is placed inside the slot the housing 8 will transmit a signal to the receiver-unit 6 in turn the transmitter 4 will send a radio-signal back to housing 8 and the LED Iightl2 will flash for a period of time to confirm activation of the receiver-unit 8.
REFERRING TO FIG 3, a relay Solar switch and card reader 3 according to a third. Embodyment of the present invention comprises a receiver-unit 8 fitted on top of a valve assembly 20, 22 is a cover cap for the Receiver-unit 8 this can be any given valve such as ball valves and Solenoid valves, on an electronic activation of a valve 20 the valve closes or opens and a signal is sent from the transmitter 4 back to the housing 8 and the LED light 12 will flash for a period of time to confirm activation of the receiver-unit 8. The valve can also be wirelessly remotely operated and able to transmit a signal to the housing 8 (Not shown) in Figl,Fig2, Fig3.
No doubt many other affective alternatives will accur to the purson skilled in the art lying within the spirit and scope of the claims appended hereto.
