Abstract
A foam generator comprising an enclosure 1 having a first end 2 through which foam exits the enclosure and a second end through which a foam solution 4 and a gas 6 are introduced into the enclosure. A manifold 7 is located within the enclosure and provides the means into which gas is introduced into the enclosure. The manifold has at least one gas inlet and at least one gas outlet. The gas outlet(s) from the manifold are directed away from the first end of the enclosure, in order to cause turbulent flow of the gas within the enclosure. The manifold is preferably a perforated drum. The foam generator can be used to produce foam with an expansion factor of at least 250:1 which can be used to euthanize livestock. Livestock to be treated are held in a restricted space and covered with a blanket of said foam.
