Abstract
A spray plate assembly having a plurality of outlets to allow water to exit, each individual outlet 5, 6 having a venturi configuration in association with an air inlet 7 so that in use each outlet performs its own aspiration to aerate the outgoing water. Preferably, a venturi cover plate (2, figure 2) is mounted on the front of the spray plate (3, figure 2) to form the venturi chamber and to define the air inlets 7 for the individual water outlet holes 5, 6. The venturi chamber will be provided with holes 4 to admit air. The cover plate may be connected to the spray plate by a screw, although in other cases, the cover plate may not necessarily be a separate unit to the spray plate.
Description
DESCRTPTION
VENTURI SPRAY PLATE
This invention relates to venturi spray heads for use with showers which add air to the outgoing water.
Current designs of venturi shower heads are constructed in such a way that air is introduced into the shower head by an individual venturi and then mixed with the water. This water/air mix is then sent to the aperturcs of the spray plate.
The performance of this type of venturi shower head is dependent on a consistent mix of water/air being created and thus being shared equally by each aperture. This is unreliable and therefore creates an erratic spray (pulsing) and a low potential energy.
It is an objcct of this invention to improve the performance by adding air independently to each aperture which means a more consistent spray with more energy.
This patent is most effective when the shower head is used in conjunction with an instantaneous electric shower. Present designs are not suitable for instantaneous electric showers.
An instantaneous electric shower needs to operate between flow rates of 3 -8 I/mm depending on the incoming water temperature. In order for the conventional venturi shower head to work effectively at 3 Vmin the venturi/apertures must be designed to deal with such little water. When the shower is subsequently changed to flow 8 Llmin the same venturi/apertures are unable to cope with extra volume and therefore the water back feeds and exits through the main venturi hole.
This also means that the conventional venturi system cannot be used with a shower head with a variable spray plate. The same problem will occur when the spray plate is adjusted to reduce the flow. The water will back feed and exit through the main venturi hole.
This patent design will deal with changes in flow as the air is added from down stream of the water and thus will give a consistent performance independent of the flow rate.
Below is an explanation ofthe function of this patent. Sec Figures 1, 2 & 3.
The spray plate assembly consists of spray plate 3 and venturi cover 2 (Fig 2).
In this example the 2 parts are eoimected together and to a main shower head body by means of a screw through aperture 10 (Fig 2). This is not critical to the patent and various other fixations / shower head bodies can be used.
The water travels through the spray plate apertures 1 (Fig 1). The apertures can be seen in Fig 3 (item 5 and item 6). As the water accelerates through the apertures a venturi effect (known technology) is created and air is sucked into the water path through air venturi gap 7 (Fig 3). The air enters the chamber 8 via inlets 4 (Fig 3).
Each aperture has its own venturi and therefore the Ibliowing benefits are achieved: 1. Each aperture has a constant feed of air so the spray has a constant feel' and optimum fbrce.
2. The performance of each spray is independent and therefbre is not affected by changes in flow to the plates or by various combinations of the spray plate apertures being closed.
