Abstract
The accessory, e.g. arm rest, hook, drink holder has a portion 28 which is slideably insertable into a recess 20 formed by a flange 12 of the window slide channel 10 of a sports utility vehicle. The slide channel flange 12 has an inward portion 14 and a downward portion 16 defining the recess 20; the accessory portion 28 has a complementary profile extending around the flange 12. A plurality of accessories can be mounted in series on the slide channel.
Description
AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT
BACKGROUND
This invention relates to automotive equipment and is particularly directed to improved accessories for Land Rover® vehicles and the like. Sport utility vehicles and especially the Defender model manufactured by Land Rover® have gained popularity because they are able to travel over substantially any terrain. Unfortunately, these vehicles usually have extremely spartan interiors that lack many creature comforts that are found in other automobiles, such as arm rests, drink holders and the like.
It has been discovered that the window slide channels of many of these vehicles are formed with a generally L-shaped flange which projects inward and downward from the upper edge of the window slide channel which forms a recess between the flange and the window frame slide channel of the vehicle. Also this flange has a bead or beads extending along the inside of the flange. Applicant has discovered that articles can be made to slideably fit within this recess and can be formed in substantially any desired manner to serve a multitude of functions, such as arm rests, hooks, drink holders and the like.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
The disadvantages of the prior art are overcome with the present invention by providing a plurality of interchangeable accessories to improve the creature comforts and utility of sport utility vehicles.
ADVANTAGES
The advantages of the present invention are preferably attained by providing a plurality of replaceable and interchangeable accessories each having a portion which is slideably insertable into the recess formed by the flange of the window slide channel of a sport utility vehicle.
Accordingly it is an object of the present invention to provide improved sport utility vehicles.
Mother object of the present invention is to provide improved sport utility vehicles having improved creature comforts.
An additional object of the present invention is to provide improved sport utility vehicles having improved creature comforts and enhanced utility.
A further object of the present invention is to provide improved sport utility vehicles having improved creature comforts and enhanced utility having accessories, such as arm rests, hooks, drink holders and the like.
An additional object of the present invention is to provide improved sport utility vehicles having improved creature comforts and enhanced utility having accessories, such as arm rests, hooks, drink holders and the like which are replaceable and interchangeable.
A specific object of the present invention is to provide improved sport utility vehicles having improved creature comforts and enhanced utility having accessories, such as arm rests, hooks, drink holders and the like which are replaceable and interchangeable comprising a plurality of replaceable and interchangeable accessories each having a portion which is slideably insertable into the recess formed by the flange of the window slide channel of a sport utility vehicle.
BRiEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The objects and features of the present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, taken with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing.
FIGURE 1 is a vertical section through the window slide channel of a sport utility vehicle showing an embodiment of the present invention mounted thereon; FIGURE 2 is an isometric view of the arm rest of FIG. 1; FIGURE 3 is an isometric view of a hook embodying the present invention; and FiGURE 4 is an isometric view of a drink holder embodying the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In that form of the present invention chosen for purposes of illustration in FIG. 1, the window slide channel of a sport utility vehicle is shown at 10 having a generally U-shaped flange 12 with a horizontal portion 14 and a downwardly extending portion 16 formed with a bead 18 extending along the inner edge of the downwardly extending portion 16 forming a recess 20 between the downwardly extending portion 16 and the window slide channel 10. A window 22 is slideable within the window slide channel 10 and the window slide channel 10 is mounted on the door 24 of the sports utility vehicle. As seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, an accessory, indicated generally at 26, includes a slide portion 28 which is slideably insertable into the recess 20 and has a flange which supports a suitable utility portion, in this instance, arm rest 32. It will be apparent that the utility portion may be formed to serve many other functions, such as a hook 34, seen in FIG. 3, a drink holder 36, as seen in FiG. 4 or many other accessories. Because the length of the accessory slide portion 28 is relatively short, while the recess 20 extends the entire length of the window slide channel 10, it will be apparent that several of the accessories 32, 34 or 36 may be installed simultaneously. Also, it will be apparent that the accessory slide portions 28 are substantially identical and, hence, the accessories 32, 34 and 36 may be interchanged quickly and easily by simply sliding one out of the recess 20 and inserting the desired replacement accessory.
In use, the user simply inserts the slide portion 28 of the desired accessory 26 into the end of the recess 20 of the window slide channel 10 and slides the accessory 26 along the recess 20 to the desired location. It will be apparent that, if desired, several accessories 26 can be inserted into the recess 20. Thus, the user may have an arm rest, such as arm rest 32 plus a hook, such as hook 34, and a drink holder, such as drink holder 36, all inserted into the same recess 20, but located at different distances along the widow slide channeflO.
Obviously, numerous other accessories may be provided on the flange 30. Also, the size and shape of the accessories 26 may vary as desired, Moreover, numerous other variations and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. Therefore, it should be clearly understood that the forms of the present invention described above and shown in the figures of the accompanying drawing are illustrative only and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
