Abstract

A tool holder 10 comprising a tube-like structure 11 having a having a pair of slots 13A, 13B adjacent a top open end 12 of the structure. A belt X is received in the slots 13A, 13B. In use, a tool such as a hammer or a chisel, with a head B and shaft A can be inserted into the tube-like structure 11 with the head B engaging the top open end 12 of the structure. The open end 12 of the structure is preferably L-shaped, with a leg 12A and a foot 12B portion. When the tool is placed in the holder, side of the head B engages the leg portion 12A of the L-shaped open end 12, and the bottom of the head B engages the foot portion 12B of the open end 12. The head B of the tool is positioned at the same level as or above the belt X when it is placed in the holder.

Description

Title: Tool Holder The present invention relates to a tool holder.
Many people, such as carpenters or plumbers or other tradesmen, need to carry tools around to perform building tasks. Many persons like to carry these tools in bags or other holders on their person so that tools are immediately to hand. A problem with these known bags and holders is that they flap around as the wearer of them moves which can be uncomfortable. Holders are often worn on the belt but the connection to the belt spaces the tool holder away from the body of the wearer and the tool below the belt causing the tool to flap around.
The invention seeks to provide an improved holder.
According to the present invention there is provided a tool holder comprising a tube-like structure having a having a pair of slots adjacent a top open end of the structure to receive a belt, in use a tool with a head and shaft can inserted into the tube-like structure with the head engaging the top open end of the structure with the head at the same level as or above the belt.
Preferably the open end is L-shaped with a leg and foot portion, and in use the side of the head engages the leg portion and the bottom of the head engages the foot portion. Preferably the slots are formed in the leg portion.
Preferably the L-shaped slot biases the shaft away from the belt slots towards the sleeve wall to hold the toot shaft with a friction fit.
In one embodiment the tube-like structure is a short sleeve with an open top end and an open bottom end, and the tool holder is adapted to receive a hammer with the hammer shaft (handle) passing through the sleeve and the hammer head engaging the L-shaped open end.
In another embodiment the tube-like structure is an elongate sleeve with an open top end and a sealed bottom end, and the tool holder is adapted to receive a chisel or screwdriver with its shaft passing through the sleeve and the head (or handle) engaging the L-shaped open end.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a hammer holder, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a chisel holder.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a tool holder in the form of a hammer holder 10.
Holder 10 comprises a tube-like structure in the form of a short sleeve 11 with a top open end 12 and an open bottom end 13. Top open end 12 is L-shaped with a leg portion 12A and foot portion 12B. A pair of slots 13A,13B are provided in the leg portion 12A adjacent the top open end 12 of the structure to receive a belt "X".
In use a person can insert the handle or shaft "A" of a hammer through the sleeve 11 with the hammer head "B" supported at the open end 12. It will be seen that the side of the head "B" engages with the leg portion 12A and the bottom of the head engages the foot portion 128. In this position the shaft "A" is biased away from the belt slots 13A,13B towards the wall of sleeve wall to hold the hammer tightly with a friction fit in the sleeve Ii so it does not flap around in the sleeve.
It will be seen that the hammer head "B" is at the same level as or above the belt "X". Also, because the belt passes through the sleeve 11, the sleeve 11 is not spaced away from the body of the wearer. This prevents the tool from flapping around relative to the belt and body of the wearer.
Referring now to Figure 2 there is shown a tool holder in the form of a chisel holder 20.
Holder 20 comprises a tube-like structure in the form of an elongate sleeve 21 with a top open end 22 and a sealed bottom end 23. Top open end 22 is L-shaped with a leg portion 22A and foot portion 22B. A pair of slots 23A,23B are provided in the leg portion 22A adjacent the top open end 22 of the structure to receive a belt "X".
In use a person can insert the shaft "C" of a chisel in the sleeve 21 with the chisel head or handle "0" supported at the open end 22. It will be seen that the side of the head or handle "0" engages with the leg portion 22A and the bottom of the head or handle "0" engages the foot portion 22B. In this position the shaft "C" is biased away from the belt slots 23A,239 towards the sleeve wall to hold the chisel tightly with a friction fit in the sleeve 21 so it does not flap around in the sleeve.
It will be seen that the chisel head "C" is at the same level as or above the belt "X". Also, because the belt passes through the sleeve 21, the sleeve 21 is not spaced away from the body of the wearer. This prevents the chisel from flapping around relative to the belt and body of the wearer.
The tool holder may typically be formed as a unitary moulded from plastics.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the holder may be designed for tools other than hammers and chisels, e.g. screwdrivers, or pliers.
Also a baffle may be provided to cover the belt in the sleeve whereby the baffle lies between a tool and the belt so that the belt is not visible.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention. p
