Abstract

A single layer base, dual walled unit a with removable seal b provides a cavity between the walls to allow for the enclosure of an interchangeable insert. The external wall being of transparent material allows the insert to be visible. The seal stops dirt being trapped within the walls and encloses the insert. The unit is applicable to the manufacture of structured products, for example waste bins, lamp shades, or boxes in which the walls are used to insert imaged or designed materials, eg wallpaper samples, to improve the decorative feel of the object.

Title: Dual wall sealed unit with transparent exterior This invention relates to a dual wall system to hold an insert in, or on, a structured product.

Many structural items are disposed of each year as they no longer match the decor of a room or are purchased specifically to tie in with a particular look. The dual wall holding system allows consumers to buy a structural item that can adapt to their needs aesthetically -hopefully reducing perfectly good products making it to land fill.

To enable a variety of items to adapt visually to their environment the dual wall system allows the user to place an insert between the walls -ensuring their item provides the desired look. This could be, for example, a receptacle inserted with branded material in an office displaying a logo (figure 3); a container holding drawings created by a child (figure 9); or a lampshade in a lounge inserted with matching wallpaper (figure 6). The outer transparent wall allows the insert to show through.

Allowing the items to adapt to their surroundings ensures that there is a longer life-cycle of a product (less landfill) and that items can change with their environments (no need to buy another item that does the same thing -better value for the customer). The ability to tailor everyday products to your own designs and style provides consumers with the ability to customise commonplace commodities.

The dual wall system prefers a transparent exterior wall to allow the design to show through, whilst the interior wall protects it from damage. A preferred seal stops dirt and dust from entering the cavity and also fastens the insert safely inside. The removable seal enables the insert to be easily replaced allowing the owner the ability to adapt their product on demand.

Three examples of the invention will now be described referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows an ordinary receptacle such as a bin.

Figure 3 shows a circular receptacle that uses the system. The receptacle with a transparent external wall (a) enables the user to take a material insert (figure 2) and place it between the walls. A seal (b) is utilised to stop dust or other debris from entering the cavity between the walls and also secures the material in place. The receptacle preferable has a single layer base (c) so that the insert cannot slip out of position. The final sealed unit provides a customised receptacle that meets the needs of the consumer.

Figure 4 demonstrates an ordinary shade such as a lampshade.

Figure 5 shows a piece of wallpaper.

Figure 6 demonstrates how the system could be used for a light fitting. The shade with a transparent external wall (a) enables the user to take a material insert (figure 5) and place it between the walls. A seal (b) is utilised to stop dust from entering the cavity between the walls and also secures the material in place. The final sealed unit provides a bespoke tailored shade.

Figure 7 demonstrates a traditional container.

Figure 8 shows an example of wrapping paper.

Figure 9 shows a container that uses the invention. The container with a transparent outer wall (a) enables the user to place an insert (figure 8) between the walls to change the aesthetics of the object. A seal (b) secures the insert and stops dust /dirt from entering the cavity.
