Abstract

A camping hammock C comprises a full zippered bug net to protect the user from biting insects. The net may be fully removed and stowed, preferably in a pocket provided on the hammock. With the net removed the hammock may be utilised in any configuration, such as a chair or lounger. The hammock also incorporates a foot sag area to maximise comfort and eliminate lower leg pressure. The foot sag area is adjustable by means of an adjustment cord B. An internal ridgeline cord connected between the two gathered points of the hammock helps to keep the bug net taught and away from the user.

Description

Camping hammock with bug netting This invention relates to a camping hammock.
Hammocks are available with or without bug netting worldwide however both have there limitations regarding use, those without a net are able to be used as chairs or loungers as well as a hammock but without bug netting they are not ideal for sleeping whilst in the seasons where insects are liable to attack the occupant Hammocks with built in bug netting protect the occupant from biting insects however they loose the versatility of being a chair or lounger because the occupant is restricted by the net.
When laying in a traditional hammock it is advised to sleep diagonally to enable the occupant to acquire a flat sleep, the weight of the body displaces the hammock material on the diagonal in such a way that you are able to sleep much flatter than if you lay straight from end to end. This method of sleeping albeit much flatter than laying straight is not without pressure to the body in particular the lower legs, due to there mass being less than that of the torso, this causes pressure to the back of the knees and calves.
By incorporating a hammock with a bug net that is full removable by way of a 2 way zipper we have enabled the occupant to be able to use the hammock in the same way as a hammock without a net and also be able to fully enclose the hammock to protect the occupant from insects.
We have also added in a foot sag area, by using this the occupant is able to set the foot sag using the adjustment cord to ensure that the pressure imparted on there lower legs is removed and is taken up by the adjuster cord. This is an improvement on an other available option because it is adjustable and removable by use of a cord, in the past the foot sag area has been achieved by sewing in a triangular piece of fabric to create a foot box.
The invention will now be described with the aid of reference to drawings.

Figure? -A side view of the hammock showing the location of the adjustment cords and the occupant's feet.
A camping hammock for use as a 4 season sleeping hammock for 1 occupant, Constructed with one or two layers of hammock material (C)(dependant on occupant weight) that has a fully zippered Bug netting around the edge (C) . The net can be fully unzipped and the net can be stored in a small over head net bag located at the gather in the fabric.
The dimensions of the hammock measure 300cm x 160cm, the ends of which are gathered by using a Scm sewn channel at each end with a length of cord passed through and pulled tight producing a knot/ball of fabric at each end.
The hammock has an adjustable and fully removable foot sag adiuster, that is connected by grosgrain loops sewn into the edge of the hammock fabric situated at the foot end gather (A) and halt way along the hammock material(D), joining these loops is a 1.Sm length of a dyneema high strength cord known as the adjuster cord(B).
The occupant of the hammock can adjust the length of the cord (B) to set the sag in the foot area to maximise comfort and eliminate lower leg pressure by shortening or lengthening the cord, if the hammock is to be used with the bug net fully removed and stowed in the net bag then the foot sag adjustment cord can be removed at point (0) to allow the hammock to be used as a chair/lounger or any other configuration that is not possible with the bug netting and adjustment cord deployed.
Having an adjustable foot sag area removes such problems as calf strain and tension around the legs that are common place with other hammock designs. The foot sag area also allows the occupant to sleep on a diagonal ensuring that they in fact sleep completely flat.
The hammock is designed in such a way that the bug netting is kept taught without the use of tie out points, all the hammock needs is an occupant laying in the diagonal position and the net will be taught and away from the body, this is aided by an internal ridgeline cord being connected between the two gathered points of the hammock (G) at a length of 247cm.
