Abstract

The shelter comprises a cover portion 1 and a pair of tracks 5, the cover portion comprises two sides the bottom of each includes a rim 7 fixed in an arc, such that in use the rims are guided along the tracks as the cover portion rotates from an open to closed position (and vice versa). The figure discloses the shelter between the open and closed positions. The track may comprise a channel in which the rim is inserted, or the rim may lie on the track such that the track acts as a rail. The rim and track may include inter-engaging teeth. The shelter can be made from shuttering, stirling or plastic.

Description

Shelter for: Motorcycle, Mobility Scooter and Ride on Lawn Mowers.
Parking vehicles such as a Motorcycle, Mobility Scooter or Ride on Lawn Mower can be heavy and difficult to manoeuvre manually once the driver has stopped and switched off the machine. This invention enables a storage box to be rolled away from the parking area when open and allow the driver space to dismount. The box is then rolled back down totally enclosing the machine, sheltering the contents from the outside elements.
To roll a box shape structure the core element of this invention consists of a Rim and Track located on the two sides of the box. The Rim and Track is made of metal or a similar hard wearing material. The Rim's arc in length would be equal to a straight Track in which the Rim either runs in (i.e. the track is a channel) OR on (i.e. the track is a rail). The arc of the Rims allows the structure to rotate through approximately 90 degrees. The box structure would be either made from Plywood or any type of Shuttering, Stirling or Plastic sheet material and the size of structure would be sufficient to enclose the vehicle. The Rim is fixed to either one OR both faces of each sheet and then both of the sheets are cut to match the arc. The length of the arc is sufficient that it can help balance the box in the closed position and so making it easier to open, the addition of a counter weight can be added if required to further help with the balance. A locking mechanism can be fitted at the front, back or middle of the shelter to lock when closed for security reasons. With this design also a fixed back and side can be used which fits inside the structure and does not move, this ensures the open end of the rolling box structure between the Rims are enclosed when the box is in the closed position, which again would be for added security.
The shelter could have the addition of an electrical powered aid which can be fitted to open and close the shelter automatically this might be especially useful when used for a Mobility Scooter. Finally there can be the addition of a latch which locks the shelter in the open position.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the shelter which is between an open and closed position (Side view).
Figure 2 shows the movement of the shelter between fully open and fully closed position (Side view).
Figure 3 shows an example of the Rim and Track.
Figure4 shows open and closed position only.
ln Figure 1 each side of the box structure 1 has the Rim 7 fixed in an arc and the sides (made of Plywood or similar material) are cut to match this curve. This allows the Rim to roll along the track 5 which is anchored to the ground. In this example the track is within a channel 4 but this could also be a Track similar to a rail line and the guide keeping it on the Track could be part of the Rim. The rolling surface 6 of the Rim can either be smooth or have matching teeth to engage with the track as seen in Figure 3 which shows the position of the Rim 7 and Track 5 when the shelter is open.
n figure 1, to hep bacance the structure for ease of opening and closing an additional counter weight can be used 3. Also shown is the inclusion of the inner side and back 2 which is fixed to the ground. The box structure rolls over these inner sides on opening and when closed forms the back of the enclosure.
This is best seen in Figure 2.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims Figure 4 has the two positions of open and dosed super imposed on each other which shows: a) The box structure moves back, up and away from the area that it covers when closed, this enables a driver of a vehicle the space to dismount without being hindered by the structure.b) When closed the initial pivot point 1 is close to the centre of the structure and so the centre of gravity, as the box opens the pivot point moves backwards in relation to the opening structure ending at 2, which means the structure never goes over the centre of balance. These are the two fundamental benefits to this invention which can be created by fixing a metal (or similar hard wearing material) Rim that runs in a Track on the ground to a box structure that can be made out of Plywood or any type of Shuttering, Stirling or Plastic sheet material.Figure 4 to accompany Claims Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Motor Bike Shelter -Application No. GB11169299 Amendments to claim 1.1. Rolling shelter which consists of two structural parts made of hard wearing material, the first part comprises of two fixed sides and a fixed back which are secured to the ground (2. in Figure 1) the second is the rolling part of the structure with Rims, that run in a Track) attached to the two curved edges of the sides, a roof and end panel, which is wide and high enough to fit over the two fixed sides and fixed back (1. and 6. in Figure 1).
  2. 2. Rolling shelter according to claim 1. in which the rolling part has a curved rim attached on each side allowing the structure to roll through approximately 90 degrees, this ensures enough space for the driver of the vehicle to dismount when open and allow the structure to roll back over the vehicle when closed.
  3. 3. Rolling shelter according to claim 1. in which two channels or tracks run down the outside of each* fixed side, these are also anchored to the ground and allow the rims of the rolling structure to roll down (5&4 Figure 1).
  4. 4. Rolling shelter according to claim 1. in which the rolling part of the structure moves through approximately 90 degrees enclosing the open end of the fixed sides in the closed position this is for added security.S. Rolling shelter according to claim 1. In which a counter weight can be used to help balance the structure for ease of opening and closing (3. Figure 1.)
