Abstract

A liquid level measuring device which may be used to measure the water level in a caravan drinking water container comprises a wand 1 which may have a number of exposed contacts 2 along its length and one at its base (3). An alternative may comprise contacts arranged around the wand. A remote indicator 7 may be wired to the wand 1 using a multi core cable to socket 5 and plug 4. The remote indicator panel may comprise a numbers of LEDs 8 or other display means.

Description

DESCRIPTION
TITLE WATER WAND -WATER LEVEL MEASURING EQUIPMENT
This equipment enables a user to view the level of liquid in a container from a remotely positioned indicator panel.
The equipment comprises a sensor tube, hereafter called Water Wand' and a remote indicator panel.
When caravanning most people use opaque drinking water containers which don't allow the user to view the water level in the container without looking through the filler hole.
The use of the Water Wand allows the level of liquid in a container to be shown on a remote panel, through the use of Le.d.s, a digital readout or a signal strength meter with a moving needle.
When the Water Wand is fully immersed in the water, the indicator panel shows that the container is full. As the water level falls the changing level in the container is shown on the remote indicator panel.
The circuit is powered by 12 volts, wired directly into a vehicle's low voltage supply or through the use of its own low voltage batter pack, contained within the indicator panel
INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGS
Fig. I shows the Water Wand and plug with a connecting socket for under-floor mounting to allow the Water Wand to be disconnected and an indicator unit.
Fig. 2 shows the Water Wand in the water container through the filler hole 11 and how l.e.d.s would indicate water level in the container by lighting up 8.
In Fig. 1, a plastic tube (the Water Wand) has a number of exposed contacts along its length 2 and one at its base 3. These contacts are connected by a length of flexible multi-core cable to a multi-pin plug 4.
A socket 5 is located outside, alongside the vehicle drinking water inlet point.
This socket housed in a below floor mounting 6 matches the plug on the Water Wand 4.
The remote indicator 7 in a standard surface mount box is wired using multi core cable to the external socket 5.
In Fig. 2, the water wand is immersed in the water through the filler hole 11 alongside the water outlet pipe 10. The contacts 2 make a circuit with the common contact at the base as they are immersed and send a current to the indicator panel 7.
On the remote indicator panel, a corresponding number of l.e.d.s are illuminated 8 to show how far up the Water Wand the water reaches. This panel could have a digital readout or a signal strength meter with a moving needle.
Fig. 3 shows a Water Wand with contacts around the wand as rings as an alternative arrangement to that shown in the Water Wand Fig.1 and Fig.4.
Fig. 4 shows a Water Wand with contacts inside the tube and a larger hole at the base and at the top to allow the water to gain access to the enclosed contacts as an alternative arrangement to Fig.3 and Fig.1.

Claims (1)

  1. <claim-text>CLAIMS1. A water level measuring device that can relay a varying level of water in a container to a remote indicator.</claim-text> <claim-text>2. A water level device that can be manufactured shorter, or longer, according to the depth of the water container in which the device is to be used.</claim-text> <claim-text>3. The water level measuring device can be used by wiring the Water Wand permanently and directly to the remote indicator.</claim-text> <claim-text>4. With the use of the multi-pin plug and socket the Water Wand can be detached and re-attached to allow storage when not in use.</claim-text> <claim-text>5. The water level measuring device will operate from its own low-voltage battery supply or be wired directly into an external 12 volt supply.</claim-text> <claim-text>6. The Water Wand is made from food grade material.</claim-text> <claim-text>7. The Water Wand can relay a current to enable a read-out on the remote indicator in the form of an l.e.d. display, a digital display or by using a signal strength meter with a moving needle indicator.</claim-text> <claim-text>8. The Water Wand and indicator unit are for portable or fixed use or a combination of both, e.g. the Water Wand portable with the indicator unit fixed.</claim-text> <claim-text>9. The Water Wand could have contacts on the surface along the length of the wand, radially like rings, or inside the Water Wand.</claim-text> <claim-text>10. The Water Wand will work with a range of liquids as long as the liquids are not harmful to the materials used in the construction of the Water Wand and conduct electricity to enable a circuit to be made between the common contact and other contacts on the wand.</claim-text>
