Abstract

The barrier, primarily for use at large scale events, comprises a barrier which includes integral seating on one side. The barrier can be stacked with other similar barriers and is preferably provided with a pin mechanism by which adjacent barriers can be connected together, and additional small connecting panels may be provided to enable a number of barriers to be connected around tight contours. The barrier is preferably provided with removable weighted feet (a) which can be attached for extra stability. The barrier may be formed with an open construction to minimise weight and allow for water drainage.

Pedestrian Barrier System -Specification
This invention relates to a portable, temporary Pedestrian Barrier System for high volume public or private events; produced in interconnecting panels, which incorporates temporary seating to one side. The barrier system can be produced in a variation of materials, using various methods, and can be used to display advertising, warnings, logos, etc., according to requirements. The Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating is intended for indoor or outdoor use.
Large scale events can be crowded and typically do not have enough seating provided. The Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating offers a section of attractive temporary seating for use at exhibitions, concerts, shows and events, etc., where normally a standard barrier would have been placed to restrict access to an area not open to the public. If the Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating is placed in a queuing area visitors will be able to rest whilst they wait, which will make the process a more pleasant experience.
Event organisers offering the Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating will demonstrate a high level of customer care and consideration for the needs of visitors. Carefully placed Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating will encourage visitors to rest in a safe and convenient place, rather that obstructing thoroughfares, sitting on the ground and other unpleasant or unsafe options.

The open construction minimises weight and bulk when storing, setting up and transporting, and allows for water drainage.
All optional open grids on main seat would preferably be vertical, to discourage children from climbing on the Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating, lightweight panels can be inserted as an alternative to grids. The grids help to minimise weight and production materials used and allow air and light to reach any underlying grass; preventing yellowing, due to tack of light exposure during longer term use. Units can carry advertising, logos, supplier details, etc. and larger panels can be attached to front or rear surfaces, if suitable fixing points are included at the production stage.
Preferably any materials used for production will be strong and durable, UV stable, weatherproof and washable to ensure longevity easy maintenance of the product. Use of different materials and manufacture techniques will offer variation in appearance, cost, dimensions, weight, assembly time and manufacturing time and process.
The back rest of the Pedestrian Barrier System with Integral Seating will be high enough to deter climbing and enforce the barrier aspect. Cross section dimensions will be optimum to provide necessary weight bearing and stability, according to materials used. Manufacturing dimensions and density of materials will be those to give maximum strength and rigidity, according to materials used; whilst maintaining optimum weight for firm placement on site and safe set up.
The seat depth is adequate for short term resting (eg lunch stops, queues, etc.), but is not over generous to encourage extreme stays. This reduces obstruction of walkways and encourages visitors to resume their participation in the event after they have rested, offering up the same rest opportunity to others.
