Abstract

An Interdental Cleaning Device comprises a handle 1,10, with reversible securing / attachment means 2,3,12,13 for Interdental Cleaners (IDCs) located at both longitudinal ends of the device, wherein the longitudinal axis of the handle 1,10 is the same as the longitudinal axis of the first means of reversible attachment 2,12 of an IDC, and the longitudinal axis of the handle 1,10 is at a different angle to the longitudinal axis of the second means of reversible attachment of an IDC 3,13. The device may detachably hold more than one IDC at a time. The device may include a toothbrush or a tongue scraper.

Description

Double Ended Interdental
Description
The Interdental Cleaning Device (hereinafter referred to as the device) is a double-ended instrument comprising a means of handling, with reversible attachment means for Interdental Cleaners (hereinafter referred to as lDCs, such as interdental brushes, interdental sticks, toothpicks, dental floss holders, etc.) located at both longitudinal ends of the device, wherein the longitudinal axis of the handle is the same as the longitudinal axis of the first IDC means of attachment, and the longitudinal axis of the handle is different to the longitudinal axis of the second IDC means of attachment.
The device can detachably hold one or more IDC of the same or varying types. IDCs the device can use include interdental brushes, wire-free interdental brushes, interdental sticks, toothsticks and dental floss holders/frames.
Having multiple IDC-handle configurations allows greater versatility in function, particularly when cleaning interdental spaces between posterior teeth. The IDCs (of current or future style) are designed to be compatible with the IDC attachment heads of the device.
Each of the two IDC attachment means (attachment heads) of the device allows an IDC to be reversibly attached to the device at a variety of different positions.
In some embodiments of the device, the device comprises a handle with a toothbrush head at one longitudinal end of the device and a reversible means of IDC attachment at the other tip end of the device.
In some embodiments of the device, the handle incorporates at least one bend along its length. In some embodiments of the device at least one IDC attachment head and the handle are interconnected by a connecting member.
The lDCs are specially designed and provided to be complimentary to and compatible with the device, but in some embodiments of the device, the device is designed to be compatible with normal IDCs.
In some embodiments the device will be provided with a detachable or integral tongue scraping means. The tongue scraper can be incorporated along the handle, connecting members, and/or on at least one of the DC attachment head, depending upon embodiment.
In some embodiments of the device the longitudinal axis of the first reversibly attached IDC exists at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the handle, whilst the longitudinal axis of the reversibly attached second IDC at the other end of the device exists at an angle other than right angle to the longitudinal axis to the handle of the device.
In some embodiments of the device the longitudinal axis of the first reversibly attached IDC is the same as or is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle, whilst the longitudinal axis of the reversibly attached second IDC at the other end of the device exists at an angle other than right angle to the longitudinal axis to the handle of the device.
Drawiflgs Figure 1 shows a view of an embodiment of the device demonstrating the important parts of the device, which comprise a handle 1, means by which an IDC can be reversibly attached at either longitudinal end of the device at IDC attachment means (IDC attachment head) 2 and 3, and a bend/curve Z. Figure 1(A) shows a view of the device as shown and numbered in Figure 1 wherein the longitudinal axis CD of the handle and the first IDC attachment means 2 is different from the longitudinal axis AB of the second IDC attachment means 3, wherein AB and CD intersect/cross at bend E. Figure 2 shows a view of the device as shown and numbered in Figure 1 and 1(A) with an interdental brush being shown at each of the six possible positions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at which it can be attached to this embodiment of the device (please note that normally only one IDC can be attached to an IDC attachment means at a time).
In Figure 2, IDC attachment means 2 and 3 can (potentially) detachably attach lDCs at positions 7, 8, 9 and 4, 5, 6 respectively (please note that in this embodiment that only one IDC can be detachably attached to each IDC attachment means/head at a time).
Figure 3 shows a view wherein the device is used to detachably attach dental floss holding frames 13 and 14 to IDC attachment heads 11 and 12 respectively.
Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the device wherein the device incorporates a toothbrush head 18 at one end of the device, such that the IDC attachment means/head 17 also allows possible attachment of an IDC in two possible positions 22 and 23 (not at the same time), whilst the second IDC attachment head 16 can detachably attach an IDC at three separate positions.
Figure 5 shows another embodiment of the device wherein handle 24 incorporates two IDC attachment heads 25 and 26 that allow toothpicks to be detachably attached at positions 27, 28, 29 and 30, 31, 32 respectively. The device therefore allows a toothpick to be positioned at five separate positions and angles relative to the longitudinal axis of the handle (although each IDC attachment head will hold just one IDC at a time).
Figure 6 shows another embodiment of the device wherein handle 33 features two bends 36 and 37, with main handle longitudinal axis XV passing through handle 33, and IDC attachment heads 34 and 35.
Figure 7 shows the embodiment shown in Figure 6 wherein 3 possible configurations wherein interdental brushes M, N are attached detachably to the attachment heads 0, p of the device.
