Abstract
A device to carry wallboards, sheets of wood, metal or plastic etc. consists of a shaft 5, a carrying platform 3 and one wheel which can be locked in at least two height positions for loading and transporting. Stabilisers 7 may be provided so that the device is free standing for loading.
Description
Wallboard and Sheet Carrier This invention relates to a device for transporting wallboard wood, metal or plastic sheets, when building workers have to move wallbàards across site or into buildings, etc. This operation often involves overcoming obstacles such as steps, doors, stairs and passages which can often require two operatives, or one lifting the whole weight of the board over some distance whilst encountering the said obstacles. Some boards can weigh up to 50kg. This invention, with the aid of its stabilisers (which makes it free standing), enables the operative to position the board etc on the carrier and lip (3) at ground level, then from a position on the main shaft (5) they lift the device and board just a few inches releasing the wheel that remains at ground level, then lock the wheel into position. The board and machine is moved forward with gentle pressure on the board (4) and the side bar (6). These operations are carried out with the operative standing board side (4a). When steps or stairs are encountered, the operative tilts the board back and lifts the device and load over the obstacle. The wheel may be retracted if required.
The advantages of this invention over other similar designs are: * Single, larger wheel. This means less friction in motion over other than smooth ground. The single wheel makes the device slim with no axel required for other wheels.
* Ground level loading. This reduces the effort required to position the board, etc, onto the carrier (3).
* Quick release locking system. This enables the wheel to be moved from the loading to transport position with little effort.
* A lightweight construction, yet strong enough for constant site use.
* Reasonably inexpensive to construct.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and the reference to the accompanying drawings.
All show a view of the invention which is at approximately Sft high (la). It is constructed of wood, metal or plastic and may or may not have a pneumatic tire. There is a quick release mechanism to engage and lock the wheel in at least 2 positions (not visible in the drawing).
Figure 1/4 shows the front view with the wheel (1) in the ground engaging position, it also shows the wheel (1) which is on an axis, it indicates how the wheel moves on the axis (3).
Figure 2/4 shows the rear view with the wheel in the locked down position.
Figure 3/4 shows the platform (3) and how a board of rigid or semi rigid materials is positioned.
Figure 4/4 shows an end view of the invention in the retracted or up position.
The movement of the wheel (up and down) may or may not be spring loaded.
The locking of the wheel may be controlled by a lever or similar, from an accessible position on the shaft (5) or side bar (6), this could be activated by cable or rod.
