Abstract
248,986. Caille, A. A. July 2, 1925. Printed records, apparatus forgiving.-A coin-freed weighing scale provided with mechanism for printing the weight value of the load and embodying a type carrier positioned by the lever mechanism is characterized, by a pivoted base which contains the lever mechanism and is adapted to be swung down by the load, an operating mechanism which is positioned when the base is swung down and up, means for holding the operating mechanism in operative position, and means for releasing the operating mechanism so that it may actuate the printing mechanism. The weight of a person on the platform 22, Fig. 9, operating through a suitable lever system, pulls down a draw rod 23 against the resistance of weighing springs 35, Fig. 4, and, by means of a rack 47, rotates a type disc 45, Fig.1, Dating wheels set by hand are arranged adjacent the type disc. When the person steps on the plattorm, tne base 1, containing the platform lever system, tilts about pivots 7 carried on a supporting trolley 2, until arrested by stops 21; the tilting movement rocks a lever 13 and thereby raises a weight 19 ccnnected by rods 60, 64, Fig. 4, to a main lever 62 pivoted on a pin 91. When the base 1 is depressed, the main lever 62 is moved into the position shown in Fig. 4, and is retained by a pawl 70, an obstructing plate being at the same time removed from the coin slot by mechanism connected to a rod 68. A coin inserted into the slot falls upon the long end of a pivoted lever 75 which is thus caused to displace a trip 79 and allow a link 74 together with a connected lever arm 73, to fall. A roller 86 liberates a catch 88 allowing the right-hand end of a weighted lever 90 to swing up under the influence of its counterweight 95 and carry back the lever arm 73 and link 74 to their original positions. The lever 90 also displaces the pawl 70 so that, when the person steps off the platform, the main lever 62 falls under the influence of the weight 19 and resets the weighted lever 90. When the lever arm 73 swings down, an oppositely-directed lever arm 99, Fig. 1, on the same shaft as the arm 73, swings up and actuates linkage 103, 102, 109, 110, 112 thereby allowing a spring-pressed printing-hammer 104 to descend and make a record of the weight and date upon a ticket. During the return movement of the arm 99 a new ticket is slid out of a magazine 114 thereby pushing the printed ticket off the printing wheels and delivering it to the outside of the machine. If the tickets are exhausted the spring-pressed base 115 of the magazine actuates a lever 137 and moves the obstructing plate across the coin slot. To prevent another coin being inserted if a second person takes the place of the first upon the platform beforethe base 1 has completed its upward movement, that is, before the mechanism has all returned to normal position, the rod 68 is connected to a pivoted cam device which maintains the obstructing plate across the coin slot unless the rod has made a complete upward movement. A pointer 162, Fig. 1, vibrates with the weighing-springs and thus warns the operator not to insert the coin until the vibration ceases.
