Abstract

A cat or small dog feeding unit specifically designed to assist pet owners who have limited mobility or are unable to bend down to place food or water on the floor, comprises a stand containing a choice of bowls which fit depressions in a bowl holder, and an extension handle to aid safe lifting. The unit is designed to overcome these problems and at the same time keep the feeding area free from hazards caused by spillage. Good hygiene can be maintained by the unit which prevents the animal being given access to food preparation surfaces. The unit may be affordably made without compromising appearance or function.

Description

Tall Kit Pet Feeding unit Backnound Many pet owners with mobility problems also live alone. Bending down to pick up animal feeding bowls from the floor can be either very difficult or impossible.
Awkward lifting of bowls from the floor also presents a risk of spillage onto the floor which can be a safety hazard.
Statement of invention
To overcome this, this unit has been designed to assist those pet owners with compromised mobility. The unit consists of a stand containing a choice of either two or three bowls which fit into depressions in a tray. A handle from the tray facilitates safe lifting. An extension handle is also available for pet owners with very limited or no bending mobility.
AdvantaEes Unit designed to overcome difficulties in pet feeding in those owners wiio have compromised mobility and also to promote safety in the home, both from a hygiene perspective and by reducing/removing risk of falls from spillage onto the floor.
Introduction to Drawings
Diagram 1 shows the extension lifting handle that can be used to give safety of lifting with minimum or no bending according to the handle length.
Diagram 2 shows the unit with handle attached. The unit will be constructed of moulded plastic, dishes will fit into depressions on the tray to hold them in place whilst lifting or animal feeding. Tray has one inch depth of sides to contain any spillages and rounded corners to promote easy cleaning. Extension handle can be placed under existing handle for those who need the unit to be higher. Whole unit to be dismantled for dishwasher cleaning Diagram 3 shows a close up of the ball and socket joint which fixes the unit handle to the fray. Aligning the two parts enables the two to be clipped together using the minimal downward pressure, but will hold firmly on lifting the unit
Product Description
* The unit consists of a tray which will contain any food or water spillage, which can be dealt with at a comfortable height when the unit is lifted up. The corners will be rounded for easy cleaning. (diagram 2) * Food/water bowls are completely detachable and it is proposed that extra bowls will be available separately. There will be no channels' under the bowls to restrict arthritic fingers cleaning and drying the bowls.
* There will be a handle which will be attached to the holder containing the bowls.
This handle will be easy grip and is 12" tall to keep the whole unit stable.
(diagram 2) * There will be available an extension handle which can be placed under the unit handle to give extra length when lifting to avoid bending at all. This handle is simply placed without having to slot it in position. The claw' ends prevent slipping and the unit handle has small nibs either end to prevent sideways sliding and dropping the unit.(diagraxnl&2) The handle will attach firmly to the tray with a simple push when the parts are aligned enabling the whole unit to be lifted together. (diagram 3) Back&ound I am recently retired from 49 years of nursing. Roughly 30 of those years were as a District Nursing Sister. Having spent all of my working day hopping in and out of a car countless times, it is no wonder that leading up to retirement I was beginning to notice the first signs of wear and tear on my hip joints.
I now need to have both hips replaced. I am otherwise quite fit and active, but am finding looking after my cat is becoming difficult at feeding times. I thought immediately that a feeding station with a handle might be the answer and set about producing a design.
I am useless at drawing anything and so I ask you to bear with me on the sketches I have produced. Sadly they are the best I can manage. I will provide any thrther information you might need or discuss any points you need clariing.
I make no apologies for the name Tall Kit I am sony to say that my sense of humour leaves a Lot to be desired as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
