Abstract

A carrier for mugs, cups, glasses and other drinking vessels comprises a circular or straight-sided base 05 suspended from three cords 03 with a containing ring 04 mounted on the cords above the base. The base may be metal or rigid plastic. The free ends of the cords are joined 02 to form a loop 01 through which fingers can be passed. The containing ring is preferably the same size as the base and is positioned on the cords such that that it sits at a level near the top of a drinking vessel to be carried, and has a small section removed to allow for the vertical passage of the ring past the obstruction of the handle of the mug, cup or glass. In use, a drinking vessel is placed on the base and is prevented from sliding or falling off by the containing ring. Thus a full open-topped drinking vessel can be transported without the risk of spillage or of it falling out of the carrier. In other embodiments (not illustrated) the carrier is sized for use with dinner plates, pudding bowls or trays.

Description

SPECIFICATION.
This invention relates to a carrier of an open-topped drinking vessel full or partially full of a liquid (epecially a beverage) and is intended to be suspended from the fingers.
Posit 1/ [true story] My sister has her bedroom on the top floor of 3 storey house and frequently has too much to carry (if holding a cup of tea) to make journey upstairs in one go (and is so severely disabled that making repeat trips is a trial). So she was delighted when presented with my CPANGER and can now make the trip in one go as holding the cup does not require that she keeps one hand free from other tasks.
Posit 2/ On a sea-going vessel one is NEVER served mugs of a hot drink more than 2/3 full as so much is spilt on the way from the galley to its destination that starting with full mugs is pointless.
Posit 3/ OAPs and disabled people (or anyone with imperfect muscular control, whether the condition is temporary or permanent) often spill much of a mug of a beverage between kitchen and destination.
Posit 4/ Parent makes a mug of tea-carries it through to other room-stumbles on childs toys strewn over floor-tea spilt-child on floor ends up with 3rd degree burns.
Posit 5/ Father working in garden is made a mug of tea, most of which gets spilt on the way from the kitchen (so he ends up with only half-a-cup).
Posit 6/ Worker in a busy office make a drink for himself (or herself) and transports it through to their work station. It is often the case that the worker carrying the drink is jostled or bumped into and some is spilt (possibly damaging electronic equipment).
Posit 7/ When drinking alcohol the first thing to be affected is the smallest movements of the hands.
The dimensions of the CPANGER can be altered to accommodate pint glasses, eliminating or vastly reducing spillage of beer.
There follows a description of the invention with reference to the drawings attached, Figure 1 Figure 2 and Figure 3 Figure 1 -Perspective View (3D Image -NOT to scale -Just to show what it looks like both loaded and unloaded) Figure 2 -Front Elevation (not shown loaded for clarity) Figure 3 -Plan Elevation (vertical cords not shown for clarity) Key to numbered components 01-Carrying Loop 02-Connector between 01 Carrying Loop and 03b Vertical cords 03a-Vertical cords (between 05-Baseplate and 04-Containing ring) 03b-Vertical cords (between 04-Containing ring and 02-Connector) 04-Containing ring 05-Baseplate 06a-Points of attachment of vertical cords (to 05-Baseplate) 06b-Points of attachment of vertical cords (to 04-Containing ring) 07-Gap wide enough to allow vertical passage of 04-Containing ring all or part way past the handle.
The device consists of a flat disc of flexible or rigid material (05) to which three cords of equal length (03a) are connected at points 06a equally spaced around its' perimeter.
The cords are also connected to a containing ring (04) at points 06b in such a way as to ensure that the containing ring rises to a level near the top of the cup or mug, but NOT above it.
The vertical cords (03a), also of equal length, continue up to meet at the apex (02) where they join the carrying loop (01).
