Abstract

The prevention of individuals holding onto the outside of a tram door. In particular a strip is fitted to the door edge to fill an existing gap when the door closes and this prevents people holding onto the door edge as the tram moves. The strip is made from UV resistant, fire retardant plastic and is of varying length, 40mm wide having a curved surface and a return ribbed leg 3 to 12mm and may have holes in the ribbed return leg to accelerate the curing process when the strip is adhered to a tram door.

Description

-Plastic-pvc strip that is used. to-prevent individuals holding onto outside of tram doors.
Field of invention
This strip-flhls-the-gap;between-thedoor and the-frame of-the-tram.
Background to the invention
to Therehas;been;highlighted a-problemlately-ofpeople-holding-onto.the outside of trams, not only in the UK but all over Europe. This is known as tram surfing.
This-is.wherepeopleplacetheirfingers:in.the.gap.of.the. doors-and standon. the step and hold on as the tram moves. This strip seals the gap and prevents people -from holding on and eliminates tram surfing.
IS This is especially important as people have fallen off whilst doing this and been injured.
Statement of invention
c This strip of length 2.2 metres approx. with a width of 40mm with a ribbed return leg of between 3-12mm running the length of the strip. This return leg has optional holes drilled approx scm apart. The 40mm front section has a curved shape.
The advantages of this strip is that it seals the gap on the tram door to prevent ic tram surfing.
Its unique features are as follows: Its curved shape coupled with its return leg allows it to be fitted to all tram doors which have varying gap sizes. Also because of the curved shape of the strip coupled with the return leg takes into account the lip at the edge of the tram door and it creates a flush finish. The optional holes on the return leg accelerate the curing process of the adhesive and creates a stronger bond. The material has also been tested to a fire rated standard for the rail industry is UV rated for outdoor use.
Brief descriøtion of drawings O The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description, given by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows profile view of the strip.
Figure 2 shows a 3D perspective view of the strip.
Figure 3 shows a front view of the strip.
Figure 4 shows a rear view of the strip.
Detailed description
S Referring now to the drawings and initially to figure 1 this shows a profile section of the strip with the ribbed return leg coming out from the rear of the strip to a height of approx 5mm. It also shows the slight curve of the strip.
Figure 2 shows the 3D perspective of the strip which shows the optional holes along the length of the return leg which will aid bonding to the tram door.
