Abstract
A wireless device (10, Fig. 1) has at least a first radio system RADIO_A (20, Fig. 1) for a first SIM channel SIM_A and a second radio system RADIO_B (30, Fig. 1) for a second SIM channel SIM_B. A processing system (40, Fig. 1) is arranged to determine whether a first of the first and second radio systems is capable of providing service for both of the first and second SIM channels currently being serviced by the first and second radio systems respectively. Servicing of the second SIM channel is transferred from the second radio system to the first radio system if it is determined that the first radio system is capable of providing service for both of first and second SIM channels. At least a part of the second radio system is shut down to reduce the power consumed by the second radio system after servicing of the second SIM channel has been transferred 230. The transferring of servicing the second SIM channel from the second radio system to the first radio system may comprise transferring a SIM context from the second radio system to the first radio system 220. The second radio system may be resumed when it is determined that the first radio system is incapable of providing service for both of the first and second SIM channels, e.g. when an active voice or data call is started on either of the channels. One embodiment comprises using one radio system of the wireless device to provide functionality for two SIM channels when the SIM channels are each in an idle state 200 and the one radio system is capable of handling two idle channels 210. The arrangement may also be used in a multi-SIM device as well as a dual-SIM device.
