Abstract
An umbrella uses a system of overlapping leaves (1, 2) that allow air to pass between the leaves (1, 2), thus providing a greater resistance to wind while still protecting the user from rain. The umbrella may fold away as is normal for umbrellas, or in an alternative embodiment the leaves may not fold down, but may instead be twisted around the trunk (3, fig.5) in order to store the umbrella (fig. 5). The leaves (1, 2) may be attached to adjacent leaves to prevent them moving in the wind. In yet another embodiment the leaves (1, 2) are attached to the frame, as opposed to the trunk (fig.7). Alternatively the umbrella may have a canopy with wind-holes that allow wind through the canopy (see fig. 10), with leaves (17, fig.10) attached underneath the holes (16, fig. 10).
Description
Umbrella
DESCRIPTION
Background
* Umbrellas prevent rain and sun and some wind from affecting the user as much as without an umbrela. This is mainly shelter from rain. They could also be used as shelter from other materials.
* They are, however, prone to getting caught in the wind.
* This either deforms them temporarily or permanently, or at least causes inconvenience for the user.
* This patent aims to avoid this problem to a far greater degree than any current designs or patents can.
Statement Of Invention
* The nvention is an umbrella with multipe overlappng leaves * This allows wind through, but no direct rain to penetrate Advantages * The user is not pulled around as much by wind * The umbrella will not break or deform as easHy, since wind can go between gaps in leaves.
* Preferably, the umbrella would still be able to fold away as in prior umbrelas.
* Preferably, the umbrella will not cost a lot more to produce * Preferably, the umbrella will still be able to fold away conveniently * Preferably, the umbrella will still be light-weight * Preferably, the umbrella can be made of similar materials to prior umbrellas * Preferably the umbrella wil have at east 3 leaves per row, and 2 or more rows.

Detailed Description
Multiple leaves, including top leaves 1 and bottom leaves 2 are attached to a trunk 3.
There are at least two top leaves 1 on the top layer, so that wind 7 may pass between the leaves.
The leaves should overlap each other in order to prevent direct rain! sunlight! wind penetration to the user.
The next layer of leaves, is composed of bottom leaves 2, which overlap each other and are overlapped by the top leaves 1.
The radius of the top leaves 1, distance 9, cannot be greater fhan fhe distance 10 in fhe bottom leaves 2, in order fo prevenf rain penetration.
There are veins 5 on the leaves that are used to push them open, as in most folding umbrellas.
These are linked by cross-struts 11 as shown in figure 2b and 3b.
An arrangement of two leaves is the simplest form of the new invention.
This could be in the form of just two top leaves.
This could also be in the form of one top leaf and one bottom leaf, where the top leaf overlaps the bottom leaf. This would mean just one 360 degrees top leaf and one 360 degrees bottom leaf.
A second embodiment of the umbrella would use sturdy vens that do not alow the leaves or umbrella to fold down. These would be able to stand stronger winds. The leaves are attached by o' rings S that can be twisted around to store the umbrella. A catch of some type would be needed to stop the leaves moving when in use.
Figure 7 shows a third embodiment, a stationary umbrella. This has leaves 13, much as described above. They are, however, attached to a frame 14 on the umbrella.
The leaves are ony attached on their top sides, so are free to move a little to alow wind through.
Figure 8 shows top leaves 1 that are attached to each other, by sewing, glue, string, elastic, or another mechansm 14. FigureS shows how tope leaves 1 and bottom leaves 2 can be attached together, again by mechanism 14.
A fourth embodiment is shown in figure 10, where a one-canopy umbrella 15 has wind-holes cuf in 16, and has leaves attached underneath 17, which allow wind and rain to be directed to the outside of fhe umbrella.
Claims (1)
- <claim-text>UmbrellaCLAIMS1. An umbrella that uses multipe overlappng leaves, rather than one canopy, and so allows wind through it, which means it will not deform or break as easily as prior art in hgh winds.</claim-text> <claim-text>2. An umbrella as in caim 1, where the leaves are somehow fixed to adjacent leaves and! or the frame beneath via any method or mechanism to prevent them moving around too much.</claim-text> <claim-text>3. An umbrella as in caims 1 and 2, that can utilize almost exacty the same frames, materials, handles, opening mechanisms as prior umbrellas, apart from having multiple leaves, and any associated fixings.</claim-text> <claim-text>4. An umbrella as in caim 3, where the vens are no different to prior umbrellas, thus allowing unaltered current opening mechanisms to be used.</claim-text> <claim-text>5. A second embodiment is an umbrella, according to claim 1 or claim 2, where leaves and! cr veins can be fixed and sturdy, so that they do not fold down, giving them more strength 6. An umbrella according to clam 2, where the leaves and veins are attached to the trunk by 0 rings, that allow the leaves to move round for more convenient storage, and can be locked in place when umbrela is in use.7. A third embodiment is an umbrella according to claim 1, where the leaves are fixed directly to a frame underneath, that can be retractable, or can be completely fixed so that the umbrella cannot be folded away for storage.8. An umbrella as in caim 1, which uses one canopy on top, wth wind-holes in it, and leaves underneath the holes to prevent rain water getting onto the user, and to direct this rain to the outside rim of the umbrella.</claim-text>
