Abstract

A charging system for a rechargeable multi-cell power supply 19 (e.g. a lithium ion rechargeable battery) comprises a monitoring arrangement 17 of one or more parameters of different cells, and a charge controller 10 to adjust the charging regime for the cells dependent on the input from the monitoring arrangement, for example using charge balancing. Information concerning the level of charge of the multi-cell power supply is derived by calculating a difference between the amount of charge delivered to the power supply during charging and data relating to charge usage, the level of charge information being rendered to a user. The arrangement is particularly suitable for use with a mobility vehicle.
