Abstract

A hand held bird dispatcher comprises a shaped yolk 1 which secures the bird's skull and a piston operated percussion head 3 which delivers a fatal blow to the birdâ s skull. The percussion head 3 may be powered either by a coil spring 4 or by a gas from a gas cylinder (D, figure 2).

Description

Description.
This invention is a device for humanely dispatching birds. Current methods include neck dislocation, which is not considered humane and random blows to the head from sticks and other implements.
Current models of poultry dispatcher using explosive caps are cumbersome and slow to reload and do not provide adequate restraint and positioning of the skull.
This invention is a hand held dispatcher combining a tapered yolk 1. and A. to secure the bird's head and a spring or gas activated piston 2.and B., which is connected to a shaped head 3. and C. which delivers a fatal blow to the skull.
The piston B.is driven by gas from a standard 12g. disposable C02. cylinder and is operated through a standard percussion valve E. as used extensively in C02 pistols and rife firearms. The striker which releases the pulse of gas is powered by a spring G., which is cocked and released by a captive slide H. which is button operated I. by thumb pressure. This causes the gas to enter the chamber J. and move the piston seal,K., piston B. and head C. to deliver a fatal blow. The force of the strker F. can be adjusted to alter the force of the blow by screw L. The yolks 1. and A. and the heads 3. and C. are changeable in shape and size to accommodate different species.
Alternatively the piston 3. is driven by a compressed spring 4. which is tensioned by hand rod 7. And released by trigger lever 5. activated by spring button 6.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims.1. A hand held bird dispatcher, comprising a tapering yolk, which secures the bird's head, which is then subjected to a fatal blow from a shaped percussion head.
  2. 2. A bird dispatcher according to claim 1. in which the power for the percussive blow is provided by compressed gas or alternatively by tensioned spring.
  3. 3. A bird dispatcher according to claim I. in which the configuration of the tapered yolk is changeable to accommodate differing sizes and shapes of skull.
  4. 4. A bird dispatcher as drawings 1. and 2.
