Abstract
A strap fastener includes: an inner engaging part 100 formed with an engaging slot 103 that extends to one end 110 of the inner engaging part 100 and that is expansible to permit insertion of an engaging end 310 of a strap 300 into the inner engaging part 100; and an outer engaging part 200 sleeved removably onto the inner engaging part 100 for constricting the engaging slot 103 to retain the engaging end 310 in the engaging slot 103.
Description
STRAP FASTENER
The present invention relates to a strap fastener, nore particularly to a strap fastener for engaging an engaging end of a strap.
Strap are widely used in various applications, including tying of cables and wires of electronic apparatuses (e.g., conputer devices, television devices, lighting fixtures, electrical nachines, electronic toys, etc) , securing of fuel conduits of nechanical equipment, fastening of articles, etc. A conventional strap fastener generally includes a buckle attached to one end of the strap for fastening to the other end of the sane. However, during use, the buckle nay not be able to securely fasten the two ends of the strap, which may result in loosening of the strap and nay cause inconvenience.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a strap fastener capable of alleviating the
aforesaid drawbacks of the prior art.
According to the present invention, a strap fastener for engaging an engaging end of a strap, includes: an inner engaging part formed with an engaging slot that extends to one end of the inner engaging part and that is expansible to permit insertion of the engaging end into the inner engaging part; and an outer engaging part sleeved removably onto the inner engaging part for constricting the engaging slot to retain the engaging end in the engaging slot.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent in the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the of the preferred embodiment of a strap fastener according to the present invention; Figure 2 is another perspective view of the strap fastener; and Figure 3 is a partly sectional perspective view of the strap fastener.
Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the preferred embodiment of a strap fastener according to the present invention includes an inner engaging part 100 and an outer engaging part 200. The inner engaging part 100 is formed with an engaging slot 103 that extends to one end of the inner engaging part 100 and that is expansible to permit insertion of an engaging end 310 of a strap 300 into the inner engaging part 100. The outer engaging part 200 is sleeved removably onto the inner engaging part 100 for constricting the engaging slot 103 to retain the engaging end 310 in the engaging slot 103 (i.e., the inner engaging part 100 is received in the outer engaging part 200) The engaging end 310 of the strap 300 is formed with a knot having a diameter larger than those of remaining portions of the strap 300. The inner engaging part 100 has two sidewalls 101 that are resilient, and a connecting wall 102 interconnecting the sidewalls 101 and cooperating therewith to define the engaging slot 103. The outer engaging part 200 presses the sidewalls 101 to move resiliently toward each other when the outer engaging part 200 is sleeved onto the inner engaging part 100. In this embodiment, the sidewalls 101 of the inner engaging part 100 converge toward each other along the direction in which the engaging slot 103 opens, and the engaging slot 103 has an open end 110 (i.e., said one end of the inner engaging part 100) having a width smaller than the diameter of the engaging end 310 (i.e., the knot).
Prior to engaging the inner and outer engaging parts 100, 200, the sidewalls 101 may be forced apart to permit insertion of the engaging end 310 through the open end into the engaging slot 103. Furthermore, in this enbodiment, each of the sidewalls 101 has an inner surface formed with an engaging protrusion 120 that is adjacent to the open end 110 of the engaging slot 103, that is formed with a recess 121 in spatial communication with the open end 110 of the engaging slot 103, and that preferably faces toward the other of the sidewalls 101.
Prior to engaging the outer engaging part 200 with the inner engaging part 100, the engaging end 310 is extended through the open end 110 into the engaging slot 103, where the engaging protrusions 120 cooperate to engage a portion of the strap 300 adjacent to the engaging end 310 and to abut against the engaging end 310, thereby preventing the engaging end 310 from being drawn out of the engaging slot 103. Furthermore, by virtue of the recessed portions 121 of the engaging protrusions 120, the strap 300 may be prevented from being damaged due to shear force.
Each of the sidewalls 101 has an outer surface formed with a first locking protrusion 130 adjacent to the open end 110. The outer engagingpart 200 has an inner surface formed with two second locking protrusions 210 for respectively engaging the first locking protrusions 130 to retain releasably the inner engaging part 100 in the outer engaging part 200.
The outer engaging part 200 has opposite first and second open ends 202, 201. The first open end 202 has a width greater than that of the second open end 201.
The inner engaging part 100 is placed into and removed from the outer engaging part 200 via the first open end 202. In this embodiment, the inner and outer engaging parts 100,200 correspond substantially in shape.
After the engaging end 310 of the strap 300 is extended through the open end 110 into the engaging slot 103 (as depicted in Figure 2) , the outer engaging part may be slid relative to the strap 300 toward the inner engaging part 100 for reieasably engaging the first locking protrusions 130 with the second locking protrusions 210 (as depicted in Figure 3) , respectively.
When the inner and outer engaging parts 100, 200 are engagedwith each other, the open end 110 of the engaging slot 103 corresponds substantially in position to the second open end 201 of the outer engaging part 200.
It is worth noting that engagement between the inner and outer engaging parts 100, 200 reinforces engagement between the inner engaging part 100 and the strap 300.
The inner engaging part 100 may be disengaged from the outer engaging part 200 by applying force onto the sidewalls 101 from the open end 110 of the engaging slot 103 to press the sidewalls 101 toward each other until the first locking protrusions 130 are respectively released fromthe second lockingprotrusions 210. Next, the inner engaging part 100 may be drawn out of the outer engaging part 200 via the first open end 202 of the outer engaging part 200. After the inner engaging part 100 is disengaged from the outer engaging part 200, the sidewalls 101 may be forced apart to permit disengagement of the strap 300 and the inner engaging part 100.
