Abstract

A fishhook 1 is illuminated by fitting it with a light emitting diode (LED) 1 which is connected to a battery 2 by wires. The light emitting diode 1 and battery power source 2 are encased in silicon or some other transparent, waterproof material 4. The device may also be fitted with a switch (5, figure 2). The LED may produce white light, ultraviolet or infrared; and it may be produced in flashes or pulses. The illuminated lure may also be fitted with a sound emitting device, an electric motor, or a scent releasing facility.

Description

Title: Fishing Hook
Background:
The present invention relates to fishing hooks and more specifically it relates to illuminating fishing hooks to increase the likelihood of catching fish by all types of fishermen.
In poor light conditions and at night it is more difficult for fish to see baited hooks, lures and fly fishing flies. Fish are more likely to bite and be hooked by baited hooks, lures and fly fishing flies that they can see.
Statement of Invention:
To overcome this, the present invention proposes illuminating the fishing hook by attaching a Light Emitting Diode (LED) and battery power source to the fishing hook.
Advantages: Illuminated fishing hooks will increase the visibility of baited hooks, lures and fly fishing flies at night and in poor light conditions and increase the chance of a fish biting and being hooked on the illuminated baited hook, lure or fly fishing fly. This will increase the amount of fish hooked and caught by fishermen of all types.
Introduction to Drawings:
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: * Figure 1 shows a fishing hook with an attached Light Emitting Diode and battery.
* Figure 2 shows a fishing hook with an attached Light Emitting Diode, switch and battery.
Detailed Description:
A Light Emitting Diode (1) is connected to a battery (2) by wires and then attached to a fishing hook (3) (see Figure 1). The Light Emitting Diode and battery power source are encased in silicon or some other transparent, waterproof material (4) (see Figure 1).
To conserve battery energy a switch can be integrated into the invention. In this case a Light Emitting Diode (1) would be connected to a switch (5) and a battery (2) by wires and then attached to a fishing hook (3) (see Figure 2). The Light Emitting Diode, battery cell and switch are encased in silicon or some other transparent, waterproof material (4) (See Figure 2).
All types of fishing hooks, such as singles, doubles and trebles, can be used in the invention.
The invention can use all types and colours of Light Emitting Diodes from ultra-violet, to all colours of the visible spectrum and infrared. The invention can use more than one Light Emitting Diode on a single fishing hook. The invention can utilise flashing or pulsing Light Emitting Diodes by integrating transistors and by other electronic techniques.
The invention can be used to power a Sound Emitting Diode or other sound device by connecting the Sound Emitting Diode or other sound device to the battery. The invention can be used to power an electric motor by connecting an electric motor to the battery. The invention can be used to create movement by applying current from the battery to a material. The invention can also be used to release scent and pheremones.
In time the availability of smaller Light Emitting Diodes and battery cells will allow the manufacture of hooks with the Light Emitting Diodes and batteries as part of the fishing hook itself. This will dispense with the need for the invention to utilise silicon or other transparent, waterproof materials to insulate the battery and Light Emitting Diode.
