Abstract
A tool holder comprises an elongate main section 10 having a longitudinal groove 18 to receive one or more hangers 24. The side edges 14 of the main section are formed with lips 16 extending over the groove to retain each hanger within the groove while allowing it to slide along the groove. The main section can be secured to a wall. The holder may comprise means to secure the tools, preferably in the form of a chain (34, fig. 2) linked to the tip of at least two hangers and preferably extending along the length of the main section and secured in the vicinity of each end. The main section may also include butterfly clamps to grip a tool (32).
Description
TOOL HOLDER
The present invention relates to a tool holder. More especially the invention relates to apparatus enabling garden tools and the like to be hung securely therefrom.
The majority of garden sheds house a substantial number of different gardening tools. The tools are often stored in a haphazard way within the shed and are not always easy to come by when required. A common method of storage is to simply hang certain tools on an, often rusty, nail protruding from a shed wall.
The present invention seeks to provide a tool holder capable of storing any number and type of gardening tool in a neat and efficient manner. Moreover, the invention seeks to provide a tool holder that also provides security against tool theft when the tools hung thereon.
In one aspect there is provided, a tool holder comprising a elongate main section having a longitudinal groove to receive one or more hanging members, the side edges of the main section being formed with lips extending over the groove to retain the or each hook member within the groove whilst allowing the or each hook member to slide along the groove; the main section including means to secure the section against a wall of a building.
Preferably the tool holder also includes means to secure tools hanging from the hanging members against the main section.
Preferably the securement means comprises a chain linked to the tip of at least two hanging members such that the tools hang in a position between the chain and the main section and the chain prevents removal of the tool from the hanging member.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying figures in which Figure 1 is a schematic view of a tool holder constructed in accordance with the present invention; and Figure 2 us a schematic view of the tool holder of figure 1 with a security chain in place.
As can be seen from Figure 1, the invention relates to a tool rack 10 for hanging gardening tools and the like.
The tool rack comprises an elongate main section 10 comprising a single metal section having a base 12 and upstanding side walls 14. The edges of the walls 14 form internally protruding lips 16 such that the section 10 has a groove 18 extending longitudinally along its length.
The base 12 has a number of apertures 20 located at various positions along its length. In use the main section 10 is secured to wall 22 of a storage building, for example a garden shed, so that the main section lies substantially horizontal across the wall 22.
A number of hanging members, in the form of hooks 24 extend from the main section 10. Each hook 24 is secured to a small square base plate 26 which is located within the groove 18 of the main section 10. The base plates 26 are able to slide along the length of the groove 18 but are retained within the groove 18 due to the lips 16 of the side walls 14 of the section 10.
Each base plate 26 can be secured in a specific position along the groove 18 by positioning the plate 26 over the required aperture 18 and securing the plate against the wall 22.
As can be seen in Figure 2, a number of hoop members 28 also extend from the section 10. The hoops 28 are attached to base plates within the groove 18 in a similar manner to the hooks 24. The hoops 28 are located at the tip of a stem which can also be used to hang tools 32. Once all the tools 32 are in place a chain 34 is provided which extends through each hoop 28 across the length of the main section 10. When in place, the chain 34 prevents tools 32 hanging between the chain 32 and main section 10, from being taken off their respective hanging member. A padlock or similar locking means is provided to secure the chain 34 in place.
Other hanging members may be provided, secured in the same way within the groove 18. For example, referring back to Figure 1, the hanging member may be in the form of an elongate metal section 34 that hangs downwardly perpendicular to the main section 10. The metal section 34 includes butterfly clamps 36 at locations along its length that are able to grip the arms of tools such as secateurs or the like.
To hold mallets for example, two hooks 24 may be placed side by side such that the mallet head lies across the hooks 24 allowing the stem to hang down between.
It will be appreciated that the foregoing is merely an example of an embodiment and just some examples of its use. The skilled reader will readily understand that modifications can be made thereto without departing from the true scope of the invention.
