Abstract
A carrom piece setting aid comprises a generally annular frame or rack defining an interior hexagonal space. The aid is placed on a carrom table surface (not shown), and the pieces are placed in the hexagonal space in order to correctly set the pieces prior to commencement of a game. The edges of the frame defining the interior space may be scalloped or otherwise formed to assist in setting the pieces (see figure 6A). The frame may be in two parts to facilitate removal of the frame when the pieces are set (see figure 4). The parts may be connected by a hinge (see figure 5). The outer edge of the annular frame may be hexagonal or circular (see figure 6). The frame may include guide line markings (not shown) to assist in aligning the frame with the corners of the carrom table.
Description
I
Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
In the board game known as carrom (and for other similar games), three different coloured 19 round pieces known as carrom men or carrom pieces (similar to drafts game pieces) (also known as cookies) need to be set in the centre of the board in a particular circular formation. This particular formation shall be referred to as "carrom formation" -See Fig 1. The more accurately the carrom pieces are placed and set in the carrom formation the more accurate is the start of the game. Ideally the pieces need to be in a perfect carrom formation, where all the pieces need to be touching and this circular' formation needs to be precisely orientated (in the preferred direction) to make a good start to the game.
It is difficult to accurately place carrom pieces or other game pieces or other round objects, by hand in carrom formation, with all pieces touching and correctly orientated. This invention will help to overcome this difficulty.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes Hexi with its internal hexagonal form to accurately place round shaped objects, carrom pieces, in carrom formation and easily move and orientate the formation to desired position.
Am example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Fig 1 shows the positioning of the carrom pieces, which are placed at the centre of the carrom game board. This is referred to as the "Carrom Formation" throughout this application.
* . . Fig 2 shows the very basic form of Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
Fig 3 shows how the carrom formation will be held by the Carrom Pieces Seing Aid. * * .
Fig 4 shows how the split version, or the double open ended version, of very basic form of Carrorn Pieces Setting Aid will work.
: . Fig S shows hinged version of the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid providing a single open end.
Fig SA shows the taped hinge of single open end Carroni Pieces Setting Aid.
Fig 6 shows the curved outer shape to a Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
Fig 6A shows how internal hexagon could have carrom pieces shapes indented into it.
Fig 7 shows circular version of Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
FigS is plan view of the use of circular Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
Carrom Pieces Setting Aid works by aiding the setting up process of carrom pieces at the start of the game by providing a hexagonal boundary within which the player places carrom pieces.
Originally, a player will place carrom pieces in the carrom formation without any supporting boundary. The problem is that it is near impossible to accurately manoeuvre the pieces and keep all the pieces still touching. Using the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid, a player can conveniently place carrom pieces in the carrom formation and accurately orientate the formation, to desired position, whilst still maintaining carrom formation in tact The Carrom Pieces Setting Aid can be made with any suitable material which will maintain the inner hexagonal boundary and it can even have guide-lines drawn on it for even more accuracy of pointing the carrom formation into the corners of the game board.
The outer shape of the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid can be any shape (e.g. circle etc -see Fig 6) as long as the inner shape is hexagonal.
Note: Carrom Pieces Setting Aid can be used in other games and situation too, where same or similar formations are required.
Note: Carrom pieces are also known as carrom men and cookies.
Hexi will operate in different ways including: 1. Single Section (see Fig 2) will require careful lifting to remove the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid * * 2. Split Section (see Fig4) will require to be pulled apart when pieces are set in place. A simple mechanism will keep the two sections aligned -e.g. such as dowel and matching hole or guiding lip.
3. Hinged (see Fig S & 5A) works by separating the opening end to remove the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid when ready to commence the game. Note: the hinge could be a simple sticky tape.
* 4. Springed End (see Fig 6) pushes to keep opening end open. So it works by *". : pinching the springed ends together to set the carrom pieces in position * " and release the pressure so remove the Carrom Pieces Setting Aid.
5. Mechanical. More advanced version could be one where all the straight edges can move simultaneously (e.g. as in camera shutter action) so that a single such Carroni Pieces Setting Aid can be used with different sized carrom pieces. Basically, a universal size.
6. Handles -Carrom Pieces Setting Aid can have small handles to hold and use to lift or move it.
Other version Carroni Pieces Setting Aid is to have curved or other shapes incorporated into edges of the hexagonal shape to incorporate the circular or other shaped pieces. See Fig 6 and GA. * * * * * 0** * * . . ** a * . *. * * * *.
