Abstract
249,326. Randall, J. April 2, 1925. Opening by cutting.-Relates to means for removing by means of compressed air the contents of tinned meat or like tins. After removal of one end of the tin a piercer a, having air outlets b and mounted at the end of a cylindrical member c is forced through the opposite end, a tightjoint being made by means of an indiarubber or like cup washer e. Inward movement of a piston j sliding within the member c causes air to be forced through a port p in the partition l and through outlets b, to expel the contents of the tin. In the construction shown the piercer a contains a spring-controlled non- return ball valve, but according to a modification this, and the port in the partition are dispensed with, and a hollow piston rod provided with ports in communication with the compression chamber m and opening into the chamber n through a non-return valve is substituted. The device may be fitted with a tin opener comprising a cutter r and guide s secured to a detachable annular bracket u.
