Abstract

A temperature sensing cable is provided for use in a fire alarm or other temperature sensing application. The cable comprises a number of temperature sensors spaced at predetermined intervals. The cable may be a twisted pair cable having both a data and power conductor. Each of the temperature sensors have a unique address such that they may be individually interrogated by a host controller such as a fire panel or monitor. The host controller may poll each sensor to determine the temperature at a specific sensor zone along the cable. The sensing cable may be used within buildings or on board ships.

Addressable Temperature Sensing Cable
Description
A continuous cable with addressable temperature sensors placed at even or odd intervals embedded within the cable or fixed on the cable assembly for sensing the rise of heat in fire alarm or other temperature triggered applications such as HVAC systems.
Each sensor has its own address and is capable of reading temperature and being interrogated from a host controller.
The sensors are wired in a continuous string and placed at typical 1 meter intervals.
However the cable can be made with increased or decreased spacing depending on the specific application.
Power and data is sent over a twisted pair cable, however this could consist of more conductors if required.
As each sensor has a unique address it is possible to have multiple sensors on the same cable therefore allowing the manufacture of cable lengths up to several hundred kilo-meter lengths.
The cable can be cut in between sensors to allow easy termination or expansion.
